Second Chance

"Alright guys, go to lunch. We need a break. We aren't going to get shit done just sitting around staring at pictures and files." I told my coworkers. Our latest case was somewhat difficult. Four strippers, murdered and dumped near a river a few towns over. Throats slits. We couldn't find any leads in the case. I was about to start eating when my phone buzzed.

*You free tonight, with Danny?* It was Jacob.

*Yes, what did you have in mind?* I quickly typed back.

Jacob had been a god sent, his practices got out just an hour before Danny got out of school so he usually picked him up. They had been spending the past few weeks together. Jacob and I had gone out on a few dates and we had gotten to know each other better than anyone I'd ever met. We still had yet to tell Danny that Jacob was his Dad and with the stress from work I wasn't ready to have that conversation with Jacob. I knew he wanted to tell him but I just needed to figure out how.

*You, me, lil' man ice skating?*

*I'll tag alone but I am not getting on the ice.*

*We'll see. I'll see you at five.*


Later that day.

I ran inside and quickly got changed into black skinny jeans and a short aqua shirt. I grabbed Jacob hoodie that he'd left here and walked outside to be greeted by two very cute guys sitting on the hood of my SUV.

"Well hello there." I greeted each one with a kiss and told them we should get a move on it. Soon we'd arrived at a big building with no cars around.

"I rented it out." I wanted to smack Jacob but he flashed me a sweet smile and all the anger left me. He really was the sweetest guy.

When we walked through a tunnel and soon were at a huge ice rink. I assumed they used it for practiced because it had a penalty box and benches. Jacob got Danny on skates and after a half an hour Danny was skating perfectly. Maybe it was in his blood. Jacob soon set his sights on me. I shook my head and ran off down the tunnel. He would not put me on that ice. I ran down a hall into I found a room that said GYM. I was confused but I knew it would be perfect to hide in.

It was a gym alright, but it was for gymnastics, maybe this was a multi-use building. The gymnast in me came out and soon I was slipping off the skinny jeans, thankful for wearing my spandex shorts underneath. I spent a good twenty minutes until I fell on my butt after a fail at a cartwheel on the high beam. I fell and realized that all four victims did gymnastics at some point in there lives. I was beaming. I ran back to my bag on the bench and grabbed my phone without the boys noticing me. I ran back to the room to call me second in command and tell him the good news. I spent another fifteen minutes doing gymnastics when I heard clapping and noticed Jacob had joined me. I ran over and hugged him. Sadly I was still not even to his shoulder. He smiled at me and told me Danny was a future hockey players.

"What position do you think he'll play?"

"If I had it my way, goalie but since he'll get your attitude and my size... he'll make a great defense-men."

"Hey Jacob, do me a favor, and tell Danny that your really Batman."

Jacob didn't know that Danny thought Batman was his real Dad so what was to come next would be fun to watch. I took my place on the bench and watch Jacob skate up to Danny. Soon Danny was launching himself at Jacob and a loud "DAD!" Could be heard throughout the building. Jacob just looked over to me and I raised my eyebrow and smiled. Whoops. Jacob just laughed while he realized that he could finally call Danny his son.
