No Sense of Direction 018:

Chapter Eighteen

-Katrina-

I didn’t know what was going on; I was stuck in the bedroom scared that something was going to happen to Milan. He said that there was someone trying to break into the house and the alarm had been going off for about ten minutes now. The security company called and I answered them and they said that they were going to call the police; well the police have yet to show.

I got frustrated and left the room and slowly walked down the stairs. I stood at the bottom of the stairs and listened to see if I could hear any movement, I could, and it sounded like it was coming from the kitchen. I ran to the kitchen and saw that the light was on and the backdoor was opened. I ran over towards the door and saw that Milan was fighting with someone in the backyard.

“Milan!” I yelled and Milan looked at me.

“Kat! Get back!” he yelled and the guy tried to swing at him, but Milan pushed the punch away and got him in the throat.

There was pounding at the front door, and I ran to the door and opened it to see that two police officers were standing there, “Backyard!” I yelled and they ran passed me and headed for the backyard. I ran back to the door and Milan came at me and wrapped his arms around me and pulled me away from the door, “Who was it? What did he want?”

“I don’t know,” he said and then held me tight.

The police officers walked back into the house with the handcuffed man and Milan pushed me behind him to kind of shield me from the man. One of the officers took the man away, while the other stayed here and took our statements.

“My neighbor’s kid called me and told me that he saw the guy, he’d be the one to talk to too,” Milan said and the officer nodded his head.

-Milan-

It was finally over, two hours later and it was finally over, but Kat and I couldn’t fall back to sleep. Too much excitement, if that’s what you wanted to call it. We walked into the living room, and I had the TV on, Kat was sitting next to me, but then I decided that I was going to try and fall back asleep. I laid my head on Kat’s lap and took a deep breath. I laid on my stomach and had my face pointing away from Kat, with my right arm hanging off of her lap. I felt her glide her fingers gently through my hair and she danced her nails across my back, oh yeah, I was out in minutes.

-Zach-

It was game time and I was so excited, Kris Letang had called me and told me that the Penguins were cooking up a plan to get Kat to leave Lucic and get her with Crosby. I didn’t like any guy that went after my sister, I mean, she’s my baby sister, but I knew that Crosby would be better off for her than Lucic.

The boys and I were walking the halls to get to our locker room when I heard someone yell out Kat’s name. I looked ahead of everyone to see that she was walking towards us looking like a complete zombie. I walked up to her and was concerned; she obviously didn’t sleep last night.

“You all right?” I asked confused and outraged because if Lucic did something to her, I’ll kill him.

“No, I’m freaking tired,” she muttered and I looked down at the coffee in my hand and handed it to her.

“You need this more than me,” I said and she nodded her head and muttered a ‘thanks’.

“What happened?” I asked and she sighed.

“Someone tried to break- No, someone did break into Milan’s house last night and I’ve been up all night,” she said and my eyes widened and I heard some of the guys make comments.

“Who would be stupid to break into his house?” I asked and she shrugged her shoulders.

“Some guy who didn’t know it was his house I guess,” she said and I nodded my head.

“You should get some sleep before the game?” I said and she shook her head.

“I have to check over some players before I ‘ok’ them to head out onto the ice today,” she said and I nodded my head.

“Have dinner with me tonight,” I said and she nodded her head.

“Meet me by my truck,” she said and I nodded my head, knowing where it was, because we passed it on the way into the arena.

“I’ll see you later,” I said and kissed her head and then headed towards our locker room, ‘…So Lucic saved my sister; I’ll have to thank him. After I kill him…’

-Katrina-

“It’s looking better Brad, just don’t put too much work onto it,” I said as I finished wrapping Brad Marchand’s ankle, because he sprained it in the last game against the Rangers.

“So am I out of today’s game?” he asked sadly and I nodded my head.

“Sorry sweetie, maybe Monday’s, just rest and keep off of it,” I said and he sighed, “It’s gunna be fine.”

“I hope so,” he said and I helped him off of the table and he winced when he stood up straight and tried to walk normal, but ended up walking with a limp.

“I said stay off of it!” I snapped and he flinched and nodded his head.

The assistant Coach walked in and I told him to help Brad up to the viewing box, because there was no way that he was going onto that ice. There was another knock at my door and I turned to see that Zdeno Chara walked into the room.

“Hey Cap, how’s the shoulder feeling?” I asked because last week when Zdeno slammed Rangers, Rich Nash into the boards, he hurt his shoulder, and I was afraid that he torn something, but luckily he didn’t.

“It’s still sore, but feeling better,” he said and I nodded my head.

“Have you been icing it like I’ve been telling you?” I asked and he nodded his head and I lifted up his shirt to look at it, “Well the bruising has gone down, so that’s good. Can you take your shirt off, please?” he did and then I took his arm and started to move it around, seeing where he was hurting.

“So you and Milan are engaged?” he asked and I nodded my head, “Why do you not look excited?”

I looked at him and then smirked and shook my head, “You were always able to read me like an open book.”

“It’s a skill,” he said and I smirked.

“How’s Tatiana?” I asked.

“She’s good- Hey, don’t try to change the subject!” he smirked and I rolled my eyes.

“Can’t I ask how your wife is doing without being accused of changing the subject?!”

“No,” he laughed and then flinched when I pushed his arm up too high, “Oooh, that was in my side.”

“It’s traveling?” I asked and he looked at me, “Where?”

“Here,” he said while pointing by his armpit.

“What was the pain like? Scale from one to ten, ten being the worst,” I said and he looked at me.

“It felt like an intense pinch,” he said and looked down, “It lasted a second, but I don’t know, maybe a five.”

“Does it hurt now?” I asked as I moved his arm back down and he shook his head, “So it only hurt when I put it up here?” I asked and then moved his arm back to where it was before and he flinched and took a deep breath, “Hmph, that’s a new one for me.”

“So can I play today’s game?” he asked and I looked at him and told him to stand up.

“Do you exercise routine,” I said and then watched as he stretched, but once he got to that arm, he flinched, “Zdeno, I don’t-“

“No, come on, I need to be in this game,” he said and I sighed, “You know your brother is going to start something with Lucic, and I need to be there to make sure that he doesn’t get into anymore trouble. Lucic’s been ejected form so many games, the league won’t take much more.”

I sighed and then shook my head and grabbed for Zdeno’s chart, “Did you ever get that x-ray, like I asked?”

“No, I never had time,” he answered and I sighed.

“Make an appointment for Monday, you’re getting an x-ray,” I said and then marked it down in his chart.

“So can I get the ‘ok’?” he asked and I looked up at him, “Come on, Kat.”

I point the chart down and rubbed my face, “It’s only you right arm?”

“Yes.”

“And it’s only when you put your arm straight into the air?”

“Yes.”

There was a knock on the door and then Coach walked in, “Is our Captain good to go, Katrina?”

I looked at Zdeno to see that he was looking at me, ‘…This might be a bad idea…’ I thought as I sighed and then looked back at Coach, “He’s good to go, just not too much work!”

“All right, good to hear,” he said and then left the office.

“Thanks Kat,” he said and I looked back at him.

“You stick to Milan like glue,” I said while pointing my finger at him and he nodded his head, “You’re right about my brother. He didn’t say anything to me, but I know my brother, and he’s most likely going to try something.”

“All right, keep an eye on Milan.”

“Like glue, Chara!” I yelled as he walked out of the office, “Oh, I’m gunna get screwed for this one.”
