Chapter Nineteen

-Zach-

"Thanks," was all I saw was I was eye to eye with Milan Lucic in the face off ring. He nodded his head, knowing what I was thanking him for, and the ref skated over, "But this doesn't change anything."

Lucic looked up and glared at me, "Why?"

"Because I don't like you," I growled and the ref dropped the puck and I snatched it, skating down the ice with my team.

-Katrina-

It was the Penguins game all over again, but this felt a little worse, this was my brother, my family, that Milan was going to be messing with. I watched as the two boys went back and forth and I looked at Zdeno to see that he was nodding his head towards me and jumping onto the ice. It was the second period and Hurricanes were up by two, and the Bruins were getting vicious. I flinched when Patrice Bergeron threw Jordan Staal into the boards and stole the puck, and skated down the ice, passing it to Zdeno and he scored a goal.

By the end of the game, the boys had stomped off of the ice, losing against the Hurricanes in overtime and making their way to the locker room. I walked past the locker room and could hear Coach yelling at the boys. I sighed and then walked into my office and got started on the paper work for the guys that I saw this morning.

Zdeno had come in after his shower and I looked at his arm again. When I was just about finished, Milan walked in and leaned against the counter.

"You need to keep that shoulder iced for the night, and maybe I'll let you play Monday's game!" I said and he nodded his head, "But no throwing anyone into the boards!"

"All right," he said and the flinched at my glare because in the third period he had thrown my brother into the boards and I knew it was because Zach was about to trip Milan. Zdeno put his shirt back on and then walked out of the office.

"You all right?" I asked and Milan dropped his bag and walked over towards me, "No, come on Milan, not here," I muttered because Milan wrapped his arms around me and start to kiss my neck.

"Let's go home then," he said and then started to stick his hands under my shirt.

"I'm going out to dinner with Zach," I said and he shook his head.

"Come with me," he said and I sighed and turned around in his arms.

"I'm going to see Zach, I'll see you after," I said and tried to get out of his grasp. There was a knock at the door and I looked back to see that Zach was walking in.

"What do you want?" Milan growled and I looked back at him and growled.

"You ready, Kat?" Zach asked I looked back towards him and nodded my head.

"Let me go," I muttered to Milan and his arms dropped, "I'll see you later," I said and then kissed his cheek and walked out of my office with Zach.

"You all right?" he asked as we headed out of the arena.

"He just gets like that when they lose."

"He shouldn't treat you like that," Zach said and I sighed as we walked over towards my truck.

"I know," I said and then got in and started it up.

I took him to the pub that we normally eat at when he comes to town and we talked about everything, except Milan. Once we finished eating, I drove Zach back to his hotel and parked my car. I thought he was just going to get out and that was it, but he turned in his seat to look at me and placed his hand on my knee.

"I don't like him, Kat," Zach said and I nodded my head.

"I know you don't, I know just about everyone doesn't," I said and then took my seatbelt off and turned to look at him.

"Then why are you still with him, Kat? I know you can't possibly like him," Zach said and I sighed.

"I don't know anymore," I said and Zach looked at me, "He scares me sometimes."

"How?"

"On the ice, what he did to Sidney, what he tried to do to you," I said and my brother rubbed my arm, "He's sweet at times, but he's changed. We've been goin' out for a year, and he's not the same guy that I fell for and that scares me."

"Kat, I'm not stupid, I know you've slept together, but has he tried to force-"

"No!" I said and nodded his head.

"But today," he said and I shook my head.

"He's never been like that, other than when they lose a game," I said and he sighed.

"Has he ever hurt you?" he asked and I tried to say 'no', but my brother saw right through me, "He has! Where?" Zach said and pulled me forward.

"Zach stop! Milan didn't mean it, he was frustrated!"

"How long are you going to protect him, Katrina?" he yelled and I flinched when he used my full name, "How long are you going to make excuses for him?"

"Zach, I-"

"Where did he hurt you?"

"He grabbed my wrist really hard, it was just bruised, that's it," I said and then shook my head and held my face.

"Who knew?"

"Sidney," I breathed while not looking at my brother.

"Crosby?" he asked and I nodded my head.

"It was after the game against the Penguins, he was upset with something Sidney had said and the two of them fought. I was mad at Milan because he was ejected from the game and I wanted to see if Sidney was all right, he got mad and grabbed me."

"Do you like Crosby?" Zach asked and I looked up towards him and sighed.

"I don't know," I said and Zach looked at me, "I have something for him, but I don't know what it is."

"What do you mean?"

"I see something in Sidney that I don't see Milan," I said and then rubbed my arm, "Zach."

"Yeah."

"You need to beat the Bruins," I said while looking up towards my brother to see that he was a little surprised, "You can't let them move on."

"Why would-"

"I don't care if you make it to the Championship, but you can't-" I said and started to shake my head and then I felt my brother hug me.

"Why would you say that, Kat?" he asked as I laid my head on my brother's shoulder and felt him rub my back.

I pulled up and looked at Zach and had my hands on his chest, "I want to go home, Zach," I said and he sighed, "I want to go back to Pittsburgh."

-Zach-

I sighed as I walked into my room and saw Jordan look at me, "How was dinner?"

"Ok," I said and then grabbed my phone and called Kris up, he didn't answer, so I left a message and then threw my phone onto the bed.

"What's up?" Jordan asked as he saw me walk around the room frustrated.

"Kat doesn't want to marry Lucic," I said and Jordan looked at me.

"Who why do you look upset? Isn't that what you wanted?" Jordan asked and I nodded my head.

"She's scared," I said and he nodded his head, "She wants us to beat the Bruins so she can go home."

"To Pittsburgh?" Jordan asked and I nodded my head.

I laid back on the bed and sighed because I wanted nothing more than to help my sister out. I heard my phone going off and looked down to see that Kris was texting me asking what was up and saying that he had just finished a late practice and that he was in the locker room with the guys. I replied telling him what Kat had told me and he replied saying that he was going to call me. My phone rang and I answered it hearing Kris telling the guys to quiet down because it was me on the phone.

"So what happened?" Kris asked and I could tell that I was on speaker. I went through the whole conversation with them and then remembered a comment that she said in the truck.

"Kris I'll call you back!" I said quickly and then called her cell phone.

"Zach?" she answered confused because she had just left me.

"What the hell do you mean 'you don't care if we win the championship or not'?!" I yelled and Jordan looked at me.
