No Sense of Direction 066:

Chapter Sixty Six

"So I was thinking," Dana said as she walked into the kitchen and saw me toasting a bagel.

"About what?"

"This summer, we should do something with the horses," she said and I looked at her confused, "Like bring them to a fair so people can look at them, or have like a day camp where kids can ride the horses, anything that can bring some money in, because- I mean we have enough money- but we can't rely on that."

"All right, but the riding camp thing, we only have seven horses, we would only be able to allow six people at a time."

"Get more horses," Dana said and I laughed.

"We only have two stalls left, one of them being occupied by all of their gear," I said and Dana sat on the stool and leaned onto the counter thinking about what we could do.

"You know, we do live in a rich community," she said and I smirked and shook my head, "A lot of little girls wanting ponies for their birthdays."

"What are you getting at?"

"Why don't we open boarding?"

"We don't have room! Two stalls, remember?"

"We build another stable," she said and looked at me intently, "Just hear me out, we have three different paths around this whole property, going through them takes about- what? An hour or so?"

"Yeah, but even if we were to do this," I said and leaned against the counter, "We would need a lot of help. I mean come on, we have seven horses now and I don't think we could handle anymore with more help."

"So we post an ad online," Dana said, "I have a cousin-"

"No! That's quite all right, the last time you had a cousin work for me, he stole from us."

"Yeah, about that-" she said and then rubbed the back of her neck, "My mom called and said that he's living with her."

"Does she know that he robbed you?"

"No, I don't have the heart to tell her," she said and then sighed, "Apparently he sold all of my stuff. Must have, because the kid never had money and then all of a sudden he does."

"How do you know?"

"Ma says he's payin' rent," she said and I nodded my head.

"Ok, so say we were going to do this whole 'boarding' thing, we would at least need- What? Twelve stalls?"

"Try twenty," she said and I sighed.

"We'd need like five employees," I said and she nodded her head, "If we do, do this, we can put up a 'help wanted' poster in the pet stores around here."

"There's an idea!" she said and I sighed.

"Where would we put the stable?"

"Right next to the other one, have like a tunnel that connects or something," she said and I smirked, "Totally redo the whole thing."

"I hope this works," I said and she nodded her head, "I'll get started on some stable designs, you find help, and ask people about boarding around here."

"All right."

"And talk to people about that whole state fair thing, it doesn't sound like a bad idea," I said and Dana smirked and nodded her head.

I had just gotten out of lifting and was heading over towards Kat's place. I smirked when I saw her truck in the driveway and then parked my car behind hers. I walked into the house and heard movement in the kitchen and looked to see Tyler Seguin standing in front of the fridge wearing a sling.

"Hey," I said peaking my head into the room and seeing Tyler jump, "Sorry."

"Geez man, wear a damn bell or something," he growled and I looked at his arm.

"What's goin' on here?" I asked nudging my head towards his arm.

"Had surgery yesterday," he said and I nodded my head, "I might be back for the last few games in the season, Kat and the docs say that I look good."

"Good," I said and looked around the room, "Where's Kat?"

"Stables," he said and I nodded my head and waved to him as I walked towards the back door and walked into the cool March weather.

I walked over towards the stables and opened the door to hear soft country music playing in the office. I walked into the office and saw Kat sitting at her desk with a sketch. I smirked and then leaned on the door and knocked. She looked up and smirked towards me and then leaned back in her chair.

"Hey, what are you doin' here?" she laughed and I looked to see Baxter and Daisy stand from their bed in the corner.

"I came to visit," I said and then walked over towards the chair in front of her desk, "What are you doing?"

"Dana and I are thinking about adding another stable and making more room," she said and I looked at her surprised.

"Wow, wasn't expecting that," I laughed, "Why?"

"Try to make some money, we're going to open up to boarding some local horses," she said and I nodded my head, "Well, that's the plan, who knows if it'll happen."

"You should do it," I said and she smiled and nodded her head.

"How was lifting?"

"Good, my shoulders are sore though."

"Oh, suck it up ya baby!" she laughed and I stuck my tongue out at her.

She giggled and then stood up and walked over towards me and pressed her chest against my back and wrapped her arms around my neck, leaning against. I chuckled and then leaned forward to grab her sketch pad, it was pretty good, not artist material, but it got to the point of what she wanted.

"So you're going to have thirty stalls all together?" I asked and she nodded her head.

"Of course, this is then stable now," she said while pointing out in the drawing where we were, "And then this is the tunnel where we can walk over to the other stable."

"What's this?" I asked as I saw what looked like stairs and then turned the page to see that it looked like living quarters and storage.

"We hired some new help, I said they need to live on the property to watch over the horses," she said and I nodded my head.

"Not another one of Dana's cousins?" I smirked and she shook her head.

"Background checks and everything, the one girl is from Lancaster, the farm she use to work at closed and she's been looking for work," Kat said and I nodded my head, "And then the guy."

"Guy?" I asked and she nodded her head and then rolled her eyes.

"Down boy, he's in his forties," she said and I looked at her strangely, "His wife just died and he wanted to work, he has no family around here, so I offered him a job. He's going to sell his house and live in one of the apartments."

"That's sad," I said and she nodded her head.

"We have two helpers so far, and have four people lined up for boarding," she said and I looked at her shocked, "I know, and it's not even built yet!"

"Where are the horses now?"

"At a boarder about an hour away, the family wanted something closer," Kat said and I looked at her impressed.

"Looks like your horse business is gunna be just fine," I said and Kat smiled and nodded her head, "What are you going to do throughout hockey season?"

"I have help, and hopefully more people by next season," she said and I nodded my head, "I have a contractor coming out next week when we're in Philly, Dana's gunna take care of it."

"This is exciting," I said and she giggled and nodded her head, taking the pad from my hands and then placing it back on the table and climbing onto my lap.

I smirked and then placed my hands on her hips and then moved them down to her thighs and pressed my lips against hers. I felt her fingers dig into my scalp and I groaned when she pushed herself closer towards me.

'...The things this girl does to me...'
