Through the Dark
Step Back
Coldness.
Coldness filled me.
I trudged through the snow, clutching onto my black coat, my only source for warmth.
The wind pushed against me, throwing snow at my face.
I tried going against it, gritting my teeth, with all of my strength, but I couldn't go for so long; there was no rescue in sight.
I fell to my knees and looked up at the gray sky.
Now? Now is the time? Now is the time that I'm...done?
Then, a blurry shadow fell over me, with a warm hand on my shoulder following it.
"You lost?" a guy's voice asked me, warm and nice.
I turned around looking at him with wide eyes. I couldn't see his face cleary because of the snow that was whipping around us and that he was wearing a hood, but I knew that he was a safe guy; I just knew it.
I nodded my head.
"You're with anyone else?"
I shook my head.
"No parents?"
I shook my head again.
"Then come with me. I'll make you mine with my wife." He held out a snow-dusted, gloved hand.
I grabbed it with my frigid hand and he pulled me up.
Then we walked to his house.
And that was my home.
He and his wife became my parents.
Without them, I would've been a body in the snow.
But not everything is so perfect, right?
