Through the Dark

New Hunter

I sauntered into the tree-covered area of the forest, armed with my gun. The morning mist was starting to fade away as it hung low on the leaf-blanketed grass. The sun was peeking out from the leafs of the tree tops, lighting my way through rays of sunshine. The moisture from the morning dew and the shade of the trees kept me cool from the intensifying sun.
It was the next morning and I was out hunting for more food since I was starting to run low on it.
"Orignal ou le chevreuil serait bien," I muttered to myself as I placed my massive hunting gun over my shoulder so that I wouldn't have to carry so much weight. (Moose or deer would be good.)
I then walked upon a circular clearing of no trees; the grass was pure light green with the sun radiating over it. And right in the middle of the circle was a lonely deer, gazing aimlessly.
"Tu es à moi...," I murmured underneath my breath as I pointed my gun skillfully at the head of the deer. (You are mine...)
With my eyebrows down to my eyes, I cocked my gun and pulled the trigger.
The bullet blasted through the air with a ringing sound, but I didn't hear it make contact with the deer. I lowered my gun in confusion as I saw the deer go down to its right side with something sticking out from its body.
"Quoi--?" (What--?)
My sentence was cut off was leafs rustling; I then spotted a slim figure approaching the dead deer with something in her hand: a bow and arrow.
"Quelqu'un d'autre est ici?" (Someone else is here?)
Now this is the first time I've encountered a strange here in the forest.
I stood up straight with the gun to my side, watching as the figure was inspecting the animal she caught. "Dois-je aller là-bas?" I had a scowl on my face since this was the first time I got beaten to an animal. (Should I go over there?)
I then made out the figure trying to lift the deer off from the ground but it seemed like she was having a difficult time doing it.
"Je peux aider pour obtenir un peu de mes cerfs." (I can help out to get some of my deer.)
With a heavy sigh, I came out from the trees and sauntered over to the person, who was looking down at the animal with hands on hips; her weapon was on the grass.
"You need help?" I quickly pointed my gun at the deer.
The person straightened up and gazed up at me, running her fingers through her hair so that I was able to see her face.
I felt my heart skip a beat. Oh my goodness... She had gray, narrow eyes and long, black hair that was blowing in the breeze's direction. Wow... All I could do was just stare at her. This is the first time I've ever saw a woman in the forest and so far, the first time is looking pretty neat.
I then heard a snapping sound emitting close by my ear, which made me jump out from my thoughts. I blinked for a moment, gearing myself back into reality.
"You there?" she asked in a serene voice.
"Uh, yea, yea--" I nodded my head sternly, "I'm here, sorry, I was just caught up with my thoughts--"
"It's fine, it's fine." She gave me a small smile.
My eyes landed on the dead deer, which reminded me of why I was here in the first place. "Oh, do you need help?" I looked back up at her.
"Yes, I do..." She shot me a concerned look. "You already asked me that question."
"Oh right, yea..." I letted out a nervous chuckle while nodding my head up and down. "Um, I can actually take it to my house if you want it to get butchered...to eat it..." I slipped my gun into my hostler so that I wouldn't have to carry it.
She raised her eyebrows. "That'll be very nice! How far is your house though?"
I kneeled down, so that I could get the deer into my arms. "Not that far, it's close by." I stuffed my arms between the animal and the ground and stood up, lifting it up into the air.
She looked very surprised. "Wow...you're strong."
I would've shrugged, but I didn't want to drop the deer. "I've been doing this for the longest time." I then nodded my head towards the direction of my house and began walking towards it. "C'mon, this way."
I heard her coming up from behind me and began walking by my side.
"I see you used a bow and arrow to catch this deer, eh?" I told her as we sauntered through the trees.
"Yea, that's my preferred style of hunting: archery." I sensed her raising her bow in the air.
"I could never get the hang of that sport." I shook my head. "Me and my gun is all I need to get the food I need..." I looked at her quickly to my left. "You live here, in the forest?"
"No!" She letted out some giggles. "I live nearby here though. But never would I live here in the forest--"
"So why did you come here then? Just-just wondering."
"To hunt. I like the sport--I do it once in a while. But just because I come here to hunt doesn't mean I live here."
"Yea, that's true..." I then halted since we were out of the tree zone and back in my house's zone. "This...is where I live."
The lady stepped out in front of me and gazed around the spectacle speechlessly, from the waterfall and lake to the left to the wooden house to the right. "You...live here?"
I continued walking, beginning to pass her and my house. "Yup."
"How?" I heard her rushing up to me. "I mean there's no civilization and-and--"
"I've been living here since I was seven years old-- I'm used to it." I went around the corner of the porch, so now I was walking in the side area of my house.
"You lived here since you were seven?!" She seemed a bit shocked and surprised. "Wow...I never knew there were people still living like this in this day of age!"
"Yup..." I made another turn, entering the back of my house. I then went to the middle of the back wall, which had two barn-style doors. I stuck my elbow out to lift the plank of wood that was keeping the doors locked and letted it swing down. I then pressed my back against the doors, making them turn open.
I walked into the room, which I called the butchering area since it was where I did all my butchering in.
It was a small room with a table and many buckets and coolers scattered around the floor; the only light in there was the sunlight that was coming out from behind me due to the doors being opened.
I placed the deer down on the table with a sigh of relief. I then turned around to face the woman with my hands gripped on the edge of the table.
Her facial expression showed that she was full of awe. "Wow...this is so...amazing."
Now I could finally shrug. "Yea...I never knew that someone would actually be so surprised about his."
"Well, now you know." She gradually began to walk up to me. "My name's Bella."
"Corey." I smiled at her. "You have a beautiful name, Bella."
"Oh, thanks." She looked down at the ground; she then looked back up at me. "So if you lived in the forest when you were seven years old, where did you live before that?"
"Oh..." I gazed up at the ceiling. "...in Montréal..."
"Montréal? That's far away! How did you end up here in another country?" She sounded shocked.
"It's a long story." I looked down at her, then behind me, seeing the deer. "Oh right, I need to do your deer. I'll get on that." I then walked to the right side of the room to get the butchering utensils.

Yeah! You should totally do it!! :) I like The Flash alt. intro ideas and I think this one would be an amazing idea. Granted you can wait until something is finished first. Haha. :)

Yay! :) Thank you, thank you! Yes, Kane does have pyrokinesis because this story is part of the series Something derived from, so yea... If you want to see it from an original view point, Kane is Cole from Something in this story ;) But since this is on the hockeyfanfic site, I just put it with the hockey players' actual names. But when this goes into Wattpad, Kane's name would be changed to Cole! :D You get? ;)
