*Alex's POV*

I stood in the middle of the hallway and watched as all the players filed into the hospital.

I felt myself smile knowing how happy the kids would be to see them.

I felt a tug at my leg and looked down to see the familiar head of blonde hair looking up at me and hugging my leg tightly.

"Hey Thomas." I smiled at the little boy kneeling down so I was the same height as him ruffling his hair.

"Are they here yet?" He asked excitedly his eyes lighting up.

"Oui." I smiled as he hugged me tightly making me laugh.

"C'mon let's go see them." I said holding on to his hand as he bounced happily beside me.

We bounded around the corner before I collided with someone coming to a full stop.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry." A voice said grabbing my arm and catching me before I fell.

"It's okay, I wasn't watching where I was going." I said looking up into the startling green eyes of the stranger that I had collided with.

"Hi" He breathed out.

"Hello." I replied.

"Brendan." He smiled sticking his hand out for me to shake. "Gallagher."

"Alex." I said returning the smile shaking his hand.

We stood there staring at eachother before Brendan finally looked away noticing the excited little boy beside me.

"Hey little guy what's your name." He asked kneeling down and ruffling Thomas's hair.

He looked up at me with wide eyes as I laughed and nodded my head.

"Tell him." I said letting go of his hand.

"I'm Thomas!" He announced wrapping his arms around Brendan.

It seemed to catch him off gaurd but he smiled hugging the little boy back.

I left the two together then wandered off to help some of the players navigate their way around the hospital.

A little while later I bumped into Brendan again.

"Twice in one day." He smiled "If I didn't know better I'd say you were following me."

"On the contrary I think it would make more sense to say that your the one following me." I retorted smiling mischeviously.

"Fair enough." He said holding his hands up in defeat.

"Wait, where's Thomas?" I asked when I noticed the absence of the little boy.

"Oh he's downstairs with P.K and Carey." He said.

"Who?"

"Sorry they're my teammates." He explained.

"Oh alright." I breathed out relieved. "Sorry I just get really protective of the little guy."

"You guys close?"

"Yeah." I smiled "Really close."

"Is he uh, is he yours?" Brendan asked nervously.

"Mine?" I asked my eyes nearly bulging out "No, oh god no he's just been here at the hospital a while." I said.

"Oh sorry." He said sheepishly "I just thought that-"

"I'm only 21, how old did you think I was?"

"Oh I don't know 29 maybe pushing 30." He joked as I shoved him lightly.

"So how long has Thomas been here?" He asked changing the subject.

"Three years."

"How long have you been working here?"

"Two years."

"Do you know what his uh his..."

"Brain tumour." I said answering his question before he had even asked it. "He doesn't have much time left."

"I'm so sorry." He apologized.

"It's okay, I mean it's expected." I said "But that's the hardest part of the job for me I think."

"You get close and sometimes you get attatched then when the time comes that you have to let them go...it's hard, it's really hard." I said as we wandered around the hospital aimlessly.

"Do you ever wish you hadn't? Gotten attatched I mean."

"Like I said it's hard." I started "But the time I've spent with him, with all these kids really. I wouldn't trade it for the world. And it kinda puts things into perspective, and reminds us that were not going to be here forever."

"Yeah but these kids shouldn't have to let go of it all so soon." He said shaking his head sadly.

"Your right." I agreed "They should be able to live long happy lives. But maybe someone up top has something else planned for them. Something bigger, better." I finished looking back at Brendan.

"That's an incredible way of looking at it." He said looking into my eyes.

"Hey Gally!" We heard someone call out as our heads turned in the direction of the voice. "We gotta go C'mon."

"I'll be right there!" Brendan called back before looking back at me.

"It was great to meet you." He said leaning in tentativley to give me a hug.

"It was nice meeting you to." I said hugging him back quickly pulling away.

"I should probably get going." He said stuffing his hands into his pockets making no move to walk away.

"You probably should."

"Right." He said laughing nervously making his way down the hall. "Bye."

"Bye." I laughed waving to him as he turned the corner out of view.

Hey guys! So this is the first chapter to kind of get you introduced to SOME of the characters in the story and basically the starting point for Brendan and Alex.
