Say You Like Me

Eight

"Tell me again how he asked you?" I asked my friend, Brenna to re-tell me the story about how little Jeff Skinner asked her to prom.

"He came by my house the other day and started throwing little pebbles at my window. I went to see what it was and Jeff was standing in my front yard holding a sign that said 'Prom?'" She blushed as so repeated this to me.

"Aww so cute!" I squealed, earning disapproving looks from the employees at the dress shop we were currently at. I searched through another rack of dresses, trying to find the perfect one.

"Has Gabe asked you yet?" Brenna asked hopefully.

"No, he hasn't even brought prom up." I told her truthfully. I was a little disappointed that Gabe hadn't said anything; prom was only a week away

"What about this one?" We simultaneously asked while holding up a dress. We shared a look and bolted to the dressing rooms to try them on.

"On the count of three," I told Brenna in the adjacent dressing room, "One...two..three!"

We opened the doors and walked out in front of the mirrors. The corners of my mouth turned upward in a smile. I stood speechless as I looked at each of our dresses.

"They're perfect." Brenna concluded after a moment of admiration. I nodded in agreement. My dress was strapless and mint green with sequins on the top while Brenna's was dark blue and strapless that was tight at the top but then flowed out. We quickly changed and brought our dresses to the checkout.

"I think we did fantastic for last minute shopping." I said as we walked out of the store.

"Agreed."

The next few days of school went by quickly. We were nearing the end of my senior year of high school and I couldn't contain my excitement. It was Tuesday, prom was Thursday, and graduation was the following Monday and I would be done with high school forever. I walked out of my AP biology class to find Jeff waiting for me.

"Hey Jeff! What are you doing?" I asked curiously.

He shrugged his shoulders. "I just thought we'd walk out together."

I nodded and we continued to venture through the school to the student parking lot. "Brenna told me about your prom proposal. It was very romantic." I nudged him with me shoulder.

"Thanks, I really like her." He confessed, blushing.

I giggled and we pushed open the doors to the parking lot. I noticed Jeff quickly text someone then put away his phone nonchalantly. I laughed again and continued to walk to me car. "Do you need a ride or something?" I asked Jeff because we passed his car. He shook his head. "Okay." I breathed out and walked through a row of cars only to stop short right in front of mine. My jaw dropped and stood there, speechless. I looked to the left of my car to see Gabe standing there with a rose and a hopeful look on his face. He had taken sticky notes and spelled out "PROM?" on my windshield. A huge grin broke out on my face and I walked as quickly as I could over to Gabe. I wrapped my arms around him and kissed him as he lifted me up and spun me around. When he put me down I stared up into his clear blue eyes. "I was wondering when you were going to ask." I confessed, biting my lip.

"So I'll take that as a yes?" He asked unsurely. I laughed and shook my head. Like I wouldn't accept to go to prom with my boyfriend, or Gabe for that matter. I kissed him again and laced my fingers through his hair. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him.

Someone cleared their throat and we broke apart. I turned and saw Jeff shaking his head. "Well congratulations you two. I'm going to go now before you two end up having sex in the parking lot."

"Bye Jeff!" Gabe and I said in unison. We laughed and I started pulling the sticky notes off my windshield.

"So we're not going to have sex in the parking lot? Gabe asked with a gleam of hope in his eyes

I rolled my eyes. "No you horny teenager." We laughed and I put my backpack in my car.

"Oh! I almost forgot." Gabe picked up the rose he had dropped earlier and handed it to me. "For you, my love."

"Why thank you." I said graciously and pulled him in for another kiss. "You can be quite the romantic, Gabe." I observed.

"Only for you babe." He kissed me again but I remembered Jeff's implied PDA warning and didn't let it get too far.
