Reunited

One

Cole Harbour's most eligible bachelor is now taken, and we're not just talking dating. He and his longtime girlfriend stepped out yesterday after lunch, and we couldn't help but notice the HUGE rock on Sidney's girlfriends left ring finger.

"Holy Shit!" Shea said hearing her friend read the newspaper article out loud. Kelsey and Sarah looked over at their friend, hoping and praying that she wouldn't have an emotional breakdown.

Kelsey finally broke the silence, "Sweetheart I know this is a hug deal. Are you gonna be okay?"

Shea looked at her friends confused before adding, "Oh no guys I wasn't saying holy shit for that I saying it because I didn't know people still read newspaper nowadays…"

Shea busted out laughing as her friends stared her down. She knew that Sidney had been seeing someone for a while now and she didn't have any hold over him. Not since he left for the NHL and never came back. They were friends, Shea didn't even know if she could call them that anymore. Shea had returned home for the summer after graduating college. She was looking for work, but hoped to God that she wouldn't find any in her hometown. She didn't even want to come back to Cole Harbour, but her mom had pulled the "the family misses you darling!" so here she was laying on her friends couch, reading newspapers about famous ex-bestfriends. She didn't imagine her life would be this fun after college.

"So do you guys even talk anymore?" Sarah asked wanting to hear the stories had never been able to tell since Sidney had left town. Shea looked at her hands. She still had his number, hoping one night he would text her and just say I miss talking to you, but every morning she would wake up with no texts from the only person she wanted texts from.

"Not really, but it's understandable. I wouldn't expect him to talk to some random girl from his hometown who he probably hasn't thought about since the day he left." Shea's friends looked her giving looks of sympathy. Everyone had thought that Sidney would come back and take Shea with him, and everyone waited but he never came. The whole town had thought that Sidney and Shea would become Mr. and Mrs. Crosby but yet here was this girl on the front page of the newspaper with the huge diamond on her finger, and it wasn't Shea.

He hadn't come back.

-------

Sunday mass was especially crowded today. It seemed as if someone big was gonna stroll through the door. Like for some odd reason Coldplay's bus had broken down in Canada, or Justin Timberlake had fallen in love with the way Canadians always say "eh" at the end of their sentences.

Shea had seen the Crosby's when she first walked in. Some things never change and Shea being close with Sidney's family was one of them. She found herself ending up over at their house multiple times since she had come home. Their families had always been close, that was part of the reason why Shea and Sidney had become friends.

"Does mass seem different today?" Kelsey said looking at her friends, then turning her head to look around the room.

"Yeah but maybe everybody heard hottie Shea had come home for the summer and wanted to get a glimpse of her since she hasn't been home in four years," Sarah said looking at all the eye candy in suits who were looking at their row. Shea stifled a laugh knowing that that was not the reason why all these people were here today.

Shea noticed the room had gone eerily silent. She looked up from her lap to see all eyes turned the open doors of the church. Most jaws were dropped. Shea could see some high school girls were primping their hair and putting on lip gloss, looking more skanky than usual. Shea could see a figure standing in the open doors, the sun was casting a shadow on the person, but she could tell it was a man, by the nicely tailored suit. Some guys from her high school had gotten up and hugged the guy before offering him a seat.

It was when he walked out of the shadows to sit down that Shea finally caught a glimpse of the porcelain like face she had come to love. Before he sat down though, he looked around the room looking for what Shea thought was his family, but when his eyes finally landed on hers it was then that she knew Sidney had been looking for her.

She quickly turned her head towards the front, whispers being spread throughout the room.

Why is he home?

Did he come back for someone?

Shea?

---------

Shea couldn't remember mass ending. She honestly couldn't remember it even starting, especially when she could practically feel Sidney's eyes boring into the back of her head, from five benches away.

Kelsey and Sarah had noticed that Shea had become antsy so the moment church ended they were grabbing her hand and whisking her away out of the church. They were already in Kelsey's car by the time Shea could see Sidney coming out of the church. He looked different but it was an amazing different. He had gotten bulkier, his hair was freshly cut and his face wasn't sporting any facial hair. For the second time that day Sidney and Shea had made contact, but this time Shea didn't look away. She stared right back at Sidney, hoping he could see her tears through the window.

---------

Sidney hadn't expected all the heads in the church to turn when he walked up the steps and stood in the door. He was half hoping he would see Shea and she would stand up and yell at him to come sit next to her, but instead it was some guys he had known in high school that had offered him a seat. But while he was sitting down he could see the brown eyes that had read him like a book when they were in high school looking at him. She was wearing a white dress, her reddish-brown hair half up, half down in slight waves. She hadn't changed since he last saw her four years ago, yet something about her seemed so different.

Maybe it was the fact that she couldn't even look at him she was so disgusted.

He didn't know how well this was gonna go over when he had booked the flight to Nova Scotia. He didn't exactly know if Shea would come home from college this summer, she hadn't every other summer. Yet there she was just five seats ahead of him.

When the mass was over, Shea's friends had rushed her out of the church, and for good reason. If he was Shea she wouldn't want to see him. Especially since he was all over the headlines with his new fiancee. He understood.

Yet it was still like a knife to the heart when he saw the tears running down Shea's beautifully freckled face. The face that he had fallen in love with and left four years ago.

The face he was pretty sure he was still in love with.
