All of me

After about a week, my knee was doing much better. It was still bruised but I was able to walk again which was a plus. As for the situation with Reilly, I just let it go. I brought it up once here and there, but the conversation died soon after so I wasn't going to push it further. If he wanted to talk, I was all ears. But recently he seemed like his old self again which was a relief, or so I thought.

'Hey! What are you doing tonight?' Katie texts me as I'm sitting in class.

'Hey you! Nothing really...bored in class. Haha! I don't have anything planned, why what's up?'

'Well I was thinking, since the boys have late practice I though I'd be fun if you and Reilly came over Adam's and had dinner tonight. Its going to be pouring tonight so what else is there to do. Please say you'll come!'

'I don't know what Reilly's doing but I'm sure he'll come. I have work after class until 8 but after that I'll come by! Want me to pick up anything?'

'Nope! I think I got everything! See you later love!'

'Ok! See ya!'

I had a slight break between classes and decided to text Reilly. He hadn't been texting me much today. I figured he was busy.

'Hey babe! So Adam and Katie want us to come over for dinner at his place tonight. I figured after practice you can just come with Adam and I'll just meet you there?'

'Sure' Sure?! That’ s it?

'Are you okay Reilly?'

'Yeah, I'm fine' It was like pulling teeth.

'Ok I'll see you there?'

'Yeah'

What is going on? I ignored it and then went to work. Work dragged. I couldn't stop thinking about him. What was wrong with him? Maybe he's having a bad day?

'On my way!' I texted Katie after I got into the car. The boys should be there by then. I get out of the car and run towards the door. I was soaked. When I got to the apt, I dropped my stuff and headed to the bathroom.

‘Katie?’

‘I’m in the kitchen!’ I heard katie shout from the other room.

‘I’m just going to go to the bathroom to clean up!’

‘Okay!’ I put my hair down so it would air dry. Then I head towards the kitchen.

'This looks amazing! You're getting so good!' As I wipe my ‘tear’.

'Haha! Learned from the best!' As she gently bumps me.

'You're too nice!'

A few minutes later, Adam knocks and I go to open the door. No Reilly.

'Emma! How are you?' He gives me a hug.

'Oh you know the usual haha how was practice?'

'It wasn't that bad. Its pouring out!' as he walked over to Katie and gave her a kiss.

‘Did you knock on your own door?’ Katie asks as she starts laughing.

‘My keys are somewhere in my bag and I didn’t feel like digging in there’ he says while laughing.

‘Okay, That makes sense’ Katie says as she heads towards the kitchen.

'Reilly didn't come with you?' I ask.

'Uh no, he said he was staying a little later tonight, he should be here soon though. Have you talked to him today? He seemed a little off'

'Yeah I've been texting him but he has been really short...'

'I'm sure he's fine, probably just having a rough day' he puts his hand on my shoulder.

'Yeah probably...' I force a smile.

We get the table all set up and we hear the door open, and Reilly walks in. He had a bottle of wine in a brown paper bag.

'There he is!' Katie says.

'Here you go Katie. Sorry I’m a little late' as he hands her the wine.

'Thanks Reilly! No worries, come on in!'

He walk up to me and gives me a kiss on the cheek.

'Hi babe'

'Hey' I reply.

We all start sitting down and Adam walk up to him and puts his hand on his shoulder and whispered 'You good Smitty?'

'Yeah why wouldn't I be?' He quickly responds. I looked up and we quickly make eye contact and I look away. This was getting awkward.

'This looks delicious Katie' Reilly says.

'Aww thanks Reilly! Dig in guys! Don't be shy!'

Throughout dinner, we started sharing stories about our old high school days,

'Oh the good ol' days! Do you guys miss high school?' Adam asks.

'I sure do!' Katie said.

'Eh, I don't know if I do. Everyone makes such a big deal about it and it's not that great.' I reply.

'We were mostly in the same classes but Emma focused more of the math and science portions and I was more of a English and history junkie.'

'Did you do drama as well Emma?' Adam asks

'Me? Drama? Not my thing whatsoever. I have stage fright.'

‘No?! Shocker right there.’ Adam said sarcastically.

'She would probably faint.' Katie adds.

'Yep. HA! Probably!' I started laughing.

'She was more athletic. She played mostly basketball and volleyball.'

'Basketball? Really?'

'Yes. A forward. Probably because I was one of the tallest people on the team and I'm not really that tall so there's that haha'

'Did you know that Reilly?' Adam faces towards him.

'Yeah my girl's a little ballah!' He starts laughing.

He speaks!

‘Little?’ I look at him with my eye brow raised.

He looks over and winks. I start blushing.

'Okay! Do you know what this means? Two on two baby!' Adam says.

'Oh no' I said as I put my hands on my face and shake my head. Katie can't keep her mouth shut.

'Oh yes!' Reilly says as he high fives Adam.

'I wasn't even that good! And it was years ago.'

'And we are?! Okay how do we want to do this? Guys vs. girls or couples?' Adam was really excited for this.

'I want to win so guys vs girls.' Katie said. Winking at me.

'Okay. Fine. But both of you are going down!' Adam says.

Reilly smile quickly fades.

Throughout the whole night Reilly was still quiet. He would make comments here and there but didn't really talk. He was upset and I figured I could at least try to talk to him about it. We finished dinner and we all helped cleaned up.

'Reilly? Can I talk to you for a sec?'

'Uh yeah, sure' We walked into Adam's bedroom.

I close the door.

'Reilly, what's wrong? I've noticed you're upset. Did something happen?'

'No I'm fine, I’m just having a bad day. That's all.'

No emotion on his face. No eye contact. Nothing.

'That's what people say when they aren't okay. Babe, You can tell me' he looks away.

'I said I'm fine!' his voice a little harsher as his eyes meet mine.

'Okay, you may have fooled everyone here but not me, so if you don't wanna talk, fine. If you're that miserable you didn't have come here tonight, you could've just said no!'

He didn't say anything. I put my head down in defeat. I take a deep breathe.

'Babe, How can I help you if you won't tell me what's wrong?!' I was starting to get frustrated.

'I don't need your help okay?! I said I'm just having a bad day! Let it go!'

I was taken back by his tone. I’m done.

'Forget I ever said anything' Tears started forming in my eyes, I couldn't do this anymore.

'Emma, I'm so-'

As I'm about to walk out of the room, he grabbed my arm.

'Don't touch me!' he lets go immediately and I head towards the living room. I heard him call my name from the room. I was done with all of this crap.

'Emma, Is everything okay?'

'Everything is fine. I have to run, I'm sorry. Thanks again for dinner guys. Katie I'll see you at home.' I said trying to keep everything in. I'm sure they heard everything. I just needed to get out of there.

I rush back to my car, my knee was still recovering so I couldn't go down the stairs as fast as I wanted to without having sharp pains. I start driving home with tears coming down my face. I hated leaving him like this. But why was he being so odd. I didn't get it.

I get home. I head towards my room and change into my Pj’s. I head towards the bathroom. I blow dry my hair because it was soaked. I look in the mirror and my whole face is puffy. Typical. My eyes red from crying, my nose red from constantly blowing. I was a mess. I take a few deep breathes and as I come out of the bathroom, thats when I hear the doorbell ring. I walk over to see who it was.

Reilly.

Breathe I told myself as I slowly opened the door.
