Jeff dismounted his horse and walked it back into the stable, he noticed Faelyn lying on the haystacks in the corner, he walked over and gently touched her shoulder. She jumped up and looked at him; she was startled for a second but relaxed once she noticed it was Jeff who had woke her up.
“What are you doing here Faelyn?” Jeff asked as he sat down on the haystack beside her.
She rubbed her drowsy eyes as she sat up, “I was waiting for you, I must have fallen asleep,” She fixed her hair picking the pieces of hay out of it, “It’s been hours, where were you? I tried looking for you last night but you left.”
She nervously chewed on her lip, she tossed and turned last night in bed not being able to forget about the way Jeff had looked at her. She desperately wanted to tell him how she was being forced to marry Alex that the feelings she had for Jeff would always come before the ones she had for Alex.
“I had to go back to Neilath; Sidney had a family emergency,” Jeff explained, “If you’ll excuse me I have to go speak to my sister.” He got up from the haystack and waited for her approval to let him leave.
“Jeff,” Faelyn sighed, “I don’t want to marry Alex, I like you. I want to be with you, but my father would never allow it. I wish things could be different, that somehow we could be together.” She admitted.
“Faelyn, I’m sorry if I made it seem like I was interested in you, but I work for your father, this is strictly business. I don’t feel the same way.” Jeff spoke.
Faelyn was surprised by his words, she got up from the haystack and walked past him, she stopped before leaving the stable and took a few moments to compose herself. She had just admitted she liked her stable boy, a peasant, someone everyone in her kingdom looked down upon, and he didn’t feel the same way.
She turned around to face him, she faked a smile showing him she wasn’t hurt by his words, “I must go, I have a wedding to plan.” She turned her back and walked out of the stable and towards her palace.
Jeff sat down on the haystack again and buried his face in his hands, he thought about what he had just done. He lied to the girl he loved, the girl who might have loved him in return. He knew he had to do it, she would be marrying Alex soon, he knew Faelyn could never pick him over Alex; he knew her father would never let her.

Jonathan burst through the door of Kamila’s bedroom, he eyed her carefully as she folded their clothes, Kamila was startled at his sudden entrance into her room. She greeted him and continued her job, he walked over slowly and grabbed the shirt from her hands that she was folding, he stripped out of his shirt and put the new one on.
“I’m going to need you to be honest with me Kamila,” Jonathan spoke, Kamila’s heart raced; Jonathan never spoke to her other than when he was giving her orders. ”What’s going on with you and Kane?”
Kamila froze, “Pardon?” She asked, she pretended like she had no idea what he was talking about, a part of her didn’t, she was confused by what he meant.
“I’m not a fool, I seen you two together last night. He also came by earlier to ask for my permission to take my niece out on a date, at first I was confused, but then he mentioned your name and I knew exactly who he was talking about.” He explained
“Sir, I can explain!” Kamila spoke frantically, she was ready to explain the whole situation to him but he cut her off before she had the chance.
“Don’t bother, I spoke to Jules last night and she told me about how Patrick had changed over the past few days, he was really looking forward to coming to Fae’s birthday ball. I couldn’t understand what he was so eager about but now it all makes sense. The Gardiner’s aren’t too thrilled with my relationship with Scarlett, but now that my darling niece is making their son happy, they will be willing to accept it.” Jon explained.
Kamila nodded understanding, Jonathan was only approving of what was going on between her and Patrick because it benefited himself. He was willing to go along with Kamila’s scheme just so he could be with Scarlett and have peace between the two kingdoms.
“You should start getting ready; Patrick will be here in an hour to pick you up. Make sure you look nice, you’re a Toews after all.” Jon grinned before leaving her room.
“I’m a Skinner.” Kamila muttered to herself, she sighed before putting away the folded clothes and making her way over to Faelyn’s room.
She walked the long empty corridors trying to find one of the girls; she knocked on Faelyn’s bedroom door, but was told to go away. Kamila didn’t take it personally; Jeff briefly explained what happened with Faelyn that morning, and Kamila understood she needed some time to herself.
Kamila knocked on Arabella’s bedroom door hoping she would answer it and help her with her dilemma, her door swung open and Kamila walked in. Arabella sat on her bed as Kamila explained what happened with Jonathan.
“My father is so selfish, first he forces Fae to marry Alex and now this,” She shook her head, “You know he chose Fae to marry Alex because he knew I’d never do it, he knows I will rebel, and I’ll eventually get my way.”
“What am I suppose to do?” Kamila asked, she never thought about this plan clearly, how long could she lie to Patrick before he found out the truth.
“Go out with him, have a good time. Be Kamila Skinner, not Kamila Toews, the less you talk about your family the less you lie to him. Just go out and have fun, enjoy the time you have with him, this will work out.” Arabella reassured.
“Thank you Air, I have to get ready but before I go there’s something you should know about Sidney.” Kamila told.
“What is it?” Arabella asked nervously.
“King Malkin is his father.”
