Royals

Vivian paced around her home as she waited for her kids to get back from the royal party; she never thought she’d be waiting up for this very reason. She tapped her foot anxiously, she hated when her children were away from her even though they were both old enough to make their own decisions.
“Kassidy?” A familiar voice called out, Vivian jumped as she heard his voice, she’d recognize him anywhere even if it had been decades since she last saw him.
She slowly turned around dreading the moment she locked eyes with him again, she knew he’d end up finding out and she’d have to deal with this, she just didn’t think it’d be now. She smiled when she saw him, he looked different from the last time she saw him, they were only teenagers back then.
“My daughter, I’m assuming you met her, why else would you be here, right?” Vivian spoke calmly.
She wanted to yell at him for leaving her and showing up randomly years later, he left her on her own to fend for herself because he was too important to let her ruin his future. He had no idea how hard it was for her to leave and start a life where no one knew her.
Evgeni nodded his head, “Mine?” He asked.
“Yes,” She nodded, “Twins, Kassidy and my son Sidney.” She explained.
“Twins?” He spoke in disbelief, he shook his head, he always wanted kids but his wife wasn’t able to conceive, finding out he had two kids was overwhelming, “I want meet.” He demanded.
“No,” Vivian refused, “You don’t get to do this Evgeni, you can’t just show up 20 years later and expect everything to be okay.”
“I was scared.” He admitted
”I was too! I was only 14!” She shouted.
A part of Vivian understood Geno’s reasoning, he was the King of Raids only son and would be king himself when he was older, they were both teenagers and made mistakes. When Vivian got pregnant at 14 Geno was terrified, he told her he wanted nothing to do with her. Vivian couldn’t tell her parents she was pregnant, especially since they would never believe it was the prince of Raids who had gotten her pregnant.
Vivian was a part of a royal family too, she lived in a small kingdom just north of Raids, she wasn’t direct royals but only a distant cousin. She had the privilege of meeting the prince of Raids one night and they both had grown to really like each other, or at least that’s what Vivian thought. Vivian ran away from home one night, she had gathered what she could and took off; she settled in Neilath and began a new life with her kids.
How would Vivian explain to her kids that the man who had raised them, the man they thought was their father wasn’t the man who created them, she couldn’t do it. This lie had gone on for too long and there was no way they’d ever forgive her for lying to them their whole lives.
“You need to go before my kids get home.” Vivian demanded, she walked over to the door and held it open for him.
“Mine too.” He corrected her.
“You don’t get to call them your kids when you walked out on them before they were even born,” She spat, “Now leave.”
Evgeni nodded his head understanding, he knew he had severely messed up but he was only a kid back then. He’d give her some time too cool down, she’ll forgive him eventually, or at least he hoped.

Vivian had stayed up for hours last night waiting for her kids, when they finally arrived they were so exhausted they passed out the minute they reached their beds. They sat at their table eating their breakfast together; neither of them said a word about last night festivities.
Kassidy had seemed off about something the minute she got home, Vivian could tell something was bothering her daughter; she sat across from her and played with her breakfast. Vivian looked over at Sidney, he was also acting different, he seemed a lot more happy and excited to get up in the morning, it was like he found a reason to be happy again.
When Sidney had returned from the war he was different, he never spoke about what happened while he was gone, he kept to himself for a few months and it tore Vivian apart to see her son so broken knowing she couldn’t do anything to fix it.
“Is that a hickey?” Vivian shouted, she grabbed her son’s neck and inspected the red and purple love bite.
“Mom!” Sid groaned as he swatted her away from him.
“Who gave that to you?” She asked sternly, she was demanding to know what her son had done at the party last night.
Sidney sighed, “Arabella Toews.”
“The king’s daughter?” Vivian shouted, she shook her head, “Stay away from her Sidney.” She warned.
“Why?” Sid whined.
“Because I said so.” She hissed, Vivian wasn’t going to let her son make the same mistakes she made.
Sid got up from his seat and groaned as he stomped to his room, Vivian shook her head, one day he’ll realize she did this to protect him.
“Mom?” Kassidy called gaining her attention, “Last night I met King Malkin and he said he knew you.” She explained.
“He must have mistaken me for someone else, I don’t know Malkin.” Vivian lied.
“That’s what I thought, until I noticed him leave the party and come back a few hours later, he came up to me and told me he was sorry and would make it up to Sid, you and I once you forgave him. I still thought maybe it was a mistake until I realized he knew Sid’s name even though I had never told him, I asked Sidney and he hadn’t said a word to him.”
“Kassidy…” Vivian sighed.
Kassidy held up a hand so her mom would let her finish, “Not only that but when we arrived back in Neilath the villagers couldn’t stop talking about how the King of Raids had visited our village. I know he came to see you last night. So why are you lying to me mother?”
Vivian sighed, she knew it was time, this lie had gone far enough. She called out for Sidney to join them at the table, Sid walked back still mad at his mother for their previous conversation. He sat down beside his mother waiting to hear what she had to say.
“There’s something I need to tell you.” She confessed.
