Public Relations

Finally the first preseason game has arrived. Everyone has to be at the rink by ten in the morning for the morning skate. I on the other hand have to be at the rink at eight this morning. My alarm goes off and I roll over. I turn off the annoying buzzing. I get up and go to the washroom. I had my clothes for today set out last night. I change into my black high waist pencil skirt and my white button up tight fit shirt. I pull on a black blazer with gold accents. I decide to make pancakes for breakfast. I go downstairs. I find Lily in the kitchen. She is already in the middle of making breakfast.
“Good morning.” She says. “Coffee?”
“Good morning.” I say. “Yes please.”
“I know it’s going to be a busy day. I thought I would help you out.” Lily says. I yawn.
“Thanks.” I say taking the cup from Lily. “First preseason game.”
“Yeah Reid is really excited.” She says smiling. I sit down at the bar.
“I know he is.” I say. “It took forever to get him to sleep last night.”
“I’m not surprised.” Lily says. We both laugh. Once breakfast is almost ready I go upstairs to wake Reid up. I walk into his room and see him sleeping. He looks so adorable I almost don’t want to wake him up. I go over to his bed and kneel down next to it.
“Good morning baby.” I say giving him a kiss on the side of his head. He slowly opens his eyes and yawns.
“Mommy.” He says blinking at me.
“Time to get up.” I say. “It’s time for breakfast.”
“Hockey today?” He asks grinning from ear to ear.
“Yes baby.” I say smiling. He jumps out of bed and runs over to his toy chest where his new number eighteen jersey is laying on top. He studies it over and over. “We will put it on after breakfast.”
“Okay.” He says. He runs out of his room and I follow him out. By the time we get to the kitchen Lily has the food out on the table. The three of us sit down to eat.
“I have the tickets at my office.” I say. “What time do you want to come?”
“The game starts at seven right?” Lily asks.
“Yes.” I say. “I think you should be there around six.”
“Where am I going?” She asks.
“I have a visitor pass for you to park in the team parking.” I say. “Just call me once you’ve parked and I will bring Reid down.”
“Alright.” She says. We finish up breakfast and I give her directions for the rink. I finish getting ready and Lily gets Reid dressed. Once we’re both ready we get in the car and go over to the rink. Reid talks the entire way there. He is so excited to meet the players and to see the game tonight.

Reid has been so helpful already today. He helped me take pictures during practice and helped with the press after practice. For a three year old, going on four, he really listens. He did everything we asked of him.
After practice James took Reid and I out for lunch. We are sitting in a booth at the T.G.I Friday’s at the side of the rink. We just finished eating. I check the time on my phone.
“We better get upstairs.” I say.
“Lot’s of work?” James asks.
“Yeah a couple of press related things.” I say trying not to laugh.
“That’s kind of your job.” James says. I roll my eyes at him and he laughs.
“Plus this little guy needs a nap.” I say, running my hand through Reid’s hair. Reid yawns and James looks at me. We both laugh.
“What do you say to James for taking us out for lunch?” I ask Reid. I stand up out of the booth and Reid climbs out of his booster seat. He walks around the table to where James is still sitting.
“Tank you.” He says giving James a hug.
“No problem bud.” James says. I smile at the two of them. After James gets out of the booth Reid starts playing with his cars on the booth where James was just sitting. I put my arms around James’ neck.
“Thank you for lunch. I’ll see you tonight.” I say.
“Count on it.” He says before kissing me. The three of us walk out of the restaurant together. Reid and I go back into the arena and James goes down the street toward the team parking lot. As we walk through the lobby of Consol, Reid can’t stop looking around at all the different pictures. He points Sid out more than once as we go up the escalator. Once we get up to my office Reid sits on the couch.
“Do you want to watch a movie?” I ask.
“Which movie do you have here?” I hear a male voice ask from the door. Both Reid and I look at the door. Sid is leaning against the doorframe.
“Sid!” Reid yells. He drops his cars and runs across the room. He jumps right into Sid’s arms. Sid pulls him up onto his hip.
“Hey little man.” Sid says.
“Game today.” Reid says.
“Yeah, are you excited?” Sid asks carrying Reid back across the room.
“Yes.” Reid says. Sid puts Reid down in front of the couch.
“What do you want to watch?” I ask Reid. He picks a Thomas movie and I put it on my laptop for him. He lies down on the couch to watch the movie. Sid and I go over to my desk. We sit down on opposite sides.
“How’s everything?” Sid asks.
“Good.” I say.
“Ready for the away games?” Sid asks. I glance at Reid.
“Not really, but its part of job and I love what I do.” I say smiling.
“I do too.” Sid says. We both laugh.
“Can you sign some stuff for me?” I ask smiling.
“You always trick me into this.” He says.
“What ever do you mean?” I ask innocently.
“I always end up signing things when I come to your office.” Sid says.
“It’s not my fault everyone wants you to do commercials and such.” I say waving my hands in the air.
“I guess your right.” He says. I stand up and go over to my filing cabinet. I open it up and take out Sid’s file. I bring it back to my desk and find the couple of things I need him to sign. I hand them over to him.
“Read them over and sign next to the arrow sticky notes.” I say. He sits back in the chair and starts reading. I turn to my huge pile of papers on the side of my desk. I start going through them. Once Sid finished looking through all the things he needed to sign, he said goodbye to Reid and went to do his pregame preparations.
Reid is sleeping on the couch and I have a couple press related things I need to finish before the game tonight. I work through them quickly. Before I know it, its time to get something to eat before the game. I go over to where Reid is sleeping. I sit down beside him on the couch.
“Baby its time to get up.” I say. He opens his eyes and looks around the room. He yawns.
“Hockey time?” He asks.
“Almost.” I say. “Lily should be here soon.”
“I’m hungry.” He says.
“I know baby. Lily will get dinner for you upstairs in the box.” I say. Reid smiles. I get him up and ready. Lily calls me when she gets to the rink. I take Reid down to Lily. They go off to get him something to eat and I make my way to the dressing room. It’s just over two hours until puck drop. I stop in the kitchen where I know Sid will be getting his pregame sandwich.
“Hey.” He says as I approach him. “Where’s Reid?”
“Upstairs with Lily.” I say.
“Pawn your kid off on her again?” He asks.
“Very funny.” I say. “He wants to see the game and I have to run around all throughout the game.”
“Yes a PR’s job is never done.” Sid says. I roll my eyes.
“CBC wants an interview with you before the game.” I say smiling. Sid rolls his eyes.
“You always wait till the last minute to tell me these things.” He says.
“I don’t ever want to give you time to back out.” I say.
“I noticed.” He says. We both start laughing. James comes around the corner.
“Hey babe.” James says coming over to me. He gives me a quick kiss.
“Hey.” I say. “Ready for the game?”
“Yeah.” He says. “It’s going to be nice to get out there again.”
“I’m sure it will be.” I say. “I need to do a couple things quickly, but Sid don’t forget, CBC interview.”
“I’ll be there.” Sid says. I smile.
“See you in a bit.” I say to James.
“Sounds good.” He says. I leave the two of them and go back up to my office to get a couple things I need for the game. I’m overly excited for the start of the season. I can’t wait for the season to finally start. My first season as a Pittsburgh PR person is about to start.

After the first period the team is up one to nothing against the visiting Detroit Red Wings. We play the Red Wings again in Detroit this weekend. The first period interview is with Brandon Sutter the goal loan scorer. I get the interview ready and it goes smoothly. After the interview Brandon stops to talk to me for a couple minutes.
“I really like your jacket.” He says. I smile.
“Thanks. I actually got it custom made.” I say.
“Really?” He asks.
“Yeah I had one from when I was in Vancouver.” I say. “This is actually Pittsburgh gold.”
“No way.” He says.
“I’m not lying.” I say. We both laugh.
“You look really good.” He says.
“Thank you.” I say. “I didn’t really get a chance to talk to you the other night at the club.”
“Yeah, James kept you pretty busy.” He says looking away for a second.
“I know.” I say. I pause for a second. “Who was that girl you were with?”
“This girl I met over the summer.” He says.
“Is it serious?” I ask.
“Not really.” He says.
“Good.” I say. We lock eyes for a couple seconds.
“Why?” He asks looking confused.
“You could do so much better.” I say matter-of-factly. He doesn’t say anything for a minute. “I should get back upstairs.”
“Yeah, I should get in the dressing room.” He says.
“Good luck.” I say turning to walk away. “By the way, your goal was beautiful.”
“Thanks.” He says smiling. I turn and walk away. I go back upstairs to the press box to get ready for the second period.
The game ended with us winning five to two. Sid and James both scored. Reid had an amazing time at the game and he got to meet the rest of the team after the game. James came over after the game and the two of us just watched a movie together. It was a great day, but very tiring. I knew this would be an exciting season. I was really becoming close with the guys on the team and I was happy this move was working out well.

I got my laptop back like 5 days ago , but ive been a huge slacker. OOPS.
