Either You Do...Or You Don't

Allison’s POV:

Brian pulled up to my apartment, “So can we hang out again? Maybe tomorrow?” he asked

“Maybe…thanks for tonight.” I replied, hurrying out of his car and up to my apartment. What was I going to do? I had just seen Melanie cheating on James.

It wasn’t really any of my business, but he needed to know. I grabbed my cell and typed in his number. After a few rings, I considered hanging up, but he answered. “Hello?” his voice groggy. I must’ve woken him up.

“James, it’s me.” I replied

“Allison?” he sounded surprised more than confused

“Yes? Did I wake you up?”

“Kind of…it’s hard to sleep in this hospital bed.”

“Hospital bed? Why are you in the hospital?” I asked

“They made me come and the doctors made me stay because of my recent concussion. To monitor me or some shit. I stopped listening after they said I’d have to stay here overnight.” he explained

“Well are you okay?”

“As for now…I feel fine. So any reason you called?” he asked

“James…I don’t know how to tell you this…”

“How to tell me what?”

“Melanie’s cheating on you.” I blurted out

James’ POV:

“You’re lying…” I replied

“No, James, I’m not.”

“Bull shit, Allison…you just want to make me mad so I’ll break up with her.” I was furious. Why couldn’t she just leave me and Melanie alone?

“You know that isn’t true!” she argued

“Well, I know Melanie wouldn’t cheat on me.”

“I saw her, James! She was making out with another guy!” she yelled

“You’re lying…”

“You know I’m not, James. She still hasn’t called you, right? She’s ignoring all your calls because she’s with somebody else.”

“No she hasn’t called me back, but she’s busy…” I fought back, trying to convince myself more than Allison.

“James…”

“She wouldn’t cheat on me!” I practically yelled causing a nurse to peak into my room

“Are you okay?” she asked

“I’m fine.” I said pointing to my phone and the nurse nodded before leaving

“What?” Allison asked, confused

“I was talking to the nurse…are you sure it was her?”

Allison sighed, “Yes…I’m sorry…”

I just nodded, even though I knew she couldn’t see me…I didn’t even know what to say…I was hurt and devastated. How could Melanie do this to me?

“James? Are you still there?”

“I..I have to go. Bye, Allison.” I said, just hanging up. I curled back up in bed, that’s when the headaches started…”Fuck…” I mumbled. This was not good. Not good at all.
