Come Closer

“I cannot believe that she might be going back to that loser.” I said to James pacing around the living room.

“If he cheats on her then it’s her own damn fault.” He said sitting on the couch.

“And you know what, she is not going to come crying to me when he breaks her heart…again.”

Khloe left yesterday and James came home this morning, I was filling him in on our conversation about sperm donors and getting married. It has been a week since the implantation and I was feeling alright, I’m tired a lot and I get out of breath walking up the stairs.

“So… I have been thinking of names.” James said hesitantly. “Just in case.”

“Yeah?” I said sitting down next to him. “What have you come up with?”

“I really like Kendall for a girl.” He said. “Kayden for boy, you know…stick with the Ks.”

“I love them, where did you come up with these?” I asked.

“I was just sitting on the plane coming home and they just popped into my head.”

“Well I guess we will find out next week.” I said curling up in his arms and falling asleep.

The boys had a quick away game today and Giselle texted me and asked if I would come with her to her first ultrasound since Brandon was gone today. I decided that I was going to be there for her throughout her pregnancy, if I was pregnant or not.

I picked her up around 2 to take her to her 2:30 appointment. She came out of her house looking like shit.

“Are you ok?” I asked as she got into the car. “You don’t look very good.”

“I feel like shit, I have been throwing up all day and night, like that can’t be normal.”

“It’s good that we are going to the doctor today, how long have you been feeling sick?” I asked.

“Since Tuesday.”

“I guess we will find out today then.”

Hearing Giselle’s baby’s heartbeat was so precious. Her face lit up when she heard it for the first time. She was given a shit ton of vitamins to take and something to help with the morning sickness. We decided to go out for a late lunch and go back to my place to watch the game.

“So Khloe is thinking of getting back with her ex-boyfriend.” I said turning the TV on when we got into the house.

“The one who cheated on her with his ex?”

I told her the whole story on the way up to Toronto when we went so go dress shopping and see the girls play.

“Yeah…she is so fucking stupid.” I said. “Like she caught him sleeping with his old girlfriend in their bed 2 days before the wedding, I told him that I cursed the day he was born and I haven’t seen him since and that was like 5 years ago.”

“It’s her own fault is he cheats on her again, don’t say that you didn’t warn her when she comes crying back to you when it all falls apart.”

“Amen sister.” I said getting up and getting us something to drink.

“So, how many boyfriends have you had before you came back?” she asked a little hesitantly.

“Brayden Johnson, I dated him for 3 years…we were engaged actually.” I said sitting down next to her.

“Really, what happened?” she asked sitting up.

“Well…when I went back home from Pittsburgh when James and I broke up, Khloe and I went out that night to get my mind of it. We were getting drinks at the bar and I met him, I found out he was a customs officer, plays on a recreational volleyball team and he just got out of a serious relationship so we just hit it off. We didn’t start going out until about 4 months later. We went out for 3 years before he proposed. He came to visit me in Europe that summer and he proposed to me in Paris, under the Eiffel tower.” I said.

“How romantic.” She said.

“So I said yes at the time and he stayed with me till the end of summer when I was supposed to go home. We got back and we bought a house together, had the whole nine yards. We got a dog, got 2 really nice cars and combined bank accounts…which was a huge mistake. It started to fall apart about a year after we got engaged. We were arguing a lot, we started sleeping in different beds and accused each other of cheating.”

“So what happened after that?” she asked.

“We both decided that separating was the best thing for us, I got the house and we split the money and we shared into two ways so it was settled in a very professional manner, and after that we never spoke to each other again.”

“That’s horrible, does James know about this?”

“He was the first one I called when Brayden and I broke it off, I was pretty upset about it and James was there for me 100% and I loved him for it, he offered to help me out financially but I was a big girl and could handle it myself.” I said.

“I’m glad you’re here now and with your soul mate.”

“Yeah, I’m really happy that everything worked out.” I said.

The boys lost the game and was soon going to be on a flight home because tomorrow was the day when we would find out if I was pregnant.

Today was the day… am I pregnant or not. I am so nervous. I couldn’t sleep last night because of it.

“James I’m really nervous.” I said getting into the car. “What happens if I’m not, then all this down the drain. I have been stabbed so many times that I can’t take it anymore.”

“Everything will be ok, just need to think positive babe.” He said just as we were pulling out of the driveway grabbing my hand.

I started to cry again…I don’t know why I cry so much.

“You can’t tell me that you’re not nervous James.” I said.

“I am nervous, I just want to know. I’m ready to start getting ready for a baby, but we have to put on hold for right now.”

That was the last thing we said to each other before we got to the clinic.

The woman who was taking my blood did IVF also, she successfully had two healthy boys.
“So you can have twins?” I asked her.

“Yeah, you had 2 implanted?” she said. “If both attach then you can have twins. It’s happened to me and a few other patients in the clinic. Honestly, you look really healthy and I would be surprised if you don’t get pregnant with twins, what does your husband think of this?”

“We aren’t married…yet, we just got engaged not that long ago actually.”

“Holy shit, that’s quite the rock.” I put my hand up and showed her my ring.

“Well, Meghan that should be it for now. Hang by the phone, your results should be finished by the end of the day.”

“Thanks so much.” She gave me a hug and I walked out and saw James on his phone. He looked up at me and smiled. I motioned him toward the door without saying anything.

“What did she say?” James asked when we got into the car.

“She said to hang by the phone; my results should be done by the end of the day.” I looked at my phone and turned the ringer high so that I would be sure to hear it.

After we left the clinic we decided to go out for lunch and just relieve the nerves, I was starting to get restless and wanting the results right away.

“I hate this waiting game.” I said to James when we got home after lunch. “They are just playing with my emotions.”

“You and me both…I just want to know.”

“The nurse said that there could be a chance that both eggs could attach and that we could have twins.”

“I’d love that.” He said as I sat down at the island.

“Really?”

“I think that would be…”

The phone rang and I looked at the caller id and sure enough it was the clinic.

“Do you want to answer it, do you want to at answer it.” We said back and forth.

I picked up the phone and received the results.

I looked at James with tears in my eyes.
