Come Closer

5 months later

I am now currently 5 months pregnant with twins, I’m healthy, the babies are healthy everything is exactly how it should be.

After James got out of the funk he was in from losing to the Rangers in Game 7, he was finally his self again.

“James someone is at the door.” I yelled at him up the stairs.

I went and got the door and finally my two cribs arrived. Just as I was signing for the cribs James came down stairs and helped the delivery guy move them into the house.

“Thanks man.” James said closing the door shaking his hand.

“Yay! They are finally here!” I said clapping my hands.

“The babies will love them I’m sure.”

James and I just found out that I am pregnant with a boy and a girl.

“Let’s go set them up.” I said looking at the receipt.

Together James and I carried them up the stairs into the freshly painted room.

“They are perfect.” James opened the boxes , even though they needed to be put together I was in love with them.

We pulled out all the little bags with screws, wooden pegs and the instructions.

“Ok, connect wooden piece 1 to #4 edge.” I said sitting down.

“Babe I don’t need instructions.” He smiled at me.

“Well that’s too bad, were going to use them anyway.”

“Whoa, sassy.” He laughed.

“It’s the hormones.”

“Is that going to be your excuse for everything?” he said searching for the pieces.

“Probably.” I smiled up at him.

While screwing in pieces, James’ phone rang. He put everything down in front of me and ran down to the stairs to answer the phone.

5 minutes had passed, no James. 10 minutes had passed, no James. 20 minutes later James came back up the stairs and sat down beside me and we sat in silence for a few minutes.

“Better take these cribs apart.” He said.

“Why?” I looked at him concerned.

“I’ve been traded.”

“Wait…what?” I said “Traded? Traded where?”

“Nashville.”

“James I’m not even really too sure where to start.”

“I want to go down there soon, we need to find a place before these babies are born, we have 4 months.” He said, I could see a small tear come from his eye through his glasses. “I thought I was safe this summer…this has to be the worst time to get traded.”

“Everything will be fine.” I said pulling him close to me.

After the trade broke to the public James and I received over 50 text messages, 20+ phone calls and it was really getting on James’ nerves.

“I understand that people care about us but I am way to busy right now to talk to anyone.”
James wanted to get down to Nashville ASAP. I was sent to the computer to find a real estate agent and good areas with good schools to find a place to live. I am going to spend the next 6 years there and maybe more, I want my children to live in a nice home with both their parents.

Just as I was going to call a realtor Khloe phoned me and I put her on speaker.

“Hey, make it quick, I have to phone a realtor and book a plane ticket to Nashville.”

“I just heard about the trade, how are you doing?”

“I haven’t really had time to think about it, James and I need to find a place down there because the babies are coming in October and I want to have the nursery perfect.” I said. “I’m already exhausted.”

“Brad and I are engaged.” She said really quiet.

“Jesus Christ.” I stopped what I was doing, took the phone off speaker and put it to my ear.

“I don’t want you to say anything, just listen.”

I sat back in my chair and ran my free arm over my stomach.

“We talked about it and I told him he was going to get one chance and if he does something stupid then it’s over…no questions asked.”

“I don’t even know what to say, I’m not sure whether to be happy for you or go up to Toronto or give you a hot slap.” I said. “But since you are my best friend I will be happy for you... but if he hurts you again then I will hurt him”

“Meghan, did you find anything?” James yelled.

“Kinda.” I yelled back.

“Khloe I got to go, I’ll phone you later once I know what’s happening." I said before hanging up the phone.

James came up stairs and sat down beside me at the computer.

“Who was that on the phone?” he asked.

“Khloe, she’s engaged.”

“To who?” he said being serious.

“Who do you think?”

“Paulie?” he laughed.

“No, Brad.”

“How do you feel about that?”

“I don’t care, I’m going to make it seem like I’m happy for her but really I’m not…she is making a huge mistake.” I grabbed my phone and pulled up Instagram.

“She was happy for us when we got engaged.”

“James that’s different, you didn’t cheat on me.” I said.

“Omg…” I stopped and grabbed my stomach.

I quickly grabbed James’ hand put it to where one of the babies was kicking.

“That’s so fucked.” He said through a smile.

“I still can’t believe that there are 2 babies in there.”

“Me either, I still can’t believe we are having twins.” I said putting my phone down.

I saw James put his head in his hands and rubbed his eyes with his palms.

“Babe what’s wrong?” I asked him.

“I just can’t believe all this is happening. I want a stable home for my family, I don’t want to be moving from city to city every 5 years. What happens when the kids are older and in school and I get traded?” he started going off on a rant. “Then I’ll be the shitty father who takes their kids out of school because of my job.”

“Honey, we will figure something out, the kids aren’t even born yet.” I said. “So just relax.”

Seeing James like this really broke my heart, he loves this city and honestly I do to. We got back together here, engaged here and got pregnant here. Nashville will be a brand new start for us and I’m excited for this new chapter in my life.
