Come Closer

James was still at Paul’s house finishing cleaning up the kitchen when Meghan and Khloe left.

“I’m so fucked” said James as he took a seat on a stool behind the island.

“Your still in love with Meghan aren’t you?” said Paul already knowing the answer.

“Seeing her play at the game brought back so many amazing memories, I went to every one of her volleyball games, and seeing her last night at the bar made all of those feelings came back”

“So what are you going to do?” asked Paul closing the dishwasher door.

“I have no idea, do I tell her that I still love her and tell the truth or keep my mouth shut and let her go back to Ontario, and again… I will just me a distant memory.”

“I know this is going to sound a little old fashioned but honestly James, life is to short…you let her go once, do you really want her to walk out again?” “Just do me a favour, go home and think about it, I think you should tell her how you feel, but that’s just my opinion, in the end it’s your choice”

James got up and thanked Paul for the advice and for making breakfast, and walked back to his house which was only a few steps away.

James walked into his house flopped on his couch and said out loud to himself “I can’t let her go again, I need to tell her how I feel.”

“Good God, I have never been so tired in my entire life!” I said jumping onto my bed in the hotel room.

“I swear, he enjoys making us miserable” Khloe yelled while in the shower.

Jeff Anderson really knew how to get us into shape. We were at the Gym for an hour. After, we went onto the court and did at least 20 drills. Blocking, setting, ball control and many more. We weren't dismissed till 3.
Good thing we only have to do this 4 time a week.

“Khloe, do you know where I phone is” I yelled at her checking my bag.

“No” she came out of the bathroom with her hair up in a towel, wearing comfy sweat pants and a Canada Volleyball t-shirt.
“Did you leave it at Paul’s?” , shit... I remember I set it on the table while eating and with James distracting me, I must have forgotten to pick it up.

“Can you phone Paul and see if I left it there, please” with that I hoped in the shower.

Just like most people, I do my most serious thinking in the shower. James popped into my mind first, I will always love James and I think that he is amazing but I’m not getting any younger and my reproduction clock is ticking. Was James ready to be a husband and eventually a father? I wasn’t really sure, but I was very sure that I still loved him and I needed to tell him, I was not going to lose him this time and maybe I could help him commit.

“Have you heard about my phone?” I asked Khloe just coming out of the shower.

“Yeah is over at Paul’s house, but he is going out to run some errands, but he said he would give it to James before he left so it should be at James’ house.”

Once Khloe said that my phone was at James’ I quickly blow dried and put some lose curls in my hair. I wore very little makeup, some eyeliner, mascara and a little foundation. I wore a pair of lululemon capris with a small slit up the back, a white tank top, a jacket that hugged every curve in my upper body and a pair of navy blue TOMS.

“Alright I’m leaving, don’t forget dinner with the team at 6, I shouldn’t be very long” I said grabbing the keys and my wallet.

“Maybe you should be the one remembering what time dinner is” she said turning and winking at me. I just rolled my eyes and walked out the door.

I pulled into James’ driveway, took a deep breath and thought to myself, just get your phone and walk out…just get your phone and walk out.
Before I could knock James opened the door wearing the same outfit he wore at Paul’s house this morning, he invited me in and I immediately saw my phone sitting on the side table.

“Thanks James for getting my phone for me, I now don’t have to worry” smiling up at him.

“Meghan we need to talk”

Fuck, this can go one of two ways…he will either tell me that he still loves me and we will get back together or he will tell me he hates me and never want to see me again.

“Sure…what’s up?” I sat down on the couch next to him.

“When I went to the game yesterday something happened, I’m not sure what to call it but, my love for you came flowing back…”

YES, YES, YES!

“And last night at the bar every time I looked at you I saw that 18 year old girl again looking at me with a sparkle in your eye.”

Is this actually happening?

“When I went down to Dallas I lost a part of me, I couldn’t stop thinking about you, but once you started going to Europe every summer, I just thought that you and I were not meant to be.”

He still loves me.

“I wanted to ask you if you are willing to try again, bring back to life what we had before.”

“James…”

I couldn’t find the words to say I love you…so I showed him.
