One Step at a Time

The Dog Problem

I pulled out my laptop from my carry-on bag and quickly turned it on and logged into Skype. Patrick wasn't on so I sent him a quick text telling him to get on. He quickly responded with

- Just got home from practice, give me 10? Gotta shower.

I responded with "mkay" and went to get dressed for dinner. I ran to the bathroom and let my hair down and brushed it out and touched up my makeup. I then went to my closet and grabbed the second to last remaining outfit and pulled that on. It was a tight fitting white button up blouse with a pair of black dress pants with a black high waisted belt on the shirt. By the time I was done Patrick was already calling me on Skype. I walked over and sat on my bed and answered it.

"What’s up lollipop?" God, he really needs to reconsider the names he has for me.

"Just got done packing, I have a really big and utterly important question for you and Jonathan."

"Um, okay?" He looked confused. "Hey! Asshat! Get in here!" He yelled at Jon and I couldn't help laughing. Then he looked at me and stuck his tongue out at me. Jonathan appeared from the kitchen, yet again, and leaned over the back of the couch and looked at me. His hair was still wet, either from sweat or water, and he was in a Blackhawks tee shirt and sweatpants. He looked super casual and pretty attractive; I never noticed how brown his eyes were. I wonder what they'll be like in person.

"Hey, Alisa. Stop daydreaming, I know that look and stop gawking at the captain." He snickered at me and I looked away realizing what I was doing and blushed.

"Hey, it’s all good Kaner. Don't worry, doesn't hurt to look, anyways, did you have to ask us something, Lis?" God, he used my nick name, what the hell did Kane tell him?

"Uh, yeah, actually I did." I cleared my throat, "You don't have dogs do you? And if you don't, do you mind getting a couple?"

Kane just stared at me, and Toews looked at me in confusion.

"No, but I'm assuming you do?" Toews questioned.

"Yeah, It sounds stupid, however, I need them. I've had them since they were puppies and I've raised them by myself for 5 years. It’s not fair to leave them and they don't know what is going on. Its bad enough Josh left them, I can't leave them either."

"Oh God.." Kane muttered, "Is it the Aussies you have that you're talking about?"

"Jackson and Cheyenne? Yeah. They're potty trained and well behaved. 4-H champions, I put them in a crate or my room whenever I go somewhere and no one is home. They won't do anything. I promise. Come on pat. You know them, they're good." I pushed on

"Yeah, I know. They're great dogs, just what about when we leave for games? The season hasn't started yet, but when it does its going to be hectic."

"I'm sure there's a kennel SOMEWHERE in Chicago. I can put them there."

"I think it sounds like a good idea Kaner." Jonathan added, "Let her bring them. They can't be that bad. How big are they?"

I laughed and called them into my room. They both jumped on my bed and I turned my camera towards them, "This big. This one is Cheyenne," I said pointing to the blue merle, "and the tri colored one is Jackson. They're brother and sister. Always together."

"I can't believe I'm agreeing to this. But fine, bring them." Kane rolled his eyes. I smiled and Jonathan patted his shoulder.

"Thanks Kaner, I promise they'll be good. You don't have to worry about them."

Jonathan looked at me, "Well I can't wait to meet the new roommates, especially now that she has dogs."

I laughed, "Thanks Jonathan, Hey you two, I gotta get going. We're throwing a goodbye party and I wanna help cook once more. I'll text you later Kane, but in case he's out, do you mind if I text you Jonathan?"

He laughed and we both exchanged numbers and finished the call. I smiled; I was now even more excited to move to Chicago. This was going to be fun. I placed my computed in my carry-on bag and put it with the rest of the bags I had. I needed to see if I could only bring about 5 bags on the plane, and if Trent would nicely ship the rest of the stuff to me by Friday, and with that I raced downstairs to help cook.
