One Step at a Time

"It’s about time you got down here. What were you doing anyways?" Trent asked as I walked over to the island in the kitchen and threw a salad together. Tris was at the other side of the island working on a pie and Trent was at the stove cooking tacos, enchiladas, and burritos. The kitchen smelled wonderful and it was making me hungry.

"Skyping with Kane and Toews. Persuading them into allowing me to bring Jack and Chy to Chicago. Why?"

Tris looked up at me and stopped pouring the pie mix into the pie. "Wait, Toews. Jonathan Toews?"

"Yeah, Jonathan Toews, the captain," I laughed at her, " Why? I think that’s the most excited I've seen you all day. Whats up with that?"

"Well, when your best friend says she's moving back to Chicago, you get pretty upset. But about the Jonathan Toews thing. Mhm, is all I have to say. I'm not a hockey fan, but I'm pretty sure I could get into it for him." She giggled at Trent turned around and looked at her. He winced and acted like that burned him.

"Wow, and right in front of Trent, he's gonna be heartbroken."

"Eh, he'll get over it." she winked at him and he smiled and went back to working on the food. "Wait, didn't you have this major crush on him? I think I remember Josh always getting pissy about you talking about how great of a hockey player he was."

"That's because Josh is a dumb ass, I found it funny that he would get all defensive over someone I probably would never meet. But anyways, yes, that Jonathan Toews. He lives with Kane also. He was on Skype with us and I got his number."

"Woah, you and Josh just broke up and you already have someone else's number? How did you manage to get that anyway?" She questioned me.

"In case Patrick was asleep. I need to find out who's picking me up at the airport tomorrow, I imagine Kane or Uncle Q, but I still don't know. I didn't ask, so I got Jonathan's number. Nothing more. Calm yourself!"

Trent laughed at the both of us and asked me to set the table, I heard the door open and close and heard the voices of my Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa and Ryan. I quickly set the large table and made sure that everything was in place for everyone. I walked back into the kitchen where Trent was finishing up cooking and mom started to set all of the food out, my family also brought some along with them. I was also told that the rest of my family was also bringing food. God, so much food! We all had fun setting up, laughing and just having fun like we did when were little.

The rest of my family finally showed up and I greeted them with a hug. I had a large family and I was glad that all of them came in such a short notice. About 15 minutes after they all showed up, we gathered around in the kitchen, said grace, got food and sat down to eat. I took my usual spot next to my Mom and Dad, with Tris and Trent across from me. We all laughed and just had a great time at the table, after wards we basically did whatever we wanted. Some of us played card games, my dad, uncles, grandpa and trent took over the TV and watched a football game. I went up to my room with mom, Ryan, grandma and Tess and just sat there and talked. My phone then started ringing, so I grabbed it and looked at the caller id. It was uncle Q.

"Excuse me, I have to take this. Its Uncle Q." I said as I excused myself from the room and went outside to answer it.

"Hey Uncle Q."
"Hey Lis, I tried to get a hold of you this morning, but I'm guessing you were asleep."
"Yeah, sorry about that. I've been meaning to call you back but I completely forgot, I've been really busy with the packing and all. The family is acutally over right now, we're having a little going away party."
"Ah, its okay. Tell them I said hi. So from my understanding, you're flying in at 3 tomorrow and staying with Kaner and Tazer right? Will I be picking you up or will they be doing it?"
"Yeah, I leave at noon here, and I don't know, I was hoping you all would come, that way after wards we could all go out to eat and catch up."
"Okay, that sounds good, well go ahead and get a hold of the boys tonight and text me before you fly out to make sure we're all on the same page. Well, I'll let you get back to the family, I love you Lis, I'm so glad you're coming."
"I love you too Q, and me too, believe me. See you tomorrow"
"See you."

And with that the line clicked dead. I got back to my family and we hung out for about a half an hour longer before they left. Afterwards Trent, Tess, and I moved all of my stuff downstairs and put the rest of my clothes in boxes for them to be shipped. I made sure I had 3 of my suitcases, my purse, carry-on bags, and the dogs stuff for tomorrow and went upstairs to get to bed. I quickly sent a few texts to Jonathan telling him that they, and Uncle Q will be picking me up. He simply said it sounded good and I should get to bed. I told him goodnight and fell asleep in my bed for the last time.
