It’s the first part of June and Missy is training her Standardbred filly, Something Awesome, for her upcoming race at weeks end when she will be racing in an elimination for the Fan Hanover at Mohawk Racetrack in Toronto, Canada. Something has been on a pretty impressive winning streak. She has only ever lost once and that was her very first start. Missy calls her best friend Leslie to see how things are in Pittsburgh.

Leslie - You sound tired.
Missy - I’m beat and I don’t feel that great.
Leslie - Then you should go back to your hotel room and rest hon.
Missy - I think I will.
Leslie - Don’t worry I’ll check on things at the farm.
Missy - Ok thanks
Leslie - I’ll talk to you later.

The girls hang up. Missy goes back to her hotel for a nap and then dinner. It’s now Saturday and Something wins her elimination and then dominates in the final the follow week. It’s now the middle part of June and Something was entered in an elimination for the James Lynch but ends up being scratched due to a minor illness. Missy brings Something home and then sees a text from her cousin inviting her to the NHL draft next weekend. It’s now the day before the 2006 NHL Draft. Missy is packing for a trip to Vancouver later that afternoon. Her dear friend Leslie calls her.

Leslie - Hey, are you busy?
Missy - Kind of, why?
Leslie - Oh yeah that’s right you’re going to Vancouver for a few days.
Missy - Yeah, I’m going to the draft.
Leslie - Man you’re lucky being Mario’s cousin.
Missy - I know I am. He can’t go and asked me if I could go to represent the family I guess.
Leslie - Don’t worry I’ll look after things here.
Missy - Only thing you have to do is collect my mail.
Leslie - I think I can do that.
Missy - Well I better finish packing.
Leslie - Ok have fun.
Missy - I’ll talk to you when I get there.

The girls hang up and Missy finishes her packing. Missy heads down to her car and heads to the airport. Several hours pass and she arrives in Vancouver and heads to her hotel room. She gets to her room and logs onto her computer and orders some room service for dinner. She turns on her video chat and talks to Leslie for awhile.

Leslie - Hey, how was the flight.
Missy - It was fine.
Leslie - Hope you grabbed something to eat.
Missy - I just ordered room service it should be here soon.
Leslie - So see any of this years draftees yet?
Missy - They’re all staying at the same hotel as me so yes.
Leslie - Lucky you but then maybe you can go hunting for a new hottie.
Then there is a knock at the door
Missy - Just a second my food is here.
Leslie - OK

Missy gets up from her bed and gets the door. She answers the door pays for her food. As she’s closing the door sees a very cute tall blonde walking down the hall. She closes the door and goes back over to the bed and eats her dinner while she continues talking to Leslie.

Missy - You’re not going to believe this.
Leslie - What?
Missy - There is a very cute very tall blonde staying down the hall from me.
Leslie - Well you’ve been wanting a new guy in your life for awhile. Talk to him while you’re there.
Missy - Really?
Leslie - Well sure he could be very nice guy.
Missy - Ok I will if we end up drafting him. I hear he’s one of the top draft picks.
Leslie - Hmm (goes to the NHL’s website and looks at the profiles of the draftees) here we go. You’re blonde hottie is a kid by the name of Jordan Staal.
Missy - Staal? Wonder if he’s related to Eric and Marc.
Leslie - Appears he is. He’s their little brother. Man he’s cute.
Missy - (Hears something outside her room) Ok that’s strange sounds like someone dropped something outside my door.
Leslie - Go see what it is.
Missy - Be right back.

Missy opens the door and sees a single rose laying front of the door. She picks it up and sees a note attached to it.

Leslie - Is that a rose?
Missy - Yeah I don’t know where it came from.
Leslie - Maybe that note will tell you something.
Missy - Oh wow
Leslie - What?
Missy - One of draftees left it.
Leslie - Oh my god one of them must caught sight of you and has a crush on you.
Missy - I wonder which one it is.
Leslie - Well it’s gotta be one who is staying on your floor.
Missy - You don’t think it could be Jordan do you?
Leslie - Well what you could do is leave your room when he does and see if he looks at you like he’s interested in you.
Missy - That’s a good idea. I’m going to run down to the vending machine I need some chocolate.
Leslie - Ok I’ll be here when you come back.
Missy - Be right back.
Leslie - There’s no rush

Missy leaves her room walks down the hall towards the vending machine. Just then Jordan leaves to get some ice. He then accidentally bumps into Missy.

Jordan - Oh uh sorry.
Missy - (Smiles) It’s ok
Jordan - I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times but you’re really pretty.
Missy - (Smiles) You’re the first guy to ever say to me.
Jordan - Really?
Missy - Sadly yes
Jordan - Guys must be blind.
Missy - I’m Missy by the way. You left the rose at my door didn’t you?
Jordan - I’m Jordan. Uh yeah I’m sorry.
Missy - Nothing to be sorry about. It’s really sweet.
Jordan - I think you’re really pretty and my plan worked to get you come talk to me.
Missy - Aww, that’s really sweet.
Jordan - I should get going.
Missy - Ok, I guess I’ll talk to you later.

They go back to there rooms. Leslie starts picking on Missy.

Leslie - You were gone a while.
Missy - That’s cuz I talked to him.
Leslie - Jordan?
Missy - Yeah
Leslie - So what’s he like?
Missy - He’s really sweet and he is so cute. He’s the one who left the rose.
Leslie - Aww, is there any chance you’ll get talk to him again? Aww, that’s really sweet. Did he give a reason why he left you a rose?
Missy - I hope so. He said he left it so that I’d leave the room so I’d talk to him.
Leslie - I sense a little romance possibly budding between you two. Aww, I think he’s crushing on you.
Missy - Well he did say I’m pretty. He has got the prettiest blue eyes.
Leslie - Aww, I don’t think it’ll take much for him to ask you out. Aww, I hope things work out between the two of you. He sounds like a great guy.
Missy - Well I guess we’ll find out tomorrow when I talk to him again.
Leslie - Aww, hope it all goes well.
Missy - I should get ready for bed.
Leslie - Night

Missy logs off her computer and puts it away for the night. She gets ready for bed. She watches TV for awhile before she falls asleep. She wakes up the next morning and gets ready to head to the draft. The first round of the draft comes and goes. Missy heads back to her hotel room. She’s waiting for the elevator when Jordan finds her.

Missy - Guess we’ll be seeing more each other now that you’re a Penguin.
Jordan - (Smiles) Makes getting drafted there even better.
Missy - Aww, really?
Jordan - Sure, don’t suppose you’d like to join me for dinner?
Missy - As in a date?
Jordan - Yeah
Missy - Ok I’ll have dinner with you.
Jordan - I was hoping you’d say that.
Missy - I have to run up to my room for a second. Why don’t you get us a table?
Jordan - Ok I can do that.

Missy runs up to her hotel room to plug in her cell phone so that it can charge. She goes back down to join Jordan for dinner.

Missy - See told you I wouldn’t be gone long.
Jordan - (Smiles) Glad you decided to join me.
Missy - Well I like you Jordan.
Jordan - You do?
Missy - Sure, you’re really nice and really cute.
Jordan - (Smiles) Glad you feel that way. I’d like to see you again. Just don’t laugh at me.
Missy - Really? Why would I laugh at you?
Jordan - Yeah, I left the rose cuz I saw when you opened the door to get your food. I never thought a pretty girl like you would actually talk to a farm boy like me.
Missy - How about breakfast before I head back to Pittsburgh tomorrow afternoon? Aww, well you’re cute and I enjoy talking to you.
Jordan - That sounds good. I’m sure a girl like you is already taken huh?
Missy - Actually I’m not.
Jordan - That’s surprising
Missy - Aww, you want me as your girlfriend don’t you?
Jordan - Well maybe
Missy - Aww, in that case I’ll be your girlfriend. I really should be heading back up to my room.
Jordan - Ok I’ll take you back up to your room.

Jordan pays for dinner and takes Missy back up to her room.

Missy - Thanks for such a nice evening.
Jordan - You’re welcome.
Missy - I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
Jordan - Ok

Jordan wraps his arms around Missy holding her close. He wants to kiss Missy but holds off. Missy goes into her room while Jordan goes back to his room. Missy logs onto her computer and fires up her video chat.

Leslie - You were gone awhile.
Missy - Yeah sorry
Leslie - Nothing to be sorry about. Though you do have to tell me why you’re smelling your jersey.
Missy - Cuz it smells like Jordan now.
Leslie - You went out with him didn’t you?
Missy - Yeah, he asked me to be his girlfriend. I think he wanted to kiss me but was too scared to do it.
Leslie - Aww, so I guess that means you two are officially dating now huh?
Missy - He wants to see me again so I told him we’d have breakfast together before I come home.
Leslie - Aww, he must really like you.
Missy - I should ask him to come here so you can meet him.
Leslie - Aww, I’d love to meet him.
Missy - Ok just a second let me go get him.
Leslie - I’ll be here.

Missy goes to get Jordan and brings him to her room for a few minutes.

Missy - Ok I figured I’d introduce you two to each other. Leslie this is Jordan and vice versa.
Leslie - Nice to meet you Jordan
Jordan - Like wise
Leslie - You better be nice to her.
Jordan - Don’t worry I will.
Leslie - Just promise you two won’t rush things.
Missy - Don’t worry we won’t.
Jordan - Hate to end this but I should be heading to bed.
Missy - Aww, ok talk to you tomorrow.

Jordan leaves and the girls continue to talk

Leslie - No wonder you like him. He’s really cute. And you were right about his eyes
Missy - I know he is and I could stare in those beautiful blue eyes for hours. You don’t think he’s too young for me do you?
Leslie - Aww, of course not. He’s what 17?
Missy - Yeah, he turns 18 in September.
Leslie - Aww, and he’s gotta be what 6’3 or so?
Missy - 6’4 actually
Leslie - Wow that’s tall.
Missy - I’m going to hate coming home tomorrow.
Leslie - Aww, you want to spend more time with him don’t you?
Missy - Yeah
Leslie - He’ll be in Pittsburgh for rookie camp ya know.
Missy - I know but that’s like 2 months away
Leslie - Aww, it’ll go fast.
Missy - How am I going to talk to him now if he’s going back to Thunder Bay for awhile?
Leslie - You can video chat with him. At least then you’d get to see him.
Missy - That’s a good idea. I should be getting to bed.
Leslie - Aww, good night. Call me when you get home.
Missy - I will.

Missy logs off her computer and puts it in its case. She goes to bed. She takes a quick shower, gets dressed, and heads down to having something to eat with Jordan. They talk for awhile. Missy goes back up her room to get her bags and drives to the airport. Hours later she’s back in Pittsburgh. She calls Leslie and Jordan to tell them she made it home ok. She has something quick to eat and then goes to bed.
