Ba-diiing Ba-diiiing. My phone kept ringing and ringing and my hands froze. At the last possible second I slid my finger across the screen to answer Jill's call. The second I breathed into the phone and without saying even a hello, she answered.

"Negative." She said

Tears suddenly rolled down my eyes, I was so happy. I knew she was a trooper. "Jill that's amazing! Thank god! Did you tell Cory?"

"Yeah I finally did tell him, only to scare the crap out of him. It turns out the lump was just a scare, very rare but I guess i'm one of the lucky few to receive them! Liz you have no idea how relieved I am!"

"Jill I am so happy for you!" Tears were still streaming down my face, and a smile reached across it, "lunch on me! Meet me at that italian place next to that bar we went to at 2?"

"Sure! I would love to see you then!" Jill exclaimed.

Thank god. I was so happy. Jill was so full of life, an amazing person who was always giddy, even though I only met her like twice. I finished up my croissants right when Jon was walking in the door on that Saturday morning with a smile on his face.

"Why so happy?" I laughed as he ran over to me and spun me around, "seriously Jon what's up?"

"Seven." He grinned.

Like the word seven was gonna help me. Seven days? Weeks? Flowers? I really had no clue.

"Seven…? What is seven?" I asked while taking the last batch of croissants out of the oven and putting them on a cooling rack.

"My new number. For my new job. On my new team." He grinned and flashed a million dollar smile.

"Wait, like the Devils? Aren't you already on the Dev- wait no. No way! Jon!" I laughed immediately getting it.

"Coach wrote the line up for the 2014-15 season today. Number 7: Jon Merrill! Liz I did it! I am an NHL player!" He picked me up and kissed me. His arms still around my waist. It was one of those kisses where both people smile, "Let's go to lunch! I need a drink."

"Ooo uh" I began starting to wash the bowls in the sink.

"What? By the way how much stuff did you bake? Is someone coming over?"

"No, i'm just going out to lunch already with Jill. I'm sorry babe I didn't know!"

"Schneider?" I nodded, "That's fine dinner tonight! And I didn't know I had to make an appointment to go out with my girlfriend whom I live with. You go get ready for lunch, i'll clean up."

"You're the best." I smiled giving him a quick kiss and running into the bedroom to get ready.

I was running about 10 minutes late because of an accident on the road and I sent a quick text to Jill. She said it was fine and that we were sitting outside because of the nice fall day. I had to agree, the weather was beautiful, 60's all day and perfect for long sleeves and jeans. I found the restaurant eeasily and parked across the street and walked over.

Jill was pretty, long brown curly hair and a smile that was bigger than Jon's if possible. She was one of the nicest people I had ever met. I sat down at a small table with just the two of us outside the restaurant. She stood up to hug me which I gladly returned, very strongly.

"I hope you don't mind, I ordered some white wine?"

"Perfect!" I said, "So are you 100% sure it was negative. I don't mean to bring down the mood but I just want to make sure you're fine."

"Yes Liz, nothing to worry about. They did so many tests through different machines and they all came back negative."

"How did Cory take the news?" I asked as the waiter put our wine glasses down and I took a long sip of mine.

"He was pretty shocked at first because I didn't tell him, but it was the middle of preseason! How was I suppose to ruin that? Anyways, once I told him that it was negative he was super happy."

"That's awesome Jill. I am so happy for you! Did you hear about Jon?"

"Yeah! That's great! He finally made it into the NHL, Cory told me that has been his dream for the longest time!"

"Yeah it has been. Jill can I ask you something?" I said while opening my menu and so did she.

"Shoot." Jill said without looking up from her menu

"Well, okay it's gonna seem crazy, but I had Jon move in with me. I feel like this is going too soon. What do you think?"

"It's not crazy Liz, You like him a lot and he likes you a lot, I can tell by the way you looked at each other that night at the bar when I first met you. He's crazy about you. Nothing can go too fast when you're in love!" Jill smiled.

The waiter came over and refilled our wine glasses as well as took our orders. I got a chicken caesar salad (not as good as Jon's) and Jill got a goat cheese and walnut salad. The meal was delicious. We talked about Jon and Cory a lot, especially mine and Jon's relationship. Before I knew it, the time was almost four and I needed to go get ready for dinner and make some lesson plans for the rest of the week. I quickly paid the bill before Jill could complain and thanked her for everything.

I walked out of the restaurant and into my car and drove home to my apartment. Jon was inside waiting for me to return and sitting on the couch watching football with Kona on his lap when I walked in.

"Hey how does a diner for dinner sound?" Jon asked while lowering the volume on the game.

"Perfect." I said and threw my things down on the ground and settled next to him on the couch with Kona. Perfect was the word I was looking for, because that was what everything in that moment was. Perfect.
