Proving Everyone Wrong

Eight

----Meg’s POV----

I walked into practice three days before our game in Chicago. We had a game tomorrow night against Boston and we were the home team. Today was also the day that a former UND player was going to come and practice with us and tell us about the NHL life, draft day, and what not. Everyone on the team was itching with excitement as to see who it was. The energy and excitement could be clearly felt as soon as you walked in. The guys were all in the team meeting room and I walked in and joined them. I sat down in my yoga pants and tank and looked around at everyone in their workout clothes. The room was buzzing with guesses and anticipation.

Only moments later Coach walked in with a massive grin on his face. “Everyone, this is Jonathan Toews, Captain of the Chicago Blackhawks.” He announced excitedly. Jon walked in and waved awkwardly at us.

“Hey everyone.” He started. “It’s really great to be back here again. I remember when Zach Parise came and did this while I was playing here at UND. Honestly, it’s pretty hard to describe everything accurately because the feeling is something indescribable that can only be properly understood when you feel it. Playing in the NHL is amazing but it’s also a lot of work, pain, and it’s extremely demanding both physically, mentally, and emotionally.” He paused and looked around before turning to Coach and asking, “What are some specifics you want me to go over so that I make sure they get covered?”
Coach thought for a moment before suggesting, “Why don’t some of you give Jon some questions and we will go from there.”

Tray was the first to raise his hand. Somehow this was not surprising. After talking with Jon for about an hour everyone had spoken up at some point except for myself. Apparently that didn’t go unnoticed as I had thought because just then Coach Jay pointed it out, “Meg, I don’t think anyone has ever heard you this quiet before, it’s weird. Got anything you want to know?”

Everyone in the room turned to look at me. I groaned and mentally cursed Coach for putting me on the spot like that. “Ummm not really since, well, the NHL is for guys and all.” I said hoping someone else would have a question for Jon.

Jon looked at me and then said, “This team is also for “guys and all” but you still made it here.” He made air quotes when he copied what I had just said.

“Well thank you Captain Obvious but this level is sure as hell a lot different from NHL level. Additionally, I don’t have any questions for you since the guys pretty much asked every possible last question and then some.” I said back with a smile.

The conversation quickly changed to the draft and before long we were all hitting the ice and Jon came out and joined us. Finally when the day was over I grabbed my stuff and was on my way out when coach stopped me.

“Just so you know, your name is going in the draft this year.” He told me with a serious look on his face.

For a moment I just looked at him before I responded, “My name has been in the draft for two years. But I’m a girl and we are talking about the NHL.” I replied before walking away.

Notes

WOW I feel so awful that its been two months and that after that long of a wait I give you all this awful filler chapter thats super short :(
I'm honestly sorry it took so long but their was soooo much going on but now that its summer I should have a bunch more time.
Also I was suffering from some serious writers block where everything I typed I just hated.
Sorry again but thank you for reading and I hope to update soon!
Also I just posted a new story about Tyler Seguin called "Lie and Tie" so my plan is that I can't update one without updating the other so their should be tons of updates:)
Anyways, please comment, rate, subscribe, and vote <3

@RedRoselaura

I've suffered from some serious writers block. Additionally, I've been insanely busy. I'm going to try to work on it more when I get the file on my new computer. Thanks for the comment. It definetly motivated me, I kind of figured this story was off of everybody's radar by now and that no one would care if I continued or stopped. so thank you. And I will definetly get back to working on this :)
