Madeline Gilmore sat in her luxurious suite of a room, glued to the NHL Network. "We have head scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs here Tyler Gilmore, Tyler you played about 1,000 NHL games and were drafted, by the leafs 25-30 years ago what is like to be here today." Kathryn Tappen said as she smiled at her dad. "It's fun every year to come to the draft and see these kids hard work pay off. I remember being drafted in the first round and it was a hell of a show. So we're excited to get going." He said seeming uncomfortable. Her dad didn't like doing interviews, he hated them. "Now your daughter Madeline has some connections to this draft, she's usually here every year why is she not here?" He looked directly at the screen like he was staring into her soul. "She's grounded, you know teenagers. She loves the draft and yes her boyfriend is predicted to go in the top five overall but she's grounded. He'll see her when he leaves Philadelphia." She hated him. So what if she came home drunk, she always helped out at the Leafs table during the draft, and Aaron was being drafted.

"Beep...Beep...Beep." Her phone beeped as she looked down at it. "Miss you.-Aaron." The fact that Aaron Ekblad always sent her texts from Aaron, or A or your boyfriend even though she knew who it was made her smile every time. "I am sorry I couldn't be there on the most important day of your life." She clicked sent. Almost immediately he sent her back a text. "Babe it doesn't matter, you'll be watching. I just wish I could kiss you right now.-Aaron." She laughed. She wished she could kiss him too. They met at a Barrie Colts three years ago, even though she was two years older then him they fell instantly in love. He was socially awkward at times, but he loved her. He was adorable and hers.

"I wish you were here girl! Misssss you." Claudia Lemieux texted her. "I wish I was there too girl! Keep an eye on Aaron for me! And tell Brendan I love him!" Brendan was her best friend. Ugh she wished she could be there for them right now. "Honey, the draft is about to start do you want to watch it with me downstairs?" Gabrielle Gilmore said knocking and coming in. Mads looked like her dad, while her brothers looked like her mom. You could tell she was beautiful back in the day sunkissed tan skin, freckles, long blondish brownish hair, good body up until she had three kids, and long legs. "Yeah, are the guys home?" Tyler Jr, Jack and her watched the draft every year together from the leaf table but since she couldn't go her brothers stayed home too. "Yup they brought home pizza." She was so hungry. "Perfect." She said throwing one of Aaron's Barrie Colts sweatshirts on for good luck. "Here we go!!!!' As the Florida Panthers scout team walked up to the stage Madeline started to cry. "We proudly select with our first pick overall in the 2014 NHL Draft from the Ontario Hockey League Aaron Ekblad." She started balling. "OMG OMG OMG." Her big brothers said as the freaked out. She was so fucking proud of him. "We know a first overall draftee." Jack said hugging Tyler. "Jack you are a 2nd overall draftee so you know a 1st overall." She said wiping the tears away. "And Tyler is a 4th so stawp." She said joking. Duh her father would draft Tyler and duh he tried to draft Jack but the Tampa Bay Lightning got to him first. "I am so proud of you baby I love you so much, can't wait to go to the Prospect camp with you on Monday see you at the airport!" She texted him. He would call her a little later back at the hotel.

She watched as the first round ended and Brendan had not gotten drafted yet. "Hey bud love you, tomorrow is a new day!" She said as Aaron called her. "AHHHHHH BABY." She said as he screamed at the top of his lungs with her. "I owe a little to you, your my rock babe." Aaron said. All she wanted to do was wrap her arms around his neck and kiss him. "See you monday." She said closing her eyes. "I can't wait for Monday." He said as they said their goodbyes. She fell asleep to the sound of her own heart beating. Everything was perfect.
