Shaybu!

Chapter 1

Patrice made his way into the arena, where he greeted the other Canadian players, gathered there already. The captain, Sidney Crosby had his arms folded and was wearing a scowling frown. He eyed his players up and down, suspiciously. His eyes rested onto Patrice, giving him a thorough look.

“Well, well, well, the Bruin is finally here! Where are those bloody Blackhawks though?”

Patrice shook his head, ignoring the menacing tone and instead mingling with the others, who welcomed him kindly.

Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews, minus their American buddy Patrick Kane rushed forward toward the group.

“Sorry. Sorry. Sharpie, was a little scared!”

"Tazer wouldn’t cooperate!”

“Whatever! I don’t care! If you are already going to be goofing off, you might as well go home!”

“Oh, lighten up, Sids. Geez. This is meant to be a fun little competition, not a fight for the Stanley Cup!” Patrice laughed. “Trust me, I’ve been here before.”

“So have I. Mind you, our team in Vancouver sucked in leadership!”

“Shut up, Sids, we won the gold and we can sure as hell do it again. Plus the Americans don’t have that Bobby Ryan fella, aye!” Ryan Getzlaf shot, elbowing his teammate, Corey Perry in the shoulder.

"Yes, yes, I got it!" Corey Perry grumbled, looking away.

“But there is always Kaner.” Jonathan stated.

“Eh, Kaner is going down!” Patrick Sharp proclaimed. “I’m going to make him look silly in the first game and score a goal!”

“Sharpie!” Jonathan scolded.

“Wonderful. Now that we’re all such great friends, let’s go!” Sidney growled, rolling his eyes.

Patrice bounced forward and slapped Sidney on the arm. “Hey, lighten up, buddy. You’re acting like a real buzzkill.”

“Thanks for the information Bergeron.”

“Sidney!”

“I’m the damn captain and what I say goes!”

“Not if we give a damn about you!” someone (Drew Doughty) snapped.

“You want to say that to my face!” Sidney snarled, whipping around, his eyes ablaze with fury.

“Settle down, Sids!” Patrice laughed and skipped ahead. "What is wrong with you? You weren't exactly peachy in Vancouver either!"

"Why do you think? I'm playing with enemies!"

"Why are you captain then?"

"Because I'm better than Tazer!"

"That's a lame answer Sids."

"I didn't ask for your opinion Bergeron!"

"Ok, whatever."

"At least I don't have to deal with that impeccable pest of yours!"

Patrice heaved a heavy sigh. "Don't go there, Sid!"

"Why not?"

"Please don't make me fight you, Sidney. Let's get to the rink instead!"

"Why? Are you, the mighty Patrice Bergeron, scared to fight me?"

Patrice narrowed his eyes and clenched his fists together. "Let's. Get. To the. Rink. Sidney."

Sidney rolled his eyes and pushed past Corey Perry, to "lead" the team to the rink.

"What an ass!" Corey hissed, as Patrice steadied him.

"Yeah, well that ass is our captain, unfortunately!" Patrice replied.

He let go of Corey, who turned to his Anaheim team captain, Ryan Getzlaf.

"I think we should issue a complaint and request a new captain!" Corey stated, brushing himself off.

"Like Tazer?" Patrick Sharp questioned, shoving his teammate and linemate forward.

Jonathan shook his head. "I think the Bruin should be the captain. He has experience after all!"

"Thank you, Jonathan, but you also would be a great candidate, as would Ryan Getzlaf."

"I couldn't accept it over you. If the staff asked if I was okay with being the captain, I'd be flattered yes, but I would kindly decline and nominate you!" Ryan exclaimed.

"We should probably get to the rink, otherwise Sids will have an even bigger tantrum!" Marty St. Louis suggested.

"You're right, Marty!" Jonathan agreed.

The group of forwards and Duncan Keith made their way toward the locker room, where they mixed in with the others there.

Sidney stood off to the side with his arms folded. He wore a sinister smirk and frowned at the group of players that made up team Canada. His fellow Penguin teammate, Chris Kunitz, joined him. "Can you believe this, Kuns?" Sidney muttered, "These are all enemies. Every single one of them can hurt us and make us bleed."

Chris scowled and nodded.

"You see that Bruin over there?" Sidney continued, flicking his head in the direction of Patrice Bergeron, who sat and chatted kindly with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, as they laced up their skates and taped their sticks up.

Patrice looked like he was enjoying himself. He glanced up and spotted the two Penguin forwards chatting to themselves with judgmental miens. He excused himself and walked up to them. "Sid, Kunsy, why are you acting like total punks? It's the Olympics, man and you should be willing to play with others, even if they are NHL enemies for your country. We are representing Canada right now in Sochi, what higher honor can a man have, aye?" Patrice questioned, smiling sweetly.

Sidney had had enough of Patrice's kindness and blissfulness. He shoved the star centre away. "Go away Bruin!" Sidney snarled. "I would rather get hit in the face by a puck than play alongside the likes of you or anyone!"

"Yeah!" Chris chimed.

Patrice looked at them, speechless. He furrowed his brow in anger. "Fine, I can have that arranged then!"

"Good. Do it! Shoot a puck toward the net so hard that it knocks me out so that I can get the hell out of here and return to Pittsburgh!"

"I can't believe you Sidney. I can't believe that you aren't going to attempt to befriend me." Patrice choked out. "I'm trying to put aside my own rivalrous attitude and be friendly."

"Whatever." Sidney rolled his eyes again.

Patrice turned and walked back to the two Anaheim Ducks, who welcomed him and patted him nicely. "You tried, Bergy."

Patrice heaved a heavy sigh and carried on his conversation with them.

Sidney turned to his fellow Penguin, "When I tell you to, take out the Bruin...we'll see who the real “tough guy” is around here!"

Chris nodded his head vigorously. Sidney smirked and they both started to cackle.

"Wait!" Chris suddenly gasped, the corners of his mouth twisting into a dark grin. "What if we don't do it ourselves. What if we have someone else do it. That way we won't be caught..."

"Awe, Kuns, you always have to ruin my evil plans with a smart suggestion!"

"I just think it will be better for the both of us though!"

"So what do you have in mind then?"

"Orps said he had a guy who was here in Sochi, close by, that could be of beneficial aid."

"Really? Who? Who? Tell me!"

"Well they call him the Human Dominator or so it translates to English as such!"

"Ooh I'm digging the name. He sounds like he would be able to take down the awful Bruin captain as well!"

"I say we contact him and let him take care of the little pain-in-the-neck warrior!" Chris Kunitz knit his fingers together, cleverly.

Sidney pondered the idea and finally grinned, nodding. "After the practice, you and I will go ahead over to meet him. Send Orps a message to let him know too. It's time for his payback against the miserable bears!"

"Agreed...!" Chris let his smile slip for a few minutes, before he split from Sidney and walked off.

The others quickly began to disperse as well. They headed toward the practice rink, so that their coach could figure out what lines had what players.

Patrice found himself on a line between John Tavares and Marty St. Louis, who switched with Jamie Benn. Patrice couldn't help but ask Jamie about his old linemate. It was a relief to hear that Tyler was doing great. He had always had a warm, sweet spot for the kid. It was a shame he had to fall victim to the summer trade.

Moving on from that, Patrice got acquainted with the other players. He scanned the ice and spotted Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry chatting with Drew Doughty and Duncan Keith.

He enjoyed hanging out with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. He knew they had a tight chemistry which was often compared to Patrice’s own partnership with Brad Marchand.

Patrick Sharp and Jamie Benn skated up and joined in the conversation. Patrice continued to look around and saw Jonathan Toews skating around, stick-handling a puck masterfully with his blade.

He had always admired Jonathan Toews and his leadership. His smart decisions and sole power to lead his teammates reminded Patrice of himself. Jonathan was young, in his mid-20s, but he had the wisdom of an experienced, older man. If Jonathan and Patrice were teammates, Patrice couldn’t help but think that the leadership qualities would go down in NHL history.

The 28 year old Bruin skated to a halt.

He spotted Sidney, who was busy chatting with his Pittsburgh teammate, purposefully poke his stick out and trip the Blackhawks’ captain up. Jonathan crashed to the ice face first. Sidney turned to him, instantly shutting up.

"What the hell, man?" Jonathan snapped, scrambling back to his skates.

"What the hell yourself? You've got to be more aware and cautious, Toews!" Sidney barked back. “I was simply standing here, chatting with Kunzy. You tripped over my stick. You are clearly diving and that’s frowned upon buddy.”

Look who’s talking, Patrice shook his head. He was a little miffed. He watched as Jonathan took a threatening skate step toward the Penguin.

"What is your problem, Sidney?"

"I don't got to talk to you! You aren't on my line. Right, Kunzy?"

Chris Kunitz looked down and shuffled his feet, awkwardly. He nodded, loyally though.

"Un-frickin-believable!" Jonathan rolled his eyes and skated off, toward Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Jamie Benn, Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, and his buddy Patrick Sharp, who were deep in conversation with one another. Ryan was cracking up and Corey looked like he was nervous or embarrassed. Patrick looked like he was enjoying himself. he elbowed Ryan, gently.

"Don't forget, Toews that it was you who agreed to have me named captain. You said you were all for it!" Sidney coyly remarked, elbowing Chris.

Patrice saw Jonathan stiffen up and stop, before continuing on, choosing to ignore the Penguin. Sidney began to snicker. Chris joined him, half-heartedly. He looked more nervous and unsure. Patrice was beginning to question if Chris's heart was really in sync with Sidney’s, or if he wanted to actually fly freely.

"What are you staring at Bergeron? Get back to work! If we are going to win gold, we ALL have to chip in!" Sidney had a disgusted look on his face, like he was a popular girl who had just bumped into a less popular girl.

What an ass! Patrice thought and turned away from the arrogant guy.

The group survived practice, even though Sidney took to the side and ordered the new members around. Jonathan and Patrice hung out together, feeling sympathy for Toews's teammate, Patrick Sharp, who was repeatedly getting abused by the Pittsburgh captain.

"He may be a pain-in-the-ass to me, but Sharpie would never be this cruel and neither would I!" Jonathan sighed to Patrice, as they skidded to a halt to see Sidney deliberately trip up Patrick.

Sidney then purposefully swung his stick up and high-sticked him in the face. Patrick began to bleed from his mouth and nose. He screamed in agony.

“Get up and try again!” Sidney commanded.

Jonathan cringed. "This isn't right, man! Where's coach!?"

"He won't arrive until later!" Patrice replied.

"Get up, Sharp! You're not being so sharp now! I said get up!" Sidney shrieked.

Patrick wiped his mouth on his jersey sleeve and scrambled to his skates. He was worried and freaked out.

"Sid, is this really necessary?" Chris asked, bravely.

"How else is he going to handle the tough competition? After all, his pathetic excuse for a captain obviously didn't teach him how to properly play hockey!" Sidney sarcastically remarked.

"But--"

"Shoot the puck, Sharp!" Sidney barked.

Patrick nervously scooped up a puck and pathetically shot it toward the goal. It slid and barely touched the post for the goal.

"What the hell was that? What are you, playing in the minor leagues?" Sidney scoffed.

"I-I-I'm sorry, Sidney!" Patrick stammered.

"That's it! I've had it up to here with Sidney Crosby and his bullying!" Jonathan spat.

"Johnny, don't do anything that you'll regret!" Patrice cautioned.

Too late.

Jonathan charged forward and launched himself straight at Sidney. He tackled him and they crashed to the ice.

"Leave Sharpie alone!" Jonathan growled, wrapping Sidney in a headlock.

Patrice shook his head, worriedly.

"Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks! Get off of your captain, immediately!" A voice boomed.

The team Canada coach, Mike Babcock, emerged from the tunnel, behind Patrice and looked irate.

"Coach--"

"Don't start with me, young man. I want you to take a seat on the bench."

Sidney began to cry and act like a victim. His best role. "He jumped me. I was just instructing Patrick on how to best shoot the puck into the goal, when his teammate attacked me for no reason!"

"That's bullshit!" Jonathan whined.

Patrick looked away, hiding his face. He was too scared to speak up or do anything.

"Mr. Toews I don't want to hear anymore. If we are going to win the gold again, then we've got to put aside our hatred for each other and work as one, right Sidney?"

"Absolutely, sir!" Sidney acknowledged, respectively.

Patrice skated off. He felt ill. Sidney was a faker. He was a damn actor! And….once again, someone fell for Sidney's act.

Notes

Oh good Lord, Sidney Crosby tone it down lol
Tazer shouldn't have ever agreed to let him be the captain of Canada.

@EvelynaKitty
With the talent I see in this fanfiction, I know you will do great things in life. Hopefully, you will be the one to write Bergeron's tale. (And yes, he's going down in NHL and Bruins history!)

@BergeronSmithKrug
Thank you so much. I am really looking to connect with the audience and receive feedback from people on the descriptions and fluidity. I ultimately want to use the fan fiction tales to translate into an original novel. I also want to be the one who writes Bergy's documentary tale, since he's DEFINITELY going down in NHL history. (More than Sidney...haha)

This was sooooooo good

@BergeronSmithKrug
Only Boston fans unfortunately know that Looch is a big softy off the ice. Hell yes to that! Crosby would fit right in and Alex Burrows can join him. That biter! lol

I wouldn't doubt that Looch would be friends with Blackhawks. He might be ruthless on the ice, but off the ice most Bruins are big softies. Hell yeah!! Crosby is a pansy when it comes to hockey, he should really be a soccer player because he dives so much and is a diva!!
