"Kaylynn, just answer the damn phone." Sam sighed, sitting on her front steps.

Kaylynn froze at the top of the walk way. Sam was sitting on her stairs with his head down. She took a deep breath and continued down it. Sam looked up when he heard the crunch of the snow under her boots. He stood up as she came over. He went to speak.

"Sam, just," She put a finger over his mouth.

She placed her cold hands on either side of his face. His eyes were watering from the cold, but hers were watering from the thought of him leaving her. She leaned in, pressing her lips to his. He held her close as she kissed him. She pulled away slowly.

"Come in and we'll talk, okay? We'll calmly talk." She said and gave him a small smile.

He smiled and kissed her again. She led him inside. They took off their winter wear. Kaylynn told Sam to take a seat while she got him a tea. She really just needed time to think.

She wanted to be with Sam. She really did. She just remembered the hurt with Mack. Yeah, Sam and Mack were completely different people, but the situation wasn't different. She would have to be alone while the person she cared most about was gone far once again. She didn't think she could do it.

She turned up the thermostat as she walked into the living room with their tea. She placed it down on the table before sitting beside Sam. He wrapped an arm around her to keep her close. She cuddled into him with a sigh.

"So, you made a team in a different city." She breathed. "A different city that's far away."

"Really far." He frowned.

"That's in a different time zone." She dropped her head on his shoulder.

His rested on hers. "But this isn't the Stone Age so we have ways to communicate and get to each other." He teased.

She rolled her eyes. "I just don't know if I can." She sat up. "This is the same as when Mack moved here."

"Can you please stop comparing me to Mack?" He growled. "Sure, this didn't work out with Mack but I'm not Mack. I can promise I'll be handling this a lot differently than him. I worked to get you and I'm not going to let you just get away."

"Sam," She smiled, grabbing his hand.

"I'm serious, Kay. I want to make this work no matter where I am." He grabbed both of her hands, staring into her eyes. "Kaylynn, I think I love you."

Her smile fell. "Don't." She spat. He let go of her hands. "I mean, don't say this to me when you're about to leave me."

"When else am I supposed to say it?" He furrowed his brows. "I love you, Kay. I don't want you to leave me."

"I don't want you to leave either but you are." She hissed. "You're leaving to do what you love and I'll support you all the way but I can't stay with you while you aren't here. It isn't fair to me."

He nodded and stood. "I'll let myself out."

"Please don't make me out to be the bad guy." She frowned.

"What you're doing doesn't exactly make you the person of the year." He shook his head before he walked out.

Kaylynn growled as the door closed.

Sam was hurt. He was heartbroken. Never had Sam felt this way towards a girl and Kaylynn didn't even seem to care. It wasn't his fault that she came along at a bad time in his life. But he still wanted to make it work

He wasn't driving home. He wasn't going to confide in a friend. He was going to find the one person that seemed to be ruining everything for him.

He parked his car and climbs out. He walked up to the front door and knocked. It opened slowly but there was the person he wanted to see. Sam was face to face with Mack.

"Man, congrats on the team!" Mack grinned.

"Don't act like my friend." Sam hissed.

"What?"

"Ever since Kaylynn came into my life, you've been ruining it for me!" Sam screamed. "The first fucking day I laid eyes on her, she was more excited about you!"

"Sam,"

"I love her and she just broke my heart because when you left her, you didn't come back for her! You fucking up is being used against me!" He continued.

"If she's choosing to let the past effect you and her, that isn't me." Mack defended himself. "I'm sorry she doesn't want to work it out but that's not me."

Sam took a deep breath. "Just take care of her for me when I'm gone. Please?"

Mack nodded. "If a guy like you isn't around to treat that girl the way she deserves, I'll make sure no other guys come around until you're back."
