The Wall

Well Heeled

Hadlee Reynolds couldn't believe the morning she had in court. Was it even possible that her clients were getting more stupid with each hour that passed. Everyone at the law firm liked to tease Hadlee about how stupid southerners were, well these Yankees had it in spades. Hadlee however learned to keep her opinions to herself as she was the newest attorney at the law firm. She opened the door of the Suffolk County Superior Court and was immediately met with a blast of heat. Summer in Boston wasn't as hot as end of summer in Kentucky but it was miserable none the less. Hadlee had time to grab a quick drink and get back to court before the call of the 1 pm docket. Hadlee walked the short distance to the Red Barn Roasters. Hadlee pulled out her phone and began returning texts and emails as she waited her turn to order. She ordered a large peach ice tea. Once served she headed out the door pushing her large Coach bag back on her shoulder looking at her iPhone as if it held the secret to world peace. Hadlee cleared the door and turned back towards the court house. She had no idea what she had ran into but it felt like hitting a brick wall.
Hadlee was less than lady like sprawled on a Boston sidewalk. The brick wall in question extended his hand towards Hadlee and for the second time in less than minute Hadlee had the wind knocked out of her. The guy was huge compared to Hadlee over 6 feet and solid muscle. He was dripping with sweat in a pair of athletic shorts and a black t shirt. Hadlee recognized the spoked B logo from Boston's local hockey team. The more important fact he was absolutely gorgeous without being pretty. Hadlee regained her footing only to realize that the heel on her left shoe was broken. The brick wall was apologizing profusely.
"Oh hell" muttered Hadlee as she pulled the broken shoe off her foot. She had to be in court in less than 15 minutes.
"I'll buy you a new pair" said the wall
"No time" replied Hadlee and she pulled her other shoe off. "Break the heel off this one too."
"What?" He asked dumbfounded
"Break the damn heel of that one and they will both be flats. I can wear them over to the court house to my car and get my spare pair."
Kevan Miller stared at the small woman standing before him. He was unsure of what to do but took the small black high heeled shoe from her. He snapped the heel off the shoe and handed it back. She shoved her feet back into the now ruined shoes. She gathered the items that fell out of a purse bigger than her and shoved them back in the bag. As Hadlee turned to leave a smaller guy with the same outfit as the wall jogged up. The wall was still apologizing as Hadlee was trying to make a break for the court house.
"Bless your heart. It was an accident don't worry about it I'm fine" replied the small blonde. She made Marchand look tall. That meant she was even littler than he thought only about 5 feet tall. When he had knocked her down her blonde hair had began to come undone from it's sleek ponytail. It made him wonder what it would look like if he pulled the band the rest of the way out. She was wearing a short but professional looking black skirt, a tailored charcoal shirt, and a suit jacket. The most striking thing about the girl were her eyes they were huge and the color of a worn chambray shirt. She looked like one of those Disney princesses. What the fuck is wrong with me thought Kevan.
"Millsy" called Brad Marchand "move your ass." Marchand was checking out the girl. She was hot no doubt about it and he had less than a minute before Brad said or did something obnoxious.
"You are sure you are alright?" He asked again.
" I' m fine, my shoes toasted. I can't be late for court. Don't worry about it." Brad asked him what happened. He turned to explain what was going on to Marchy. After explaining about him squashing the poor girl coming out of the coffee shop and dealing with Marchy's teasing he turned around and she was gone.
"Fuck! I didn't even get her name" he said out loud to no one in particular.
"Nope, better." replied Brad "she dropped her phone. She will have to call someone to get get it. So either nut up and take it with us or give it to the counter in the coffee shop."
Damned if the midget wasn't right. He looked at the iPhone it was housed in a sparkly University of Kentucky case with lil diamond looking paw prints. That was unusual in for Boston. Thinking back he remember that she seemed to have a decidedly southern accent. He plucked the phone from the ground from where her drink had spilled. He definitely owed her a pair of shoes and a drink. Now he just had to wait.
