The Wall

Deke was dancing around Kevan's feet as he finished making his protein shake. Kevan started the Keurig for Hadlee. He could hear the iPhone playing as she got ready for court. They both had to be to work by 10am. Kevan was packed and dressed for practice. He dreaded leaving her and Deke. Kevan then noticed the pup was no longer at his feet. He ventured through the apartment looking for Deke. He stopped at the door of the bathroom when he heard Hadlee talking to the puppy.

"I thought your daddy was watching you." She said as she scooped him up. She put a towel over her lap and sat the pup in her lap. "Sit, Deke." The lil ball of fluff was wriggling around in her lap. "It's just me and you this week Deke. Well Kk and Caro will be here. You and I won't have time to miss Kevan. He will be home before we know it. We're gonna go visit the cheerleaders. They will love you." Hadlee finished putting on her make up. When she looked down Deke was asleep in her lap. "Guess I am boring" mused Hadlee.

"Nope" said Kevan from the door way "it's totally Deke he fell asleep on one of my Chucks earlier. I think he is lazy."

"Shut it Miller, you'll give him self esteem problems" she laughed. Kevan stalked across the bathroom floor. He smiled down at Hadlee. She had him carry a kitchen stool in the bathroom so she had a place to sit and do he make up. Hadlee had told him the low counter was a perfect make up vanity it just need a stool. He was studying her in a very serious manner. She had her hair twisted up ready for court. Her make up was mostly done but she had yet to put on her lipstick.

"What are you staring at Kevan" she asked. He smirked at her and put Deke on the pile of Hadlee's clothes. Deke sniffed and went back to sleep. Kevan pulled her to her feet and wrapped his arms around her.

"Your mouth" he said as he fused his to hers. Kevan's hands slid up to cradle her head. He was careful not to muss her up too badly as he kissed her. Hadlee gasped and Kevan deepened the kiss. He was going to miss this. The mess in his bathroom, the sounds of Hadlee in his life, and being able to kiss her when ever he wanted. He pulled away from her before he got carried away. He had not shaved and he definitely didn't want to leave marks on her.

Hadlee was survey the damage in the mirror. She glared at him. He smiled at her in the mirror. "What you hadn't even put on your lipstick" Hadlee was still attempting to look mad in the mirror, but he knew she wasn't mad. "I checked." He replied. Kevan picked up Deke and strolled out of the bathroom. Hadlee sighed and fixed her lips. He had walked in kissed her stupid and stole her puppy. And she loved every minute of it.

Kevan and Deke were on the couch watching SportsCenter. She noticed Kevan on the phone. Probably Brad. She saw her UK travel mug on the counter and an English muffin with peanut butter and jelly on the counter. Kevan had a blender cup in front of him with a green substance in it. Hadlee picked it up and smelled it. How could any human drink kale. She put her pbj muffin in her purse and sat her mug by her keys. She heard Kevan say her name and turned around to listen to what was being said. Kevan asked the person on the phone to hold on.

"Hey Babe, how serious were you about babysitting Gears." he asked "he can't go on the road trip. He tweaked his shoulder. So he has to stay here and get to a few medical appointments and practice. The kid doesn't drive here yet."

"Poor Baby K" she replied "Of course he can hang out with us. Caroline works nights, Kayleigh is done by 1pm, and I can work most times out at work. We can get him where he needs to be."

"No problem, Krejc" said Kevan. Kevan listened to Krejci explaining everything that needed to be done.
"Text the details. I will get them to Hadlee. Tell him to pack what he needs to stay here and one of the girls will grab him from the rink." Kevan extended his phone to Hadlee. She told Krejci that they were happy to help Baby K. Kevan laughed when Hadlee said yeah I know don't get him wet and don't feed him after midnight. He then laughed harder at Hadlee trying to explain Gremlins to the Czech. Kevan took his phone back and finished his conversation with Krejci.

Hadlee was sitting across from him carefully buckling her shoes. He disconnected the phone as she got to her feet. She was collecting her phone, her sunglasses, and was looking for something she couldn't find. Kevan handed her reading glasses and file off the side table, he had covered them with newspaper. He chugged the rest of his drink and put the glass in the dishwasher. Kevan got Deke into his crate. He knew they both needed to leave soon. He could get used to her being here every day. Hadlee was slowly moving in with him. He hoped to expedite the process. Kevan was standing in the living room watching ESPN. Hadlee came out of his room putting on earrings. Attorney Hadlee was beautiful but he still preferred her in one of his shirts.

Hadlee came up behind Kevan and wrapped her arms around him. She rested her head on his back. She squeezed him tight. She didn't want to leave for court but needed to get there early. "I wish I could take you to practice." she said into his back.

Kevan pulled her from behind him. "I know." he replied "but my hot lawyer girlfriend needs to be at court and not chauffeuring around the Bruins 4th line defenseman." He kissed her gently careful not to mess up her glossy mouth. "I love you Hadlee."

"Love you too Miller." She said gathering all her things. "Kick ass, stay out of the box, and be careful." He kissed her again. "You got it babe." He grabbed his bags and followed her out the door. He handed her his truck keys. She looked at him questioningly.

"Your car is at your place so take mine. Brad will grab me in a few minutes." He explained.

"I can't drive this tank."

Kevan laughed he guessed compared to her Fiat his Tahoe was a tank. "Okay then I guess I will drop you off at the courthouse on my way."

"I don't want to make you late." she said

"I've got time Hadlee Belle. And if I didn't I'd make time. You text the squirrel." He replied as they climbed in his truck. She texted Brad. She explained what Kevan was doing and wished him luck. He then told her that Kayleigh would pick her up after court. "You got it all straight" asked Kevan.

"Yes, sir" she replied. They made it to the courthouse in short order. Hadlee didn't want to leave him. She leaned across the console and kissed him. Kevan got out of the SUV and walked around to open her door. He helped her down and pulled her into a hug.

"Love ya Babe" he said as he held her close "I'll be home in 4 days. Try not to spoil Gears or Deke while I'm gone."

"No promises, Miller" she called over her shoulder " love you. Don't start any fights!"

Hadlee noticed some one fell into step with her. She saw Judge Cavenaugh. She smiled at Hadlee.

"I didn't realize the Bruins made deliveries Miss Reynolds."

"Only when they are leaving for 4 days."

"First long road trip?" Asked the judge.
"Yes Ma'am" replied Hadlee

"Well I plan to keep you so busy you won't have time to miss Miller too much." Hadlee laughed and silently hoped time flew.

"Good" said Hadlee " hopefully between court, Deke, and Baby K the time will fly"

"Deke" asked the judge as they entered the elevator.

"Kevan got me a mini husky puppy for my birthday." She explained.

"Is Baby K a cat?" Teased the judge.

"Nope" laughed Hadlee " that would be the Bruins rookie Pastrnak. We call him Baby K because he plays like Krejci. The boys call him Gears. He tweaked a shoulder so he is stuck here doing medical and practice. So we get to spoil him."

"Court begins in 15 minutes, Miss Reynolds." stated the judge "have all your charges lined out before we get in there. And tell Mr. Miller they better beat the Isles."

"Yes your honor." replied Hadlee. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. Hadlee texted the girls and made plans for the night. The girls were all excited about having Baby K with them for the week. Kayleigh was going to pick him up from the arena and head to bakery. They all agreed to meet at Kevan's around 6.
