The Wall

Hadlee and Kevan walked through the parking garage to his SUV. Once inside he lowered the volume on the stereo he looked over at Hadlee who was pushing her sunglasses down over nose. He thought she looked young. He mentally did the math college plus law school he knew she had to be at least 24. He decided that her stature made her seem younger. Then he realized he was kind of staring at her and threw the vehicle into drive.

"Do you know where you are going? I've only been here 3 months and so far I've found my office, the courthouse, my apartment, Clarkes, and 30 coffee joints."

He looked at Hadlee her oversized sunglasses were taking up most of her beautiful faces he noticed she had kicked off her shoes and had one foot underneath her the other foot dangling in time to the music in the background. Her toes were polished a bright UK blue. When had he ever noticed a nail polish color?
"I know my way around I moved here when I was 16. Played high school hockey here. Then went to the University if Vermont to play. Landed in Providence with the Bruins, then got called up."

"So your family is here in Massachusetts?" asked Hadlee "you don't sound like you're from Boston."

"I moved when I was 16. The family stayed in Santa Clarita California. I played in an elite high school league. Got a scholarship to Vermont. Played hard until I was named Captain. Played even harder and eventually made the NHL"

"Aww you were a baby when you left home." said Hadlee " so you have no family here? What do you do at the holidays?"

Kevan continued towards the mall and explained he played hockey through most holidays with very limited breaks. He explained his family came out when they could and he saw them quite a bit during the California games. He noticed she was frowning. "It's not all bad Hadlee I get to play hockey. The Bruins have a big Christmas party for the families. We have an awesome Halloween party. Plus Britt has almost figured out how to make thanksgiving without poisoning anyone."

Hadlee smiled "you've mentioned Brittt before you seem to like her."

"Yeah she is really a nice person and she loves Looch. God knows how an ape like him ended up with her. They have a beautiful daughter. Britt tries to make everyone feel welcome."

"You called your teammate an ape?"

"Wait until you meet Looch he might be the missing link in the evolutionary chain. He's a super nice guy but a beast on the ice. Looch gives me hope that I might find a hot blonde of my own."

Kevan motioned towards the shoppes where he parked the SUV. "This store was Britt's idea. Apparently Jimmy Choo knows girly shoes." Kevan walked around the front of the SUV and opened the door as Hadlee pushed her feet back in her Toms. "You know Jimmy Choo is chick, right?"

"Nope and I am pretty sure that only Campbell or Marchy might have known that. I'm pretty much Reebok and Under Armor."

Hadlee took Kevan's hand and climbed down out of the SUV. Kevan shut the door but didn't let go of her hand. Hadlee slung her Coach bag back up in her shoulder and interlocked her fingers with his. His hands were rough and calloused. Hadlee was wondering what they would feel like on other parts of her body. Kevan glanced down at their hands and smiled at Hadlee and opened the door to the boutique.
They had no more than came into the boutique when Hadlee's face broke out into a huge smile and she made a small squeaky sound.

"Sorry shoegasm!" she murmured she then began dragging him through the store by the hand. Kevan laughed. He would buy her shoes everyday if she smiled at him like that. Hadlee deposited Kevan in a chair in front of a huge glittery mirror. Yep, still don't belong thought Kevan. Hadlee disappeared amongst the shoes,fluff, and cheetah print. Hadlee threw her Toms at Kevan and announced she was on a mission.

Kevan sat quietly reading on his phone. He watched Hadlee pace back and forth between rows of shoes. Kevan had just started the second book of the Mortal Instruments series, he could amuse himself for hours. The puck bunny from the day before had different plans.

"Back so soon Mr. Miller" she cooed "you could have called. You didn't have to come all this way. I could come to you."

"Uh" was the only thing out of Kevan's mouth before Hadlee came strutting down the aisle.

"Kev, do you think these are too much for court?" Kevan looked at the heels strapped to Hadlee's feet. They were shiny leather with a delicate strap the crossed over her tiny ankles. The body of the shoe appeared to be a soft leopard print. His brain was short circuiting. Hadlee was standing in front of the puck bunny in tiny shorts and fuck me pumps.

"Honey" she said coming closer and putting her foot on his lap "what do you think?"

What did he think? He thought he wanted to see Hadlee in just those shoes. Hadlee took her foot out of his lap.

"Speechless" said Hadlee as she leaned down and kissed him "just what I was going for. Will you unbuckle these babe?" Hadlee put her foot back on his lap. Kevan worked the tiny buckle on the right then left shoes. "Be careful, Love we don't want to break this pair."

The puck bunny stood there behind Hadlee glaring at the back of her head. Several other sales associates had gathered. Kevan wanted to laugh but couldn't.

"Hadlee, you're fucking perfect" and with that statement Hadlee replied "I know."

Hadlee turned the the bunny in question and said "would you be a doll and wrap those up for me. Oh and I need to see something spectacular for my and Kevan's date. I don't plan to wear much else. Bless you're heart he said you were so helpful when he picked up my surprise. I do appreciate it." The girl stomped off with Hadlee's shoes in her hand. Hadlee saw several of the other employees snicker. Hadlee turned back to Kevan "still afraid of the bunny."

"Nope but I'm kind of terrified of your brilliance." Hadlee leaned down and kissed his lips. Kevan returned this kiss and pulled Hadlee into his lap. He tangled his hands in her hair and held her face close to his and deepened the kiss. Kevan's tongue stroked into her mouth. Kevan and Hadlee sat in the chair kissing until they heard a coughing sound. The bunny was glaring at them again.

"I think I like you sitting down MIller. It's easier to kiss you!"

Kevan put his hand in his pocket and adjusted his shorts, with any luck he wouldn't be rock hard by the time they left the store. "I will remain in a seated position at all times, if it makes you happy Hadlee."
Hadlee glanced at him. Looked at his lap and fired back "I'm not the only one who's happy. Too much excitement. I guess I will hide the date shoes."

"I think I need to approve all shoe choices, Hadlee." smirked Kevan

"Not a chance." she smiled

Hadlee turned to the bunny and told her a shoe name and size. She then headed to the counter to pay for the shoes. As Hadlee handed the bunny the gift card Kevan came up behind her and pulled her flush against the front of his body. He held her shoes out in front of her. Hadlee stuck her feet back into her Toms. The lady at the register gave her the remaining balance after the gift card. Kevan went for his wallet.

"Do it and die, Darlin" She turned to face him " it's too much already." Hadlee gave her debit card to the bunny.

Kevan gave her a lopsided smile and held his hands out in front him. After the transaction was complete Hadlee turned to the bunny "we appreciate your help so much. Thank you."

Hadlee turned and handed the bag to Kevan. "No peeking!" Kevan took Hadlee by the hand and walked her to his SUV. He put her package in the floor of the back seat. Hadlee opened her door and stood on the running board. She was still shorter than Kevan but it was less than the normal 14 inch height difference. Hadlee kissed Kevan. She murmured against his mouth "that was fun."

"Which part the shoes, the kissing, or morphing into the Hadlee, the bunny slayer." laughed Kevan.

"If I say all three, will you still come home and order pizza with me." quizzed Hadlee " I'll even promise to be your personal bunny slayer!"

Kevan dropped a kiss on her mouth and said "in that case I will eat pizza and let you pic the show or movie."
"No whining on my couch if you don't like my viewing selection."

"I'll find away to distract myself if I am bored." Kevan started the SUV and headed for her apartment. Kevan was sure that he could keep himself busy with Hadlee's mouth for the duration of the night.
