Act 1: Scene 6

Setting: Blackhawks’ Locker Room at the U.C.
The stage transforms around the two men, Jonathan eventually wanders off stage right. Tyler enters from left stage. He spots Patrick in his dazed state, sitting in his locker space now.

TYLER
Hey man, what happened out there? We can do this without Johnny.

PATRICK
Can we, Segs? Johnny is the heart and soul of the Blackhawks.

TYLER
We must!

PATRICK
But we can’t!

TYLER
But we must! We will be fine.

PATRICK
But----

TYLER
Listen, Kaner, we are the heart and soul of the Chicago Blackhawks too. We can do this.

PATRICK
I suppose you are right.

TYLER
That’s it, Peeks.

PATRICK
So, you trust that I can lead this team to a victory tonight?

TYLER
I know you can! You’ve got this!

PATRICK
Thanks Segs, I needed to hear you say that!

TYLER
Hey, what are liney’s for, right?

PATRICK
Right!

He chuckled softly.

Just then the lights flickered off. Patrick and Tyler stood up they grabbed one another.

TYLER
What’s going on?

PATRICK
I don’t know! It must be Sharpy pulling one of his----ah!

Patrick is grabbed, by someone, as the lights snap back on. Patrick struggles in the hold of John Scott, who has him in a tight hold.

PATRICK
Segs, help me!

TYLER
Hold on! I’ll save you!

JOHN SCOTT
No, you won’t!

He shoves Tyler backward easily. Tyler yelps as he trips over his feet. He crashes to the floor in shock. John shoves Patrick away from him, before whipping out a ton of rope.

JOHN SCOTT
(stalking/circling around Patrick, who holds his ground, bravely)
There's every good reason
For letting you go
She's sneaky and smoked out
And it's starting to show

(Scott stops and gets the rope ready in his hands. He begins to bind Patrick’s wrists together, as he sings:)

JOHN SCOTT
I never let you go
I never let you go
I never let you go

TYLER
(to Patrick)
I’ll never let you turn around,
Your back on each other
That's a good idea,
Break a promise to your mother
Turn around, your back on each other
Um hm.

(He pulls the knot, securing the ropes on Patrick’s wrists.)

PATRICK
(to Scott, as he struggles)
You say that I changed
Well maybe I did
But even if I changed
What's wrong with it?

(Scott finishes tying Patrick up. He turns to Tyler, snatches him up and binds his wrists together now, as he sings:)

JOHN SCOTT
I never let you go
I never let you go
I never let you go

TYLER and PATRICK
I never let you turn around,
Your back on each other
That's a good idea,
Break a promise to your mother
Turn around, your back on each other
Um hm.

(Scott begins to wrap a long rope around both players, binding them back-to-back.)

JOHN SCOTT
And now your friends are gone, are gone
And all the time moves on and on

PATRICK
And all I know is it's wrong, it's wrong

TYLER
And all I know is it's wrong, it's wrong….

JOHN SCOTT
If there's a reason,
It's lost on me

PATRICK and TYLER
Maybe we'll be friends,
I guess we'll see

JOHN SCOTT
I never let you go
I never let you go
I never let you go

PATRICK and TYLER
I never let you turn around,
Your back on each other
That's a good idea,
Break a promise to your mother
Turn around, let's turn on each other
Good idea, break a promise to your mother

Turn around, your back on each other
That's a good idea,
Break a promise to your mother
Turn around, your back on each other
What a good idea

JOHN SCOTT
I remember the stupid things
The mood rings, the bracelets and the beads
Nickels and dimes, yours and mine
Did you cash in all your dreams
You don't dream for me no,
You don't dream for me no!

But I still feel you pulsing like sonar from the days in the waves
That girl is like a sunburn I would like to say
That girl is like a sunburn I would like to say
She's like a sunburn, she's like a sunburn

(Scott leaves them, bound together tightly in the middle of the locker room.)

TYLER
The game! Scott, wait!

Scott stop in place and spins back to them, before exiting to left stage.

JOHN SCOTT
What is it, Seguin?

PATRICK
We’ll miss the game!

JOHN SCOTT
I know that’s the point.

TYLER
You can’t leave us tied up like this!

JOHN SCOTT
I know that’s the point.

PATRICK
No!! That’s cheating! Scott, you’re cheating!

TYLER
Chicago can’t win without us!

JOHN SCOTT
(flashing a clever smirk)
I know that’s the point. Chicago can’t have the Cup….our Cup! It’s Montreal’s!

He walks off left stage.

TYLER
Hey, come back!!

PATRICK
Somebody help us!!

TYLER
Hey!

TYLER and PATRICK
Help!!

The lights shut off on them once more.

Notes

Songs in this:
(Well, you may recognize this one)
Never Let You Go by: Third Eye Blind

I just don't know what to say about this piece anymore. It's a musical, so expect cheesiness, crummy smuttyness....

Hey look its my two favorite damsels in distress, the magical goal scorers and offensive machines, who can't fight!!!! :))))

Comments

I know, I know....This is why there are NO hockey musicals right? It's horrible.... :( Hockey players can't sing, aren't supposed to sing, not angelically at least, maybe rap like Versteeg, but not sing musical numbers....haha :)
