Don't Forget Me

Training

"Almost done" I breathed happily, nearing the end of our run. Jon nodded sternly, still in complete concentration. It was a beautiful July morning, so the pair of us decided to go for a run around the neighbourhood where we had both grown up. Jon's parents were more than happy to take our family in for the summer; that was, until we found a vacation home in the heart of Manitoba.

"How'd i do?" Jon asked, as soon as we arrived back at our starting point. I smiled proudly; he had successfully run a half marathon equvilent, no breaks. "I'm assuming that means great" he grinned, grabbing he Gatorade he had left on the chair and taking a big chug.

"Your goal of a half marathon is accomplished" I informed him between breaths. I didn't even consider the fact I had done it also; I had been running with him since day one of his training. Working out almost everyday, he had made amazing progress. I was happy for another reason too; I never felt better about myself. I felt great all the time, had more energy, and my body looked amazing.

"Thanks babe" he grinned, wrapping his arm around me. We both made our way into the house, exhausted. Quickly showering, we climbed back into bed, sighing in comfort once our heads hit the pillow. Jon's parents were taking the kids to the beach, giving us time to recover from our giant run.

The past few months had been nothing short of amazing. As soon as Jon was able to start working out things started looking up. Gabby finished the seventh grade, moving into grade eight; Ryder and Aveyah both had their own milestones too.

Sydney had her twin boys, naming them Parker and Matthew Crawford, and Emma and Patrick seemed happier than ever. For the first time in awhile, things began going smoothly for all parties. Besides the Hawks getting embarrassed by the Canucks in the first round of the playoffs, things had been perfect. After game four, Jon vowed he would be there next year, to help the team hoist the cup in the city it truly belonged.

Despite not needing Emma to care for Jon anymore, she definitely was around a lot. In fact, she practically lived downstairs with Patrick, to which we didn't mind at all. As much as we loved the both of them, the dream to have the house with just us and the kids was still there.

"Shit" I mumbled, suddenly feeling really queezy. I made a dash for the master suite, barely making it in time. It wasn't long after I began to puke my guts out Jon joined me on the bathroom floor, gently rubbing my back.

"Seems like déjà vu, doesn't it?" Jon teased, referring to my two previous pregnancies. My eyes went wide with worry; I hadn't had my period in over three months! I was so busy I hadn't even taken notice. I knew the possibility of me being pregnant was large; I wasn't on birth control and we certainly didn't use precaution.

"Think I'm pregnant again?" I moaned in displeasure. Jon shrugged, pulling a pregnancy test out of the cabinet behind him.

"I had a feeling" he smiled meekly, patting my back, flushing the toilet, and closing the bathroom door gently behind him. I smiled weakly, happy at his thoughtfulness.

As soon as the door clicked shut I wasted no time; I knew it would be the longest few minutes of my life. He seemed to go all out with the test; it was one of the ones that showed you how many weeks along you were. I waited patiently, tapping my foot as I waited. The idea of having another child didn't scare me; despite already having three. I felt a little bummed my body would be harder to come back from this time around, and Jon would insist I slow down and not train with him.

"So?" he asked, trying hard to keep his eyes open. It was obvious how exhausted he was.

"Child number four!" I grinned, rushing into his hug. "Three months along" I informed him, immediately thinking of making a doctors appointment. Was the baby healthy? Doing okay? Would we be having a boy or a girl? Thinking of my activities and dieting, I was being extremely healthy.

"Wow" he breathed, a little nervously.

"Why are you nervous?" I asked cocking my head to the side.

"I don't want to miss this one" he murmured, a big worry in his eye. We both snuggled closely, thinking about the tragic event that was his accident over a year ago. I knew if it happened again, I would never be able to cope.

"You won't Jon" I spoke softly. "You'll be here for him or her.. I know it" and with that we both dozed off.

*********************************************************************************************************************

"What do you think?" Jon asked me, looking around the vacation home. I looked around, smiling and nodding. It was perfect; it was on the water, a nice dock extended for swimming into the river it sat on. It had four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and tons of storage space. It was basic enough to classify as a cottage, or a summer home; and I loved it.

"Let's go for it" I grinned happily.

"Great! Let's get to all the paper work" Ernie, the real estate agent clapped happily, leaving us in the kitchen for a moment. Jon and I eyed each other excitedly; we would be able to move in right away, giving us a great project for the rest of the summer. The kids would be ecstatic; it was right on the water, and the plan to get a raft out and purchase a boat, would make them all jump.

It didn't take long before Jon and I were headed back to Jon's parents, the new key to our vacation home in hand. Not only did we have this news, but we also had the news of our latest pregnancy; and what we both decided would be our last. Four kids was more than enough; making sure we gave our all to all of them.

"Ready?" Jon asked, turning the SUV off once we pulled into the driveway. The front entry way was empty, something that was a little peculiar; typically Jon's parents would be sitting on the porch, watching the kids frolic on the front lawn. It was just past noon; they shouldn't be inside on a gorgeous day like today.

"Let's do this" I answered a little bit later. Once we stepped inside the house we immediately realized why the kids were inside.

"Pat!" I grinned, happily hugging him. He smiled, returning the hug eagerly. Jon gave him a bro hug before all of us shuffled into the living room, where Emma was entertaining the kids with the help of Gabby. "And Emma!"

"Hey girl!" She giggled, embracing me in a hug. As happy as I was to see them both, I was a little confused. It seems they read my expression perfectly, something Pat had perfected.

"We were visiting my parents... So we decided to take a complete detour before going home. That, and we have some amazing news we couldn't wait to share with you guys in person" Patrick opened up, grinning crazily. Jon and I eyed each other quizzically; they had been only dating for around five months; they couldn't be engaged? Or pregnant?

"We got our own place!" Emma trilled, holding the key in her hand, waving it around happily.

"I know you say you don't mind me being there, but I thought I'd give you the house to just your family; for once" Patrick laughed, cutting in before I even had the chance to answer. We all exchanged hugs and happy 'congratulations messages' before Jon spoke of our news.

"I'm actually glad you guys are all here, Addie and I have an announcement to make" Jon's parents must have heard from the kitchen, for they shuffled into the living room as well. "Wow big crowd" Jon chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck nervously. Even Ryder and Aveyah sat patiently hanging on Jon's every word.

"So, what is it!?" Ryder asked impatiently. The whole room erupted into laughter, including Jon and I.

"Well first off; we are now the proud owners of a new vacation home just twenty minutes from here!" Jon announced happily. "On the lake, lots of room!"

"Especially since we're expecting child number four" I added with a wink. I looked to Jon's mother, who didn't know how to process this amount of information. The room remained silent, everyone processing the information they had just taken in.

"Brother?" Ryder asked hopefully, hugging my stomach tightly.

"Or a sister buddy" I smirked.

"No" he shook his head simply, not accepting my answer. "Brother"

"Could be another sister" Gabby teased Ryder, hugging me in congratulations.

"No" Ryder shook his head, getting a little upset.

"It's okay buddy, no sister" Jon rolled his eyes, picking him up.

"Wow- congratulations guys!" Emma smiled, hugging both of us.

"Congrats son!" Jon's father grinned happily.

"Jesus slow down you two" Patrick winked, hugging the pair of us once more.

"Grandmother again- congrats you guys!" Jon's mother embraced the pair of us at once kissing our cheeks. ",ske sure you come around this much one this ones born" she added with a wink. "Tea anyone?" She asked all of us.

"I'll have some" I answered, my stomach grumbling. "And maybe it's lunch time too..." I trailed off, my stomach moaning in hunger.

"When do we get to see the place?" Gabby asked curiously.

"We can move in whenever so-"

"Now now now!" Ryder called, jumping up and down.

"Let's go swimming!" Patrick called out, just as enthusiastically as Ryder.

"Why don't you take them to see it? I'm feeling a little tired anyway" I reasoned, suddenly feeling a little woozy. "Make a list of everything we'll need to buy" I informed him. The kids all shouted enthusiastically, as did Patrick. "Go get your stuff!" I called, laughing.

***********************************************^*******************************************************************

"Now that they're gone dear, we have something to discuss with you" Jon's mother and father sat me down at the kitchen table, a decaf tea in my hand. "Your mother's will" they spoke the words I was dreading to hear. For the case of my brother, it took a long time before the contents of my mother's will was read. Wanting no part of it, I told Jon's parents to take whatever they wanted.

"What about it?" I asked frowning.

"The house- it's too big of a Job for the pair of us- and we didn't want to do anything until we knew it was what you wanted" she spoke softly.

"Your mother left everything to you, Jon and the kids" Jon's dad informed me, shocking me a little.

"What about Greg?" I asked without thinking.

"She cut him out of the will" she shrugged. It felt good having my mother seemingly take my side, even after being gone for awhile. I wasn't too sure what he had done to pose of my mother to the point of erasing him from the will.

"A story for another day" Bryan read my thoughts perfectly.

"We should sell the house" I answered shakily. I had lived there all my life; there were so many memories. The furniture we could use for the vacation home, and the rest donated to charity. Going through all the years of papers, pictures and memories would take the rest of the summer. It wasn't something I was looking forward to, but I had no other choice.

"Are you sure, Addie?" She asked me carefully.

"Yeah, I'm sure" I nodded sadly. "I'll have to start sorting through the stuff tomorrow" I decided the sooner the better.
