Should Have Known Better (Needlephobia)

Setting: Sidney’s office - same as above, but darker and later

LINDSAY
(emerging from L.S. in smoke holding a petrified bound and gagged PATRICK)
And neither do any of you!

ALL
Lindsay!

CRISTINA
Patrick! No!!

LINDSAY
You can have your pathetic Merinthophobic!

(LINDSAY shoves PATRICK away from her. He falls to the stage. CRISTINA races forward. She frees PATRICK. He instantly flies into CRISTINA’s arms.)

PATRICK
No more! No more ropes! No more tape! No more!!

CRISTINA
I’ll protect you now! I’ve got you; I’m here!

(CRISTINA and PATRICK hold each other, as SARA throws herself over JONATHAN to protect him. Then CRISTINA and PATRICK stand up and step forward. SIDNEY has been knocked unconscious with his own syringe.)

LINDSAY
Go ahead and try to kill me! If you succeed, Jonathan will awaken and be freed!

SARA
So it is you controlling Jonathan’s comatose state!

PATRICK
Let him go now and we’ll spare you!

LINDSAY
Nope!

CRISTINA and PATRICK
Fine! Suit yourself!

(PATRICK storms forward toward LINDSAY. LINDSAY whisks him to side with magic. CRISTINA tries, but ends up short. SARA turns from JONATHAN and tries herself. She is sent U.S.)

LINDSAY
Oh come on, is that all you’ve got?

PATRICK
No!

(PATRICK and CRISTINA stand, hand-in-hand, bravely. They run at her from the back. LINDSAY whips around and shoves them both down to the stage. They both scramble to their feet. SARA is on her feet and walks over.)

SARA
I think we need to attack her as one unit.

CRISTINA
That sounds right.

PATRICK
I can take her left side.

SARA
I can take her front.

CRISTINA
And I’ll come from the back.

SARA
So we all charge her at once. If we all come at her, someone should be able to get her.

(THEY all charge at her, taking their chosen sides. SARA and CRISTINA manage to grab onto her arms and bring her down.)

LINDSAY
Oh you clever little people!

SARA
Shush!

LINDSAY
So you win, go on and kill me and rescue your friend!

CRISTINA
Oh we’re going to! Patrick, do the honors please.

(PATRICK snatches the syringe used on JONATHAN and SIDNEY. He sticks it into LINDSAY’s skin now. She falls unconscious, instantly awakening JONATHAN once more.
SARA immediately spots her dagger, grabs it and plunges it into LINDSAY’S chest.)

SARA
There! Now let’s get out of here! And quickly before Sidney recovers and tries something. He can bury her body or burn it!

PATRICK
I’m with that.

JONATHAN
I agree with Kaner!

CRISTINA
Yes, please let’s get out of here and preferably now!

(SIDNEY begins to stir. SARA grabs JONATHAN’s arm and they flee off L.S. PATRICK and CRISTINA follow. Exit ALL.)

JONATHAN and PATRICK
Maybe we can learn to live and conquer our fears! I think we can work to live with them.

SARA and CRISTINA
That sounds like a good idea.

(Encore and Finale Medley song: Needlephobia (Reprise) are sung.)

I'm considering having this be entered into a one-act festival soon. Well, maybe not with Jonny and Kaner, but close....hope you like it. I love one-acts and musicals and theatre in general. (As you know, if you read Angelia, Murder Game, Beauty...etc....) - I just think it's cool that I can adapt these ideas to hockey players, actually makes the story lines better and more funny.

But seriously, thanks for reading and I hope maybe I've inspired or introduced a few of you to a new writing style, which is the musical theatre/stageplay format. If any of you are interested in playwriting, I'm more than willing and happy to help out.
