Epilogue - I’m Here For You
Evelyna’s POV
Even though the Dallas Stars (mainly because of the young team they are and probably - more than likely - Tyler Seguin being out with his injury) missed the Playoffs this year, they went out on a high, strong note. The Russian Bacon Line led the charge and they clobbered the Nashville Predators, 8-0. Tyler and Val had hat tricks and Jamie had six assists and a goal. It was a HUGE night for them all. The last goal was from John Klingberg.
When the game was over, I ran from the booth, still wearing my headset (I was pretty slippery when it came to remember I had it on) and raced into the locker room. I pushed through all the players until I found Valeri Nichushkin.
“Nichy!!” I jumped into his arms...his sweaty, muscular, totally Jeremy Renner-like arms! And I kissed him, congratulating him on the hat trick. He wrapped his arms around me and spun me around in front of all his teammates, who cheered for him...or us.
Then he finally put me down on the ground. He smiled at me, sweetly. “Thanks for motivation. I shoot goal and get hat trick for you!”
I gasped and blushed deeply. “Awe, love you too, Nichy baby...Arrow Hawk.”
Tyler and Jamie came over. Naturally, Tyler had no shirt on (surprise, surprise). Nothing shocks me about that man anymore. Jamie hugged me now.
“You motivated the Russian alright and you are a main reason for our big win. Therefore,” Jamie said as he kept his arms draped around my shoulder. He nodded to the side, briefly in a signal. “as I have talked to all of the boys, we are nominating you as the beholder of the Cowboy hat!”
“Here! Here!” all the Stars exclaimed.
Jamie stepped back as something was placed on my head. I spotted the cowboy hat, which was the honorary Dallas Star tradition. It was like the belt to Chicago players. It was a reward for the player who was the MVP of the night. And that happened to be me!
“Thank you so much for this honor boys, oh you’re gonna make me give an Oscar speech!” I exclaimed, fanning my face like such a girl.
Val, Tyler and Jamie laughed.
“You earn it. You part of Dallas Star family now.” Val nodded.
“Thanks sweetie and I’m super glad you were able to get a hat trick and have a nice ending to your sophomore season. You deserve it.”
Val stepped forward and fixed the hat on my head. He then moved and tucked a strand of my red hair behind my ear, while he smiled. “And I could no have done it without you. If you never save me in Orlando…”
I cut him off with another kiss. “If you didn’t talk so much,” I mused.
We pulled back and then I looked around at everyone. “2015, wasn’t the outcome any of us, and I do mean us, wanted...but 2016 will be better.” I felt like the coach talking. “You can dwell on the past and you can think how miserable this season is, but...I tell you this, next season is the Dallas Stars!”
“Yeah! THAT CUP IS DALLAS’!!!!” Tyler shouted.
“Hey, Evelyna, you’re taking over my captain job here,” Jamie chuckled. “Maybe let me and coach do that.”
“She good speaker. It good practice for her. In case she do win Oscar.”
“Val,” Jamie scolded.
Val bit his lip and looked down. I patted him. But knowing the young 20 year old, his head was back up and he was smiling again. Tyler smacked Jamie’s shoulder.
“Easy there Star Vision. Ease up on Arrow Hawk,” Tyler laughed.
“Shut up Scorpion, you goof!” Jamie shot back.
I watched the two of them bicker like a married couple and it reminded me of Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. But this was the new Dynamic Duo and complete with their Russian...the Stars were set.
Though I was sad that their season had to end, I was happy for them and they were all disappointed - of course - but ready for the next season. And next season, the Dallas Stars would tear the NHL a new one. They’d be quick and smart and strong...and powerful! The 2016 Stanley Cup belonged to the Dallas Stars!
