Chapter 4

It had been three days since the Rangers lost in the Stanley Cup finals to the Los Angeles Kings. Three days. Patrick had gone down to Disney World for Brian Boyle's wedding and was sitting in Gen's room as he unpacked the gifts he got her, including a tee shirt with a very embarrassing photo of Brian on it. "Question." Gen looked up from her laptop. That was never a good thing. "Yes Pat?" She was trying to come up with a new witty blog post for her newly minted blog Hockey Sister. "Why did I see your name on J.T. Miller's phone the other day. He was at brunch with us at Brian's after wedding breakfast and he walked away and your texts were on his phone. I didn't even know you guys knew each other." Gen was busted. She never actually told Patrick that she met him, or that Chris gave him her number. Or the fact that they snapchatted and texted 24/7. "Oh really? I thought I told you. We met after one of the playoff games. Chris told me he was working out with you guys this summer. It's not a big deal." He looked at her with the signature Patrick Connelly glare. "Nothing will happen Patty. I am just getting over that kid from British Columbia. The one that shouldn't be named."

He shook his head and walked out. He had a rule. No dating his teammates. She always abided by it, but there was something about J.T. pulling her in. Ping. Ping. She looked down at her phone. 1 snapchat, 1 text. It was like the boy knew they were talking about him. Speak of the devil. "Driving down to CT with JVR. See you soon." She had butterflies in her stomach. She couldn't wait for tonight when Max threw the first barbecue of the summer. Which meant the four original families plus all the NHL players that spent every summer in Fairfield County working out with head trainer Ben Wentworth. This was going to be an interesting summer.

Three hours later Gen was buzzed on two beers, and was sitting on J.T.'s lap much to the dismay of her brothers, father, and Cam, Max and Ben. She couldn't help it that she wanted to be close to him. They had to mind their own business. "Gen are you working this summer?" Jack Campbell asked as she nodded. "Lilly Pulitzer, on Greenwich Avenue! Come visit me guys!" She got up off J.T. and headed down to the pool with Max's sisters. "GEN! He's so hot." Katie whispered as they tugged off their Tunics showing off their Calypso bikinis as J.T. and Jack b lined for them. "Hot tub?" Jack motioned as they nodded. They needed to come out from their brothers shadows and have a summer that would wind up in the history books. "Your so beautiful." J.T. whispered into her ear. "Thanks J." She whispered as he wrapped an arm around her waist. She could feel all eyes on her, beaming into her skin. She knew she shouldn't be doing this. It had only been a month and a half since Brayden hurt her, leaving her broken hearted. But she just wanted to have fun for once. Not having to worry about what people thought of her.

"Gen, come on. We're leaving. You have your first day of work tomorrow. Let's go." Her mother ruined everything. She was this close to getting J.T. to kiss her. "Gotta go." She said getting out of the hot tub and drying herself off with a towel. Throwing her tunic on and sliding her Jacks on. "Gen wait." She turned around and J.T. pulled her towards him and kissed her. The kiss wasn't like Brayden's kisses. It wasn't needy, sticky, rushed. It was long, and sweet and nice. She pulled away for some air as he let her go. "Go on a date with me?" She nodded, a grin flashing across her face. "Gen!" She kissed him again as she ran back up to the deck and left with her family. "He's a cutie." Her mom said wrapping a hermes arm around her only daughter. "Thanks mom." She could feel Patrick's anger radiating off of him as he walked in back of her. He was pissed. And she was about to have the wrath of Patrick in the car.

This summer was definitely going to be legendary. "Miss you already." J.T.'s name flashed onto her iPhone screen. Her smile wasn't going anywhere.
