Chapter 5

Gen laid down on the cool hardwood floor of her bedroom. It was disgustingly hot out and the AC wasn't helping anything, she felt sticky and gross. So a tank top and Nike shorts had to get her through the night. All of a sudden she heard a noise outside, what the hell could that be? And then pangs against the French doors that opened up to her terrace outside of her bedroom. She got off the cool floor and opened the doors, walking onto the terrace. There he was. "J.T. what are you doing here?" She smirked as he threw more rocks in her direction as she squealed. "I am coming up." Was he seriously going to scale the terrace? He jumped up and secured his hands onto the terrace as he pulled himself up. Hockey players. They had strength. "Hey you." He pulled her towards him and kissed her. By the way he tasted, and looked he was indeed wasted. "How much did you have to drink tonight?" She pulled him into her room as she closed the doors behind the two of them. "Not that much...." She laughed. He was totally drunk. "Why are you here J.T.?" She thew on a Penguins sweatshirt that was sitting on her floor and sat on her bed.

"I don't exactly know. I just know we have something. Something I've never had with a girl. Your special. I've never been more attracted to a girl ever in my life." She shook her head. She gave this speech once, she was given this speech once. His name was Brayden, and he ripped her heart out. "J I am just getting over someone. Someone who hurt me so badly. I can't rush into anything, not now." She looked away from him as he stepped closer to the bed. "I am not Brayden Caldwell. I am not going to break your heart. I promise." He reached out his pinky finger like they were five years old, promising to save each other a seat on the bus. She wrapped her pinky finger around his and he kissed it. "See I am not going to break your heart now." He laid down on her bed, as she laid down next to him, her head on his chest. She could hear his heart beat. She felt close to him. "J.T. how many other girls have you been with?" She looked up at him. He was fast asleep. She got off him, closed the light and got back into bed. "Night J." She kissed his forehead as she turned away from him, and soon fell fast asleep.

J.T. woke up to the sunshine strolling in through Gen's windows leading out to the terrace that he vaguely remembered scaling last night. His head hurt, his eyes hurt. His body hurt. He stumbled out of bed and looked over at Gen sleeping soundly. She looked beautiful, even in her sleep. She was crazy beautiful. His last relationship with his high school girlfriend Paige Ryan burned into his mind. She hurt him, she cheated on him while he was playing for the Wolfpack, back in pittsburgh. Brayden Caldwell hurt Gen, he knew where she was coming from. But he couldn't slow down, since meeting her last month after she tripped over his skates he couldn't imagine life without her. Which was crazy but he didn't care. He needed her. "I gotta go Gen." He said mumbling into her ear. But she didn't wake up. He looked around and saw that she had a notebook opened on her desk. He walked over, sliding on his Bauer Slides in the process. He looked more closely at the notebook. "Photography 101. Shutter Speed, Aperture. Brayden loves Gen." He looked back at the girl in the bed. Maybe she wasn't over Brayden. Apparently this guy destroyed her. He grabbed a pen from the mason jar on his bed and crossed out the Brayden loves Gen part of her notes. He guessed they had classes together. He tore out a piece of the notebook paper. "Had to run. First training session of the summer today. Thanks for being so cool with me crashing in here. Text me when you wake up. I'll take you to lunch."- J.T. He put it on the pillow he claimed last night and quietly opened the doors to the terrace, closing them behind him, and scaled the terrace again, jumping down at the end. He knew he was probably going to use that terrace a lot this summer. Patrick pretty much made it obvious last night he didn't want him to date his sister. Too bad he was going to break bro code, and teammate code. But no one was going to get in the way of him and Gen.

Gen woke up and rolled over, hoping to roll over onto J.T.'s warm and comfy chest, but no one was there. "J.T.?" She whispered. She wasn't going to scream it. Her parents would die if they found a boy in her room. Who spent the night. Then she saw the note, she read it, and reread it. She grabbed her phone. 12:17. Training was already over. It started at 8:00 am every morning on the dot in Darien. "Hey how was your first day of training? Buy me a late breakfast?" She texted him and laid back down. She fell asleep in her sweatshirt, she was sticky and hot and sweating like a pig. "It was horrible. I am dying. Pick you up in a half hour? Oh and Gen. Be my girlfriend? I know it's kind of fast. But I think we have something special." She practically screamed. But she had to act cool. "Buy me a bacon, egg and cheese from Granola Bar and maybe I'll accept the relationship request." Gen Miller. It sounded pretty good to her. Brayden Caldwell could go die in a hole somewhere. She was moving onto better.
