Evelyna’s POV

I darted back inside Sharpy’s home. Everyone was looking at me with wonder. Patrick was the one who came forward. His baby blues sparkling still. He reached a hand out to me and I broke down. I held out Jonathan’s phone from the blond to see and he gasped. He instantly pieced things together.

“Sidney’s kidnapped Jonny!!” I told him, burying my head into his unhurt shoulder. He patted me on the back, but reassured me that things would be okay.

He led me over to where Val was and respected my choice. He kindly passed me to the Russian, who wrapped his arms around me in comfort. Damn, that Russian could give good hugs!

“We find Blackhawks Captain,” he spoke.

I looked up at him and nodded, finally breaking a smile for him. He was the best. I wiped my eyes and gave him a kiss. Then I turned around, grabbed his hand once more into mine. I felt more comfortable with him there. I faced Patrick and the others gathered around. “Alright, here’s what’s going to happen, Kinny, Christina, Nichy and I are going to go after Jonny.” I held up my hand immediately to Patrick, who opened his mouth to say something. “Don’t even say anything Kanerboo. You aren’t going. You stay with Brandon, Sharpy and Shawzy.”

“But Shawzy’s so annoying!”

I looked at Val. “Tell me about it.”

“Hey!” Patrick exclaimed, folding his arms. He pouted his lip and frowned.

I rolled my eyes at him. “Oh, please, Kanerboo, just stay here and continue to heal up. Trust me, it’ll be best for you in the end. And I guarantee you’ll thank me.”

Patrick finally relaxed and nodded. He trudged off, heading over to Sharpy, who put his arms around him. The blond couldn’t do much, but allow it to happen. He looked back at me, as Nathan and Christina came over to Val and I. He shouted out, “Find my friend Tazer, will ya!”

“We will. My brother and your best friend will NOT be killed by Sid!” I proclaimed.

With that, we walked out of Sharpy’s house and back to the car. I drove now, with Val taking the passenger seat. Nathan and Christina took the back. And we were instantly off, heading down the street where the van had taken off from. In the center console, Jonathan’s phone buzzed. I nodded to Val, who picked it up and tapped the screen. He read the message and I was certain the poor guy couldn’t understand the message.

I saw Christina lean forward and tap him on the shoulder. The Russian turned to her and she gestured to the phone, to look at it. He passed it to her and she read the message, which went a little like this: Dearest sister of Jonathan Toews, I’m so sorry for ruining the victorious occasion, but I couldn’t help myself. I had to kidnap Jonny again, because I just can’t let you win.

I looked into the rearview mirror. “Tell Sid, that we need to end this. Tell him to meet us at the UC, in the lobby in an hour. And WITH Jonny.”

Christina typed the reply back to the Penguin.

A few seconds later a response came. Alright. Fine. Tell your little Russian to watch his back.

I stomped on the brake at a red light and whirled around. There was a burning fire in my eyes, as I looked at her. “Tell that Penguin that if he threatens Nichy again, I’ll punch his face in, until he’s a disfigured asshole!”

Christina typed that to him. And he responded with, Bring it on bitch!

I pulled the car into the parking lot of the UC and parked in a spot. I got out of the car and walked around to Val. He got out and happily reached his hand out and grabbed mine. Christina passed Jonathan’s phone back to me and I put it into my pocket. Nathan climbed out last and he wrapped his arms around my friend. She welcomed him, grinning at him.

I looked at Val and his blue eyes sparkled in the dim light. He bent his head down and kissed me on the lips. I allowed him to. I loved it. After a few seconds, I felt his hand at my waist and I noticed Christina looking at me in shock. I gave her a weird look and she started to giggle. I saw Nathan drape his arms around her shoulders, as she giggled more and then turned to him.

I broke apart, giving him a look. He looked ashamed of himself and I reached up and touched his cheek with my hand. He lowered his head once more and I whispered into his ear, “We can get to know one another once this is all over, okay?”

He nodded his head and we walked to the United Center. It was time to end this and find out once and for all why Sidney Crosby was after Christina and I...but mostly me.

We walked into the lobby, through the doors. I gripped Val’s hand tighter, just in case. I saw Christina grab onto Nathan’s. We slowly crept forward in the darkness.

“We need to find a light switch…”

“I think I found one!” Christina’s voice said from somewhere nearby.

Sure enough, the lights came on and as soon as they did, I halted abruptly in place, startled but what was ahead of us. Sitting in the middle of the lobby was…

Sidney Crosby!
