Perils

Mourning Tyler’s Death

Evelyna’s POV

A month after all of the players who’d been kidnapped by Sven - including the inhuman Patrick Kane - had recovered from the trauma and injuries, Jamie Benn contacted everyone and informed us about a funeral for Tyler Seguin.

We all graciously accepted the invitation, wanting to bid Tyler farewell. And I wanted to apologize to him again. It was my fault that he was dead. I cared about Tyler and he was going to be greatly missed by the Dallas Stars. I knew Jamie was having a real tough time with it. Brad Marchand, Patrick Kane, and Patrice Bergeron were too.

By now, I was living happily in Dallas, Texas with my boyfriend Valeri Nichushkin. Christina was living with Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado. Both of us were joyous and thankful. We also still kept in touch and remained friends. We still cared for our brothers and would often visit with them.

Also, of note, no one had dared to touch Val and he was lighting lamps left and right. Dallas had gotten a new center player for Jamie and Val, after trading Ales Hemsky to Tampa Bay for Jonathan Drouin. I wasn’t quite sure of this trade at first, but he was Nathan’s friend and that was kind of cool.

Val and I hitched a ride with the somber Jamie to the funeral, where we met up with other players from the league. I was shocked at the number of people who had been friends with Tyler. I mean, he was a good kid, yes, but there were like 200 people there. I recognized all of the Dallas Stars, plus Tyler’s ex teammates from Boston, including a crying Patrice and Brad. Reilly Smith was there too. Gabriel Landeskog had come with Nathan, feeling it necessary to attend. And Jonathan Toews, my brother and Patrick Kane were also in the mix.

I remained with Val, keeping him close. All of the players and people were kind and considerate and they knew Jamie and Val were feeling the most sadness out of all the players, given that they were Tyler’s linemates. (Brad too.)

Everyone listened to the speeches and then rotated through the line, bidding Tyler a final farewell. There really wasn’t a dry eye in the cluster of players, family and friends. Everyone was crying or shedding a tear. No one was happy about his death. And that was okay. It was supposed to be a sad circumstance, an innocent man had died in a revenge-filled plot.

When it got to be my turn, I made sure to pay my condolences and express my sorrow. I spent the most time at the side of Tyler. I looked over his dead body, lying in the casket and it was just too much. I lost it.

“I never wanted you to die. I cared about you Segs. You may have been annoying and showoffish, but you were young and you were a ladies’ man. You were Kaner’s twin and I didn’t see that. Because of that, Sven played to my weakness. He knew that I DID care about you. He was right all along, I may not have LOVED you Tyler Seguin, but I did CARE about you and I did LIKE you. May you rest in peace.”

And then I hurried over to Val and embraced him, shedding more tears.

The mourning continued with more speeches from players, including Jamie and Brad, who were hurt the most. They’d both had bromances with Tyler and it was only right that they were the most miserable ones. I looked over to see Jonathan holding Patrick close to him. The blond Blackhawk was in tears and had moved his head to bury it in his friend’s shoulder. The brunette was patting him, comfortingly.

After that was finished, we had a moment of silence and then finally bid our final farewell, as the lid was closed and the casket with Tyler Seguin was lowered into a hole in the ground and buried in the dirt and Earth.

Notes

Uh....that would be EXTREMELY awkward if Jo came to Dallas and was a Star. But it would be cool if Colorado got him and reunited him with his bestie. That would be cool and a little bit "awe" invoking. Also, Landy would probably be a little heartbroken, given that Kinny and Jo might have the bromance...but if bromances work with one "giggly" one and one "serious" one (opposites), who would be the "giggly" one for Jo and Kinny. I see Landy as more of the only giggly one, so maybe there would be no bromance....
Eh...
Sorry, this is the ending and what happens when I let my mind run on autopilot.

Next up: The End.
