Resurrection and Revenge

Jonathan Toews and Russell Wilson hurried back, as quick as they could. When they arrived to the UC and the scene, they found Marian and Bryan trying to comfort Duncan Keith, who was holding a bag of ice to his head and still trying to piece things together.

“What happened?” Jonathan asked, darting up to them.

“Avery. He kidnapped, well...shall we run through the list of who he has? Shawzy, Saader, Smitty, Seabs, Sharpy, Hammer, and Crow...all of them are gone!” Bryan exclaimed.

Duncan shook his head. “It’s my fault. I should have been with them!”

“No, no, it’s not your fault, Duncs. It’s mine. I’m the Captain and they vanished because I was dumb enough to listen to Avery and get baited in his trap. He knew I would care about Kaner to go after him, instead of stay behind. And he has half of the team now!”

“That’s not all, Jonny,” Duncan continued on.

“What?”

“Avery kidnapped Gabriel Landeskog too!” the defenseman finished.

Jonathan was taken aback. He was about to question what the Colorado player was doing in Chicago, but before he could, he was interrupted.

“And Tyler Seguin,” a voice exclaimed behind them.

Jonathan whipped around to see Jamie Benn walking toward them. He was bleeding from a cut on his forehead. He looked like he had just gotten in a fight.

“Jamie, aren’t the Stars supposed to be gone by now?” Marian questioned.

“Yes, but Avery kidnapped Tyler. He said that he needed him for his scheme!” Jamie announced, shaking his head.

“Why would Avery kidnap an Avalanche player and a Dallas Star?” Russell pipped up, stepping forward to Jonathan’s side.

“I don’t know. But Tyler is Patrick’s friend,” Jonathan exclaimed, nodding to Jamie.

“But still...what is Avery’s problem. I heard the whole backstory with this at the beginning of the pre-season, but still…”

“Avery started the fight. And he’s just a little revengeful and messed up in the head,” Marian stated.

“A little!?” Jonathan blurted.

“Wait, if Tyler’s been kidnapped by Avery and this Gabriel guy, shouldn’t we let the NHL know!” Russell remarked.

“They won’t cancel the games, but they should know and I don’t know what would happen. Would it be fair to have a depleted Chicago roster because Sean Avery kidnapped players?” Jamie inquired.

Jonathan nodded. “Let’s see what happens first. But Avery really shouldn’t fuck with the league like this!”

Russell, Jonathan, Jamie, Marian, Duncan and Bryan walked into the UC. The latter trio went into the locker room to recover, while Russell, Jonathan and Jamie continued to the rink. The United Center was so empty and ghostly. The Captain stepped out of the tunnel and spotted the Coach having a fit.

“Q!”

“Jonny, where’s the team?”

“Avery.”

“Sean Avery?”

“Yeah, the bastard showed up and kidnapped half of the team. Duncan, Bryan and Marian managed to get away, but Duncan is still dazed.”

Jamie emerged behind him and the Coach nodded in his direction. “What’s the Dallas Captain doing here?”

“Sir, my teammate Tyler Seguin was also taken by Avery.”

News: “Residents of Chicago, Illinois, please do not be alarmed, but the city will be on a lockdown until further notice. All sporting events have been halted and players are under close surveillance. Hockey at the UC is suspended as well. The NHL will carry on with games, but Dallas, Colorado and Chicago are under the lockdown and temporary postponement. All players in these three teams should remain on the utmost caution. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Jonathan sat at his home with Russell Wilson and Jamie Benn. Jamie and the Stars - thanks to the NHL - were not allowed to leave Chicago and so the Captain of the Stars was staying with the Captain of the Blackhawks.

“I can’t believe this, so you and Jonny are friends?” Jamie questioned, his eyes flickering between Russell and Jonathan.

“It’s true. He helped me to get Patrick back from Avery and this 49er guy Crabtree.”

“Yeah, I heard about that. I’m sorry about Kaner.”

Jonathan looked to the side for a moment, afraid he would break down in tears again, but he maintained his composure and turned back.

Jamie bowed his head and looked at his feet, momentarily. “Kaner is to you, like Tyler is to me. Do you have any idea where Avery went?”

“Paris.”

“As in France or Florida?”

“France.”

“Oh.”

“Russell and I have to go after him.”

“But you can’t because of the lockdown.”

“Avery’s not looking to kidnap me, more so play with me. And anyone with me is safe or should be safe.”

Jamie looked at the centerman for Chicago. “How do you know?”

“Because if Avery wanted to kidnap me, he would’ve done so. Trust me, I’m fine.”
