Resurrection and Revenge

The Game...No, Wait, Make That “Avery’s Game!”

Avery untied Patrick from the chair, but bound his wrists together before him. Then he knelt down untied Tyler from the leg, but grabbed the end and yanked Tyler to his feet. The Star wasn’t pleased at being forced around. He tried to bad talk Avery, who ignored him or didn’t care.

Then he dragged Patrick and yanked the rope for Tyler to come with him. He took both men down another corridor and into a side room. He sat Patrick into a chair attached Tyler to the leg of that chair. Then he removed their gags, yanking the handkerchief and bandana down to dangle around their necks and left them alone to chat.

“AVERY, YOU ASSHOLE! Is this a game to you?” Tyler snapped at once.

“It is. Now, talk to one another and I’ll be back in an hour to silence you both once more and launch into the next plan!”

“Plan!? You have no plan!” Patrick bravely spat.

“I will in an hour, I suggest you spend it wisely.” He smirked and slammed the door shut, bolted in closed. Patrick tilted his head down to look at Tyler, who was yanking at the rope leash again.

“Screw Avery and his ropework!” the Dallas Star growled, through gritted teeth. He finally gave up with an exhausted grunt at the effort.

“Yeah, look, I’m sorry Avery dragged you into this.”

“It’s not your fault.”

“It is, because you are my best friend!”

“I’m glad that you care for me, Patrick, but it isn’t your fault. Jamie will find me - find us!”

“I had hope last time like that and eventually Jonny did come for me...but this is the second time Avery’s kidnapped me...I don’t think that Jonny can win twice in a row!”

“Than let it be Jamie!”

“I wish I could. I so wish that I could believe in Jamie Benn.” Patrick sighed and leaned back against the chair.

Tyler stared at the door. He couldn’t believe what was going on. Hope and faith was the only thing he had. Why didn’t Patrick have it?

“Why don’t you believe in Jamie?”

“Segs, it’s not like that. I know Avery. I’ve been tormented by him before. He’s a real ass and he almost succeeded. Had he thrown the crate I was in over the bridge...I wouldn’t be here and I know he won’t fail to kill me a second time. He made a mistake, but he won’t this time. That is why I don’t trust Jamie. I’m sorry.”

Tyler attempted to shift himself around, so he could look at Patrick. He could only crane his neck to see half of the blond man though. Patrick looked awful though, from what he could see. He was able to see every part of Patrick pretty much but his face. He could see the bloody gash on his head.

“Did Avery hurt you?”

“It was Crabtree.”

“The other, the black man?”

“Yeah. I tried to fight him, but he slammed my head against the chair and...well...that’s how I got that wound.”

Tyler felt sorry for his friend. He’d made a mistake and Tyler knew that he had made many mistakes as well. But Patrick had made a devastating mistake. He knew what it was, he’d heard about it and the two of them had hung out in Switzerland together during the 2012 lockout. Patrick was a sweet guy and very similar in personality to Tyler, but nice as could be. He knew that the blond Blackhawk was innocent and he trusted him.

“I’m sorry.”

“Not your fault. You didn’t bash my head against a chair.”

“But still, why are Crabtree and Avery such dicks?”

“Tyler, please,” Patrick scoffed, having to laugh a little at his friend’s massive bravery. “You probably shouldn’t speak bad about them. They could be listening in on our conversation.”

“I say screw ‘em! If they want to spy on us, they should know that we aren’t happy to be their hostages! Just because they kidnapped us and seem to be in control, doesn’t mean they can tell me what to do.”

“Tyler!”

“What’s Avery going to do? Kill me? Aren’t I already dead?”

“Tyler Paul Seguin, stop. Please, don’t egg Avery on. He’ll hurt you. I mean it!”

“What can he do?”

“TYLER!! STOP!!” Patrick snapped.

“Okay, fine, I’ll stop.”

“Thank you. I love your will and bravery, but I really don’t want to see you get killed.”

Tyler nodded his head and smiled to himself. His wrists were stinging, but he could respect Patrick’s wishes. Truth was, he didn’t want to see Patrick get killed either. “Jonny’s a lucky man.”

Patrick wriggled in the seat. He had a sudden idea. He couldn’t let Tyler die because of something he had done. He thought back to the first capture and how Jermaine Kearse had saved him and almost succeeded in helping him to escape. Maybe he could help Tyler out and Tyler could get help. It was worth a try.

He managed to slide to the floor, dropping out of the chair. The ground was hard, but he braced himself for the pain. It was so bad. He only felt a momentary pain.

“Patrick, are you okay?”

There was no response from the man.

“Patrick?” he called again.

As soon as it subsided, the Blackhawk pushed himself upward into a sitting position and then quickly reached for his ankles and untied the rope. He then carefully three-legged crawled over to Tyler and sat behind his back.

“I may not have hope, but I do have smarts.”

“I was worried about you for a second there.”

“I just fell out of the chair. No problem though.”

He worked his bound hands to untie Tyler’s wrists. When he was free, the Star turned and untied Patrick’s hands. Then he snatched the blond’s hands into his own and they both got to their feet. They ran to the door and tried the handle. It was locked because of Avery.

“There’s gotta be a way out of here!”

Patrick and Tyler ran around the room, searching for a secret exit or entrance or something. But there was nothing. And then they heard the foreboding sound of the handle jiggling on the door.

“Avery!” Tyler gasped.

Patrick nodded.

They stood together, standing as far back as they could.

“What are we going to do? He’s gonna kill us!” Tyler hissed, his eyes wide open and full of fright.

“We’ve got to fight Avery!”

“But I don’t fight!”

“Neither do I, but it’s our only shot!”

Tyler nodded. They braced themselves, balling their fists up.

“If worse comes to worse, I’ll take Avery myself. And you can run! Get help, find Jonny or Jamie or someone!” Patrick added on, as the door swung open.

“Right.”

Sean Avery burst into the room, a raging ball of fury. “Kanerboo!! Seguin!! What are you doing free?”

“I set him free, you goon! Shouldn’t tie your captive’s wrists in front of him next time! Made it too easy!” Patrick snapped, suddenly brave and feeling like Tyler.

Sean stomped further into the room. “You want to fight me again?”

“Delightfully.”

Patrick raced forward with Tyler and they both attacked Avery. But the goon was ready for them both. He punched Tyler in the face and sent him stumbling backward. Then he wrapped Patrick up. But Patrick fought him, eventually slipping from his hold.

Avery grabbed his arms again, before he could escape. Patrick struggled to slip free, but this hold was more difficult.

“Tyler run! Get Dangeruss and Tazer!!”

“Yes, go Tyler, what are you waiting for? Leave Kanerboo alone in my clutches!” the evil man taunted, as Tyler ran for the door, but paused. He looked at Patrick, like he was debating leaving him.

“Don’t let him get in your head! Run Tyler!! Go!!” Patrick screamed at the brunette man.

Tyler reluctantly turned on his heels and dashed down the hall. He heard a loud thunk noise and a high-pitched scream from behind him. He looked over his shoulder, but didn’t see Avery. He spun back around and collided with something instead. He flailed before falling to the ground. He glanced up and saw Michael Crabtree hovering over him.

The black man seized him and yanked him to his feet. “Tsk tsk, you shouldn’t be running around free like this.”

Tyler pulled at the grip of the black man, as his fingers tightened around Tyler’s arms, pinning them behind the Star’s back. Crabtree dragged him backward by his arms, as he put up a valiant fight. As he did, he glimpsed Avery emerging from the room with Patrick. The Blackhawk was bound and gagged with the bandana once more. This time, his arms were behind his back. He was unconscious, which meant that Avery must have clocked him over the head. That must have been the thunk and scream that Tyler had heard. Avery was smirking, as he stormed forward, lugging the blond man with him.

“PATRICK!! PATRICK, NO!!”

Crabtree managed to hold Tyler still, momentarily, somehow, while he raised the handkerchief into place, stifling the Dallas forward.

“Nice try pretty boy!” Crabtree sneered at him. “But, Avery’s smart. He figured you might scheme some escape up being alone together. What, did you think you could actually get out of the vastness of Notre Dame? Silly Seguin.”

Tyler screamed into the gag and continued to put up a fight and struggle, yanking at Crabtree’s hold on him. What was going to happened to them now?
