Resurrection and Revenge

The NHL UN

Jonathan, Jamie and Russell got off the plane in Boston about two hours later.

The Blackhawk’s Captain was leading. He seemed to know where he was going. Jamie did too, but he let the wise centerman lead.

Before long, they pulled up and stood before a massive building in Downtown Boston. It resembled the UN building in New York, but instead, this one had a NHL symbols engraved into the cement. And also engraved, across a title stone that jutted outward were the words, “National Hockey League United Nations Building.”

Around the circular drive, each team’s logo was printed on a flag. The original six teams, were close to the middle, which was where the entrance walkway was that led up to the front doors. It was Boston and Chicago that were the inside most logos.

“Here’s the NHLUNB!” Jonathan exclaimed.

“Cool!! So it’s just like the one in New York, but hockey related? Do you think there’s one for the NFL?” The football player stared at the interesting building, in utter shock. He never would have guessed that the professional sports world was like this.

“Probably,” Jamie stated.

“It must be for the elites like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. I’ll be joining them someday I hope.”

“Oh, Russell, you’re a talented quarterback though. You can run with the big boys too!” Jonathan remarked. “You’re like me. I don’t think we’ll ever rank up to being Gretzkys or Lemieuxs or even Orrs, but we can join them. One day Kaner and I will be greats...but we’ll never stop helping out our team currently. We love playing and can’t think about retiring right now.”

“I gotcha! I understand. It’s truly just a treasure to do loved by fans.”

Jamie and Jonathan smiled and nodded in agreement. Then they turned to each other and shared some secret silent communication and pushed the doors open to the large 8-floor building. They entered into a lobby, like one might see in a five-star hotel in Hollywood or New York. It was spectacular. In the center of the floor there was a huge NHL logo printed and they crossed over it, heading over to four fancy elevators.

Jamie pressed the button and then they immediately walked into the small, but stylish transporter and made it up to the second floor. This was where the meeting would be. They filed out and walked down a red-velvet carpeted floored hallway and into a massive conference room.

Around a long table players sat or stood conversing. It was rather noisy. Russell could recognize a few of them from commercials and endorsements. Also just from popularity. Jonathan and Jamie made it to the front of the table. Russell followed them, but stood behind them, feeling slightly out of place and awkward.

“Boys!! Boys!!” the Chicago Captain thundered.

“Hey, shut up!! Tazer’s speaking!!” a dark haired man wearing a black home jersey for the Pittsburgh Penguins with the number 87 snapped.

“Thanks Sid,” Jonathan dipped his head to the man.

“Why did you call us here Benny? Did someone hurt little Seggy?” a man from the St. Louis Blues sneered, folding his arms. “That’s stupid man! Why should we have to care about him?!”

Jamie frowned and stared the man in the eyes, with an ice cold look. “It’s not Seguin! It’s one of our own and well...I’ll let Jonathan speak.” He stepped to the side, pointing his index and middle finger to his eyes and then back at the Blues’ leader, who rolled his eyes and snorted with derision. ‘I’m watching you, Backes,’ Jamie mouthed to him.

Some of the players turned to each other and started to loudly whisper, “one of our own?” They looked around with curiosity.

Jonathan stepped forward, nodding to Jamie and then leaned on the end of the table and looked at everyone. “Thank you for coming and I’m sorry if any of you were pulled from important matters, but we are all the captains of our teams respectfully and I’m sure if someone close to you, say your best friend was kidnapped by a madman, you’d seek help too.”

“Kaner! This is about Kaner?!” a Red Wing player groaned, rolling his eyes. “Blackhawks!”

“No, Zetterberg, it’s much worse! Look around, notice someone missing from the panel? There’s an empty seat here and I’ll give you a hint, it’s not a Blackhawk or Star!?”

“Avalanche! Gabriel!! Where’s Landy?” Patrice Bergeron, the newly-named Captain for the Boston Bruins spoke up.

“Yeah, where’s Landeskog?” Steven Stamkos, the Tampa Bay Lightning Captain added on, confirming the puzzling case of the missing Avalanche player.

“Very good. He was kidnapped, along with Kaner, Segs, and half of the Blackhawk team. If this was just Blackhawks, I’d refrain from getting you involved, but because it encompasses three different teams, we are all in danger. Sean Avery has returned and he’s seeking revenge for something that happened in 2010--”

“What? Drunken little Kanerboo’s come back to haunt himself? What a shocker?!” Zetterberg snarled. “I’m not helping him out!”

“Shut up Zetts, you old dried out, worn-down apeman!” Carey Price, the Montreal Canadiens’ Captain spat.

“As I was saying, Avery’s back and he’s out to hurt the NHL, I need us all to band together and work as one to stop Avery. Surely you all heard about the incident over Summer?”

“Yes, we all did. To no end. We’re sorry about Kaner, but what can we do?” Ryan Getzlaf, the Anaheim Ducks Captain spoke up. He was as bald as ever.

“That’s why I called this meeting!” Jamie remarked. “I’m set on helping Jonny out. Please join me and we can come up with a plan!”

“You’re only helping him ‘cause Tyler was kidnapped!” Zetterberg snarled and rolled his eyes.

Jamie faced him. “Don’t question my leadership! Getzy, imagine if Pers was in Segs’ shoes or Sid, it’s Kunitz, or Bergy, it’s Reilly or Marchy. Please, you’ve got to help us fight this, we can’t do it alone.”

Russell was amazed by the leadership and the wisdom. He saw Ryan Getzlaf and Patrice Bergeron share a look and nod. Sidney just sat there, thinking and rather stunned. The conversation and chaos broke out once more all around the room. Jamie and Jonathan shared a look of something like, “this had better work out.”

“I’m in! I’ll help you all out!” Ryan Getzlaf shouted, over the noise.

“Me too!” Patrice Bergeron stated, with a classy wink.

“And I!” Sidney Crosby chimed out. “I could use the adventure!”

“I will also join the mission, Montreal is exhausting and I don’t really want to go back and deal with Subban and his antics!” Carey Price sighed.

“I feel your pain man,” Patrice said, hitting his chest with his fist like a cool person.

Jamie and Jonathan shared a look. “Awesome!”

Russell stepped forward suddenly and everyone hushed and stared at him.

“Not only do you come here to ask a favor of us, but you bring in a Seahawk from the NFL?!” Zetterberg snarled, jumping to his feet and shoving his chair backward.

“Zetterberg sit down and shut up!” Sidney and Patrice snapped, getting to their feet as well.

“He’s right though, this is NHL only business! He’s not allowed and shouldn’t be here!” David Backes, the Blues leader argued.

Murmurs from other teams’ leaders rose up, including the Canucks’ Captain, Henrik Sedin. But Jamie Benn snapped at them, hushing them up once more. He had Russell’s back and it was welcome to see. Jonathan put an arm around Russell and welcomed him forward.

“I think he’s okay,” Sidney spoke up. “If Jonny trusts him, he’s okay for me!”

“Same here!” Patrice, Carey and Ryan added on.

“He helped me to save Kaner last time and he’ll help us again. He’s a good guy and he won’t do anything untoward!”

“Whatever Toes!” Zetterberg remarked, with a wave of his hand. He rolled his eyes and walked out of the conference room. “Chao losers! Next time, you’ll see me holding the Stanley Cup over my hairy head!”

“Not if my Blues kick your ass first, after we take care of the Hawks!” Backes snorted, darting after him.

“We don’t need their help. Everyone is dismissed,” Jonathan stated, shaking his head. “Except for Sid, Getz, Bergy, and Carey.”

The others split, leaving the meeting and the room. There was more chatter that erupted from them, but soon it was silent and only seven people remained. Jonathan faced the Penguins, Bruins, Montreal, and Ducks Captains. They dipped their heads respectfully and sat down in the chairs at the end of the table.

Notes

Zetterberg... :P I don't like Red Wings... And Blues too... (Oshie's cool though)
This is new for me, viewing any Canadien/Hab with a friendly look. I don't like it. But it's Carey Price, who even though is not showing his greatness this season, like he has in the past that made me actually like him, a Hab, he is still one of the best Habs!! Him and Sergei!
Therrien can suck it! And PK too! Divers...
ANYWAY, I thought this chapter might be funny. I hope it is.

Next up: Back to Notre Dame and our poor Seggy and Kanerboo...oh and a HUGE secret!!

But one thing: Toews has no sisters--he just has a brother, that's all. Patrick's the one who grew up with all the girls! ;)
