Because of Him

Chapter 6

James took me to a really nice coffee place that he comes to almost every morning before practice since he has moved to Pittsburgh. He told me that the boys said it was the best place to come and he is happy he trusted their opinion. We sat in a far corner of the shop. James had ordered both him and myself hot chocolates as he learnt that I don’t drink coffee. He teased me for a while, saying that “Coffee is made to keep people awake.” I fought back saying that “Sleep is made to keep people awake for longer periods of time then coffee.” He shutup quickly afterwards, saying he wasn’t going to argue with an up and coming lawyer. We spoke about our interests, he told me that he loved cars, and he didn’t mind playing golf and baseball every once in a while. He asked me about my interests, and I told him I didn’t have many. He said I was lying and asked me all different questions that his mind could think of. I asked him where he grew up and what his family was like and he asked me similar things. When I checked my watch I saw that it was already 11:00.
“James I need to get home, what if my parents have noticed im not there?” I panic.
“Calm down and say “Daddy, im 22 years old and I don’t need you telling me what to do all the time.” Simple.” He smiles.
“Oh no no. I could never say that.” I reply.
“Yes you can. You’re an adult now.” He smirks.
“But- no no i can’t.” I say shaking my head.
“What did I tell you about the word cant. There is no such word.” He smiles.
“5 more minutes, then please James can we go back home?” I sigh.
“5 more minutes is better then nothing.” He shrugs as we finish off our drinks. It wasn’t particularly that cold out yet, but it was starting to get chiller. So I quickly scurried to the car with James trailing. I stood at the door, wondering if I was driving again.
“Yeh, your driving.” He instructs opening the door for me.
I get in and start up the car again. I could get used to driving the Maserati all the time. It doesn’t take long to get back to my house and the conversation between James and I never ends. I have never felt so comfortable around someone I barely know in my whole life.
“I can get over by myself, I don’t want the risk of you being caught.” I say unbuckling my seat belt and opening the door.
“This is like some sort of romantic comedy.” James laughs, getting out of his side of the car.
“It is.” I laugh.
“But, I am walking you to your front door, or your balcony door. Whatever suits.” He states nervously.
“But this wasn’t a date?” I giggle.
He puts his hand on his heart, “That hurts deep Evelyn, real deep.” He says before cracking his signature smile.
“Come on.” He says climbing up onto the fence and extending his hand to help me. I sigh, then laugh and take his hand.
We run to the balcony of my bedroom and climb up the garden wall.
“I had fun.” I say awkwardly.
“Im glad.” He says back smiling. “When will I see you again?” He asks.
“Is there practice tomorrow?” I ask.
“Yeh.” He says leaning against the railing.
“Then I will see you then.” I say smiling shyly.
“Ok.” He smiles back.
“Evelyn! Can I come in!” I hear my mother shout from my door.
“Oh shit.” James says, already starting to climb over the railing.
“Ill see you tomorrow.” He whisper yells.
“I had fun.” I reply back slightly laughing.
“So did i.” He laughs back.
“Go.” I demand.
When I see that his down on the ground and running to the fence I close the balcony doors and sit under my bed sheets, taking off my clothes piece by piece under the covers and sitting up in my bed.
“Come in!” I yell.
“Hello honey!” She says walking over to the foot of my bed.
“Are you going to the ice rink with your father tomorrow or can we go get manicures together! Manicures sounds like the better option.” She asks.
I mentally roll my eyes and reply, “Oh sorry mother, I was planning on going with daddy tomorrow.”
“To the dumb ice rink?”
“Yes, to the dumb ice rink mother.”
“Well, whatever suits, im getting a manicure without you then.” She says leaving my room.
I finally get to roll my eyes once she leaves. I whip my head back onto the pillow laying down. The smile on my face starts off small, and grows to a huge grin. My hand goes to my mouth and a soft giggle escapes my mouth.

What is this boy doing to me?
