Nothing Lasts Forever
Emma stood in the mirror and fluffed her curls one last time and checked her makeup for a date that wouldn’t leave the house. She smoothes out her burgundy dress and slides on shoes; before descending the stairs. She sets the table and puts out the food before pouring 2 glasses of wine, when the door bell rings she gently puts the bottle down and makes her way to the door with a smile on her face. She opens it to reveal none other than Zach Parise he kisses her softly on the cheek and steps inside hanging up his coat.
As they eat dinner silently Emma can’t help but let her mind wonder to the first time she met the man sitting across from her at the table. She and a couple friends had gone out to a local bar the Minnesota Wild game had been playing on the TVs and now the room full of mostly men was celebrating the win. Just when it seemed like the crowd was going to return to their normal state the door opened and an uproar ensued, upon further inspection Emma noted a handful of the Wild players had walked through the doors.
It was probably an hour later when she felt eyes on her and turned to find Mr. hometown boy himself staring her down, she gave him a sweet smile as her friends behind chattered about him being married she just rolled her eyes and made her way towards the bar. The two talked and drank until last call and when he leaned in a whispered something in her ear she nodded even though she didn’t hear him, she desperately wanted to be an invitation home at that point she didn’t care that he was married nothing lasts forever right? And besides how could she say no to that face, those eyes, that smile that could win the world, especially intoxicated she’d consent to anything if he suggested it.
Now it was almost a year later, he had twins now on top of a wife, he clearly wasn’t going to leave his family for Emma, and she didn’t want him to, she already knew this wasn’t going to last when she met him. Then she thought it would be a one night stand, until 2 weeks later when he showed up at her house again and she found the words “nobody has to know” falling from her mouth as his kisses were trailing down her neck and his fingers were taking her hair out of a bun.
Dinner was ridiculously silent; Emma felt something in the pit of her stomach she didn’t like where this was going. Part of her knew already how this visit would end, this had to end sometime she could see the guilt eating away at his pretty smile. She at least wanted one more night, so she opened another bottle of wine, if his inhabitations were erased he wouldn’t leave before the morning , she needed one last night.
They lay in bed half asleep her head on his bare chest “I love my wife Emma” he says the words resonating in her ear from his chest like a knife right to hers
“I know you do” she says quietly
“I can’t keep doing this” he says his voice sounding tearful “I have kids, I love my wife, this isn’t right” she kisses him softly
“Don’t leave yet, please” she says her voice holding a tinge of a beg, her eyes search his “One more night, nobody has to know” she knew it wasn’t going to last forever she knew there would be a last kiss but her mind was wondering now, did she do enough that he would remember her? Five years from now would he see a daisy and think of the time they spent together, how it was her favorite flower? He interrupts her inner monologue with a deep kiss pulling her closer to him, how could this be so bad when it felt so right? His voice breaks her thoughts again in a soft whisper he echoes her thoughts “Nothing lasts forever, right?” she nods though her head disagrees because to her it was just getting good and now he was leaving.
“What’s on your mind?” he asks kissing her neck his thumb making small circles on her bare hip
“Say you’ll remember me” she blurts out, she didn’t want to she didn’t mean to at least not now, he freezes and looks into her eyes “I don’t care how just say you will, maybe watching a sun set, or sitting on the couch watching a movie, drinking wine, laughing at a joke, just remember me ok?” he nods his eyes never leaving hers “Maybe even on a long road trip” she says her voice just above a whisper biting her lip “remember us like this, tangled up in sheets all night. I hope this follows you, what we do, your hands in my hair, clothes strewn across my room” he kisses her hard and squeezes her hip
“In my wildest dreams” he says with a devious yet sad smile as he kisses her again.

I feel awful that I am so proud of this story, I also feel bad that it's ridiculously short , and yet I like it right at this length.
