"I wasn't your first kiss?" Thatcher asked as they walked into the kitchen.

Audrey sighed. "No, I kissed Joey like two weeks before it." She explained.

"You're a liar!" Thatcher cried.

"Thatcher, we were like 7, does it really matter?" She chuckled.

"Yeah! It does!" He screamed.

“Stop.” She hissed.

“Fuck you, Audrey.” He shook his head, walking away.

She shook her head at him as she walked into the kitchen. Her mom gave her a frown. Sam stared at her from the stool he was sitting on. She walked over and sat next to him. He didn’t say a word. She looked at his face. He looked mad. She growled. That got his attention. She leaned forward and into him. He just kept looking forward.

“So you’re mad at me?” She asked, crossing her arms.

He shook his head. “Not mad at you.”

“Mad about something.” She turned her body toward him.

“Audrey, let it be.” He said, finally looking at her.

“”Would it kill you to talk to me for once?” She spat.

“Listen. everything is fine.” He smiled, grabbing her face and kissing her forehead.

He stood up and walked out of the kitchen. Audrey watched him until he was out of view. She heard him hopping down the stairs to the basement. She stood to follow him but Nicole stepped in front of her. Audrey huffed. Her mom pulled her into a hug. She hugged her back.

“He’s just frustrated because of Thatcher.” Nicole stroked her hair. “He’s not mad at you or because of you.”

“Thatcher’s such a fucking asshole.” Audrey exhaled. “Sorry.” She apologized for her swearing.

“Thatcher is definitely an asshole.” Nicole chuckled. “But your boyfriend isn’t. He cares a lot and that’s why he’s so upset.”

Audrey nodded. She went upstairs after that. She laid on her bed for a bit. It had been four days now that Sam had not laid in it with her. She let out a sigh. She rolled off it, standing up. She went to her dresser. She grabbed one of Sam’s team hoodies and some Nike shorts she had. She went into the washroom and took the hottest shower she could handle. She finished, dried off, and got dressed. After she brushed her hair and finished her routine, she walked back downstairs. Nicole was sitting in the living room. She looked up at Audrey.

“I’m just gonna go say goodnight to him.” She said, brushing past her mom.

Nicole nodded. Audrey walked over to the basement door. She took a deep breath as she opened it. Her mom was right. Sam didn’t talk about how he felt with Audrey often because he was always showing it. She stepped down onto the first step. Did he really want to see her right now? She shrugged. He’d have to deal. She took another three steps and stopped again. She let out her deep breath.

“Sammy?” She called.

“Yeah?” He replied.

“Can I come down?” She asked, biting her lip.

“Of course.” He scoffed.

She rolled her eyes with a smile. She finished her trip down the stairs. He was sitting on the edge of his bed in just sweatpants. Fuck. She stopped at the bottom of the stairs. He was on his phone. He looked up at her with a small smile. She was gripping her one hand with her other. Her grip was so tight that she could feel her wrist snapping. He locked his phone and placed it beside him. He leaned back on his hands, staring at her. He still made her blush.

“What’s up?” He chimed.

“I just wanted to come say goodnight.” She shrugged. “So goodnight.” She turned to the stairs.

“Um, excuse me.” He stopped her. “You’re forgetting something.”

She turned to face him with a confused expression. He had a grin on his face. He puckered his lips, pointing to them. She rolled her eyes with a laugh. She walked over to him. He pulled her on top of him by her waist. She wrapped her arms around his neck while his slid under the sweater she was wearing, and around her waist. He let out a long breath. She craned her neck back to look at him. He smiled at her.

“I love you.” He spoke, pecking her lips.

“I love you too.” She sang before kissing him.

It turned into a small make out session. She explained her mom was gonna get curious if she didn’t go back up soon. He understood and finally let her go. She pecked his lips once more as she walked upstairs. Nicole looked up from the magazine she was reading and smiled at Audrey. Audrey walked over and hugged her mom. Nicole hugged back, unsure. Audrey kissed her cheek before walking upstairs.

The next day, Audrey and Sam drove to school together. They managed to get in a kiss before going to their classes that were apart. Cameras were all throughout the school so they had to be careful. Audrey glared at people that tried to jump in the way of the cameras. They wouldn’t be as cheerful if they always had one on them. Audrey went to the rink for her spare. There was another practice tonight. She just scrolled on her phone until the guys started to show up.

Sam came and sat with her as he re-taped his stick. She ended up doing it for him. He looked around for a camera and kissed her before running off to the changeroom. He was in a lot better of a mood since the day before. The guys started going on the ice. Sam was mature enough to shoot on Eric, rather than going near Thatcher. But Thatcher made sure to ask Eric to swap out so he could be the one Sam was shooting on. Sam ignored him for the most part.

“I bet it drives you crazy knowing that I’ll always have one up on you.” Thatcher smirked as Sam skated toward him. Sam shot and it went wide. “I’ll always be the first guy Audrey wanted.

Sam just kept doing his thing. Thatcher wasn’t entirely wrong. Sam hated that Thatcher was there for most of Audrey’s firsts.Thatcher didn’t deserve to be there for anything in anyone’s life, especially not Audrey’s. Sam looked over to where Audrey was sitting. She was shaking her head at Thatcher. She could see what Thatcher was doing. She looked to Sam and frowned. He winked at her.

Dustin whistled for the guys to skate over. Thatcher made sure he raced up to Sam. He lifted his helmet. He was still running his mouth as they approached the huddle. He stood at the back with Sam. Sam was blocking Thatcher out the best he could, listening to Dustin’s instructions. Thatcher was just going on about all the things he was there for that Sam wasn’t.

Her first time.” Thatcher hummed. Sam looked over his shoulder at him a bit. “Oh, that’s the one that gets to you, huh? The fact that I took her virginity.”

Sam took a deep breath. Dustin told them to start what he told them to do. Sam asked if he could go to the change room to fix a piece of equipment. Dustin let him. Sam skated to the door. He slammed it open. His eyes drifted to Audrey’s. He slammed the door shut. She shot up, chasing after him. He threw open the change room door. She followed behind him. He threw his stick, gloves, and helmet.

“What’s wrong?” She frowned, grabbing his arms.

He shrugged her off and spun to face her. “You fucked Thatcher?”

Her face fell. “How did you find out?” She whispered.

“How do you think, Audrey?” He yelled. “You didn’t think to tell me?”

“I didn’t think it mattered!” She defended.

“You lost your virginity to him!” He chuckled. “That matters!”

“But it doesn’t! It means nothing to me!” She hollered. She grabbed his face. “I’m with you, I love you. I was never with Thatcher in anyway like this and I never fucking loved him.”

“He just knows so much more about you than I do.” Sam growled. sitting down.

“No, he knows eight year old me. You know me now more than anyone else.” She stated. “Don’t let him upset you. That’s what he wants from you.”

He nodded, standing up. He kissed her before grabbing the things he threw. She tapped his butt as he walked out. She followed behind him. Sam skated over to where he was supposed to be for the drill. Audrey watched him laughing and joking around with the guys. He did his portion of the drill and scored over Thatcher’s shoulder. Thatcher switched out with Zach.

“Scored on me like I scored on Audrey.” He sang. “Did she tell you all about it in the changeroom?”

“Nope, just said it didn’t mean anything.” Sam shrugged.

“So you didn’t get to hear about how she begged me t,”

Sam swung and punch Thatcher directly in the nose. Thatcher grabbed his face, blood dripping from his nose. The drill came to the halt. Dustin raced over, he pushed them apart. Jamie grabbed Sam, pulling him towards the changeroom. Audrey was waiting at the door for him. Jamie shoved him off the ice.

“Sam, what the fuck?” She cried.

He just gave her a look as he walked back to the changeroom. She let out a growl. Thatcher was being helped off the ice, hunched over, holding his face. Jagr grabbed him as he stepped off the ice. Thatcher looked over at Audrey. He chuckled, standing up straight.

“Your boyfriend has an insane right hook.” He teased, blood all over his face.

“You’re such a fucking asshole, Thatcher.” She hissed.

Jagr took Thatcher off somewhere else. Dustin called an early end to practice. Sam was already out and changed when the rest of the guys came off. Audrey grabbed all her things and chased after him. She came out of the arena doors as he was putting his bag in the trunk. She stomped over. He came to the driver’s side and sighed.

“Are you alright?” She asked, putting her bag on his hood and grabbing his hand to check his knuckles.

“I’m fine.” He groaned as she ran her fingers over it.

“What was that about?” She frowned up at him.

“He just had to keep going on about you and him. I just,” He stopped himself. “Can you get a ride home with someone? I just need to be by myself for a bit.”

She nodded. “Of course. Are you coming home tonight?” She rubbed his arm.

“I might go stay with Griffin and Max, just for the night.” He told her, leaning forward to kiss her head.

“Call me when you get there. I love you.” She said, looking up at him.

He kissed her lips. “I love you too. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

She nodded before walking back into the arena. She walked right to where Jagr was stitching up Thatcher. Thatcher was sitting alone on the table. He was out of his equipment now and just in his Under Armour. He looked over at Audrey when she walked in. He had his nose stuffed with cotton. Sam had broken skin, not the bone. Thatcher gave her a grin.

“Coming to ch,”

“Look, I don’t know what your problem is, I don’t care. Just stop trying to fuck with Sam and trying to get to him by using me.” She spat. “I don’t know why you’re so fixated on what happened with us in the past, but you do not need to use that to fuck with my relationship. If you’re not as big of a piece of shit as I think you are, you’ll stop trying to ruin the one thing that makes me happy.”

“That’s n,”

“I don’t care. Just do not talk to Sam.” She warned. “Don’t even talk to me.”

She walked out of the room after that. She found her dad and told him what was going on with Sam. Dustin nodded before telling her they were gonna head out. Both were silent the ride home. Audrey was frustrated with Thatcher and shocked at Sam. Dustin was just confused. Thatcher and Sam were both good kids. What need would Sam have to punch Thatcher? They pulled into the driveway. Audrey walked inside first. Dustin walked in and the four younger kids ran over to greet him. He walked into the kitchen to see his wife.

“You’re not gonna believe what happened today.” Dustin sighed, grabbing a beer.

“Sam dropped Thatcher.” Audrey stated.

“What? Why? Where is he?” Nicole spat.

“He went to stay with his brothers.” Audrey exhaled. “I’m going upstairs. Call me down when dinner’s ready.”

Audrey hopped upstairs. She threw herself onto her bed. She laid there for a bit, just staring up at her ceiling. Her phone buzzed from her purse. She grabbed it. Thatcher sent her a giant apology. She read it but didn’t bother replying. He didn’t deserve that. There was a knock on her door before it opened a bit. Dustin poked his head in before coming in the rest of the way.

“I just wanted to see if you knew what happened with Sam and Thatch today.” He asked, sitting on the edge of her bed.

She sat up. “I have no idea. I’m just as confused as you are.”

“They’re just both decent kids. I thought they were friends.” He shook his head.

Her eyes widened. “Uh, yeah.” She hesitated.

He narrowed his eyes at her. “Audrey, what do you know?” He poked. She frowned. “Tell me.”

“I lost my virginity to Thatcher like four years ago and he keeps bringing it up to Sam. It gets Sam really upset because he lost his virginity to me and he doesn’t like to think about the other guys I’ve been with. So Sam was getting annoyed, so I tried to calm him down and I thought he was fine but of course, Thatcher fucking Demko had to make just one more comment and Sam snapped and now here we are!” She took a deep breath.

Dustin just stared at her, wide eyed. “I’m gonna go get your mom.”
