My Hero

Chapter 4

"Tyler?" It took me a moment for words to form and come out of my mouth, I was in so much shock. "What are you doing here?"

"I may or may not be a guest at this wedding?" He said, scared of what reaction I might have.

"Why? Huh? What?" Questions started pouring out of my mouth. I was just so confused.

"Okay listen. Vincent, the groom-"

"Yeah I know who Vincent is I planned the wedding." I snarled, starting to get angrier. Weddings were one place I could go to get away from the outside world, and in this case, almost getting raped last night.

"Okay. Vincent is a season ticket sales person for the Stars, and when I came here from Boston, I was really confused, and he kinda helped me out around the arena and Dallas. Somehow we just ran into each other and stayed friends ever since. I'm the only player here Sarah."

I could tell I was about to start a scene, so I pulled Tyler out of the Cocktail hour and towards the foyer of the venue to be in private with him.

"If you were invited to this wedding- how come you didn't tell me at lunch today? I told you I planned a wedding here, at this venue, tonight. Why didn't you just say you were going to the wedding tonight?" I said, very confused.

"I.. I don't know to be honest." He smiled, "I didn't want to freak you out."

"Freak me out?" I whispered. It was either whispering or yelling, take your pick.

"I really don't know Sarah. I'm a guy, an idiot. And when I heard that you were gonna be here tonight, I just got excited that I was gonna see you again, so I wanted to make it a surprise.

Okay. That was sweet.

"Still seems pretty sketchy." I said, starting to become less angry because of his nice reasoning, "Guest or not, it is unprofessional of me to be flirting with the guests."

"Flirting?" Tyler smiled, wide eyed, while shoving his hand in his pockets. I guess that must be a nervous trait of his.

I didn't say anything -just smiled once I saw the bride with her new groom coming through the main entrance. Erica's face lit up once she saw me and she ran over to me engulfing me in a huge huge.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" She beamed a tear running down her face, "It is incredible!"

"Erica!" I laughed, "It's my job, you don't have to thank me a million times!"

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Vincent doing that thing that guys do where they shake hands and then it turns into a hug, with no one else but Tyler. Damn, I was wishing that Tyler lied about the whole thing so I could prove him wrong.

Erica stepped back with her groom, arm and arm, and looked at Tyler and I. It took Vincent a moment to realize that we were just alone together, and Erica was in her own world looking at everything.

"You guys know each other?" Vincent asked us.

"Well.. Kinda, we just met a day or so ago. Weird coincidence." I smiled and Tyler nodded.

"Hey, Tyler's a great kid. I approve. He's a little slow but give him some time, he will grow on you." Vincent winked.

"No no its not like-" My response to Vincent was cut off by the D.J's announcement that the cocktail hour was over and the guests could move into the main dining area. Erica and Vincent were gone in a flash, probably to make their way around the room to thank each individual guest.

Tyler and I followed, not really saying anything.

"Do you know where to sit?" I asked Tyler, clutching "the folder" and walking towards the dining area and dance floor."

"Uhhh.." Tyler began. I knew he didn't. Ugh- men and weddings are the worst mix. I quickly walked over to the table that held the name cards and saw the last card:

Tyler Seguin
Table 10

I rolled my eyes and handed him the last card. "Thanks" he mouthed. I nodded, still a little bit annoyed that he didn't give me a heads up before coming. I showed him to the table and also went to check on the DJ and the food.

I made sure that the DJ had the correct set list that Erica had requested and the equipment was working. I also went over to the kitchen to the chef to also make sure that he had prepared the right number of entrees.

I walked out of the kitchen. The space was huge. About 15 tables that each held ten guests. In the middle of all of the room was a gigantic dance floor. The room was beautifully set up, thanks to me. On each table was a tall vase with white flowers and gold tinted leaves. The black chairs and curtains really made the gold pop.

I stood at the back of the room, I usually stand here and wait until about an hour into the wedding, after the food has been served, and the guests are starting to take the dance floor.

I walked around the room about 3 times, handing out my cards to many Texan fiancees and their grooms to be as they looked around the room, hoping that I was not already planning a wedding the weekend they wanted to get married.

I stood at the open bar and ordered myself a seltzer with lime. A slow song came on, "A Thousand Years" and I grabbed my drink and headed back to the rest of the room. Along with the bride walking in, the first dance was also one of my favorite parts. The way the bride and groom are in their own little seperate world, and not caring about the other couples that join them. I sipped my seltzer from the back of the room and smiled.

"Would you like to dance?" Tyler said, popping out of no where.

"No." I said, plainly.

I could tell I hurt his ego there, but he smiled nonetheless. "And why is that?"

I took my eyes off of the bride and groom and answered him. "Because my job is not to dance with the guests. It is to plan the wedding. If you wanna dance, that bridesmaid over there has been trying to get in your pants the whole evening."

I couldn't help but notice a tall, ginger bridesmaid, Lucy I think her name was, had been staring at Tyler the whole night. Every time she got near him, I could tell she got nervous. I also knew she knew that he was a Stars player from the moment she walked in.

"Yeah, I know." Tyler said, sadly while sighing.

"You know?"

"I'm kinda used to it know. Probably a puck bunny or something." He stated.

"Puck what?"

"Bunny. Girls that try to sleep with NHL players." He spoke without taking his eyes off Lucy.

"Then go dance with her." I very meanly stated while looking down at my phone, scrolling through Instagram for the 5th time that night.

"Ok I will." Tyler had a sarcastic tone. Sarcasm was my thing.

"Ok you do that Tyler."

And with that Tyler had walked away with me. I could see him mouth out the word "Dance?" to Lucy. She nodded right away and he led her to the dance floor. Another slow song came on and he held her waist as she held onto his shoulders. They were going to nicely to the music, and Tyler even spun her around. Lucy seemed estatic, but the whole time, Tyler never took his eyes off of me.

And deep, deep, deep down I felt a twang of jealousy towards Lucy.
