One-Shots (2014-2015 Season)

Drunk In Vegas

Inspired by this post: http://evelynakitty.tumblr.com/post/122449846382/kanewewinit-after-the-nhl-awards-jamie-benn-and

Jonathan Toews walked out of the NHL Awards, after he’d been pointed at and basically been made fun of by Rob Riggle for having a ‘difficult name’. He was still gripping tightly to the Stanley Cup as he made his way - finally - into the main room where the others were. He set the Cup down on its stand and spotted the awkwardly shy captain for the Dallas Stars. Jamie Benn was staying to the side and giving occasional smiles and awkward looks at people.

Jonathan knew Jamie well now and knew that he was a good guy and a talented player. But the younger Benn brother was also terribly shy and wasn’t good with making speeches, the exact opposite of his linemate in Tyler Seguin. Nevertheless, Jonathan wanted to make Jamie feel welcome and loved.

“Hey there Jamie, congrats on winning the Art Ross,” the Blackhawk remarked, flashing a sweet smile.

Jamie looked at his feet and shuffled them. “Yeah, thanks I guess. Uh, congrats on winning the Cup and the Messier Leadership Award, you’re truly a remarkable player and person.” He began to blush red in his cheeks.

Jonathan patted him on the shoulder. “That means a lot from you. You’re one of a kind Jamie Benn and the Stars are lucky to have you as the captain. You are doing well leading the team and getting much better at public speaking.”

“Yeah...everyone always has to make me seem awkward. I love having Tyler with me to help me out with speeches and all. He’s really opened me up. But I still don’t like public speaking.”

“And you know me with Kaner!” Jonathan remarked and elbowed the Star in the shoulder. “Though Kaner’s much more mature now than he once was.”

“Speaking of Kane, where is he?” Jamie asked, suddenly gathering his confidence and looking the Blackhawk in the eye.

“He’s out partying in Vegas. We came together and I made the mistake of letting him wander off. How about Seguin?” Jonathan responded.

“Same thing, he may have found Patrick and the two of them are out partying together,” Jamie stated, pinching the bridge of his nose. He let out a long, heavy sigh. “This isn’t good...Tyler’s not supposed to get drunk!”

Jonathan looked at Jamie and nodded. “Kaner too.”

“We have to go find them and stop them before they do something bad!” Jamie remarked. “I don’t want Tyler getting in trouble with Lindy again because he slipped up.”

“And I don’t want fans - or anyone really - calling for Kaner’s head because he had another drunken mishap. He’s like a little brother to me, I really care about him.”

“Well what are we waiting for, I’m sure everyone will still be here when we get back. And I’m sure they won’t mind us leaving for a little bit.”

Jonathan nodded. He glanced back at the Cup, sitting on the stand but then turned back to Jamie wearing a stern and determined face. “Kaner’s health, safety and life is more important than the Cup...let’s go find our friends!”

Jamie and Jonathan snuck out of main room, slipping between a distracted PK Subban and Ryan Getzlaf. Getzlaf had an arm draped around PK’s shoulders. He was laughing obnoxiously and acting like PK was his best bud. Luckily it was enough for the Star and Blackhawk to sneak out and hail a cab.

They hopped into one and took off.

“So where would those two party hounds be?” Jamie asked, turning to Jonathan.

“Oh no, I think Tyler would lead the way on this one,” Jonathan joked, cracking a slightly playful smirk.

Jamie screwed his face up in thought. “Yeah, you’re probably right. Tyler’s the one who always finds the parties! Let’s see, the bigger the party, the better...so we should try checking the larger ones.”

“Okay, Jamie, have you ever been to Vegas before? Every party is a big one! They are probably ‘party hopping’. At this rate we’ll never find them...we should start with just guessing one and going from there.”

“Yeah…” Jamie leaned back against his seat and sighed. “But where?”

Jonathan stroked his chin and thought about that. Then he blinked and leaned forward in his seat and poked his head through the glass barrier. “Hey...uh, do you happen to know where the most rad Vegas parties are?”

Jamie bit his lip and looked out the window. As much as Tyler Seguin WAS a party hound, Jamie was NOT. Jonathan looked at him, while the driver hit the wheel of the cab car and headed down a side street onto another one and toward a cluster of people.

“Thanks sir,” Jonathan remarked.

The two captains got out of the cab car and hurried into the building that was alive with noise. They tried their best to make it around the place, looking for Tyler and Patrick, but didn’t find either of them. At one point Jamie found himself on the stage where the DJ was, dressed in his suit and tie and looking around the partiers for his teammate. However, there was no Tyler Seguin or Patrick Kane present.

“I don’t think they are here!” Jamie called to his Blackhawk friend.

Jonathan was busy chatting to a barely clad blonde female. He was nodding to her and finally turned to Jamie, who was hopping off the stage. He was smiling. “Good news is she said that Tyler was here...and Patrick was with him. Apparently Tyler had his shirt off--”

“Classic Segs.” Jamie laughed.

“The bad news is that they were here an hour go...so they could be across Vegas by now!”

“Great…” Jamie frowned.

They two hockey players exited the party, pushing through the throngs of partiers that blocked the exit. But they eventually made it out and headed toward the next one.

“Guess we’ll just have to frequent all the parties, until we find them. But let’s start maybe on the fourth...if they weren’t in the first and that was an hour ago and they are ‘party hopping’, my guess is they are further along,” Jonathan sighed. “So come on Jamie!”

Jamie trudged after Jonathan. He really wasn’t enjoying this. When they found Tyler, he’d make sure to give him a piece of his mind. He may be getting better with his social behavior, but he wasn’t ready for parties yet. And Tyler knew that.

However, Patrick and Jonathan were so similar that Jonathan didn’t mind this adventure. And he was determined to find his teammate.

They headed into the fourth party, which was apart of the string along the street. Repeating what they did in the first party setting, they quickly discovered the two weren’t in this party either. So they made their way back out and into the next party. But for the next four parties they toured, Patrick and Tyler were no where in sight. As they made their way into the seventh party, in a building labeled “The Jazz Cat Bar”, a familiar scream reached Jamie’s ears.

“That’s Tyler!”

Another scream came. Jonathan perked up and looked at Jamie.

“And that’s Kaner!”

They pushed their way in kindly and found a small hole, where they stood up on their tip-toes and attempted to look in the direction of the voices. Sure enough, just to the front of the DJ’s stage, they both saw Tyler, who was hanging onto Patrick. In his hand he had a half empty glass of beer.

“Oh no, he’s already intoxicated!” Jamie exclaimed. He began to push through the crowd, toward Tyler and Patrick, who were sloppily gripping one another like friends, while doing some kind of hula dance. Jamie reached them first and pulled Tyler off of Patrick, who was grabbed by Jonathan.

Tyler and Patrick were still laughing, barely hanging on and stringing words together as they attempted to speak. Jamie knocks the glass from Tyler’s hand in a fury.

“Hey Jamie whatareyoudoinghere...you’re so pretty...withyoursuitandtie!” Tyler managed, clinging onto Jamie, who guided him through the crowd and back to the exit. “Did you win the-the uh…”

“No.”

Jonathan draped Patrick’s arm around his shoulder and grabbed Patrick’s chin with his hand forcing the blond to look at him. “I’m very disappointed in you.” Then he hobbled after Jamie with Patrick, who stumbled along with him.

Jamie and Tyler reached the exit and Jamie set Tyler on the ground outside and began to grill him with a nice speech. Jonathan was shocked at how angry and talkative the Dallas Star was. He saw Tyler hiccup and fall backward, before he was grabbed by Jamie and propped up by his captain.

“Don’t you EVER listen to Tyler Seguin again!” Jonathan yelled at Patrick, slamming him against the wall, behind where Jamie was with Tyler.

Patrick shoved him back. “I was having some fun! Lighten up Jonny! Geez, this is fucking Vegas man!”

“Save it, Kaner, you’re lucky that Jamie and I found you both before you did something you’d both regret. You can have fun, but not at the expense of alcohol.” Jonathan grabbed his collar and spun him around, forcing him to walk down the sidewalk.

Patrick caught himself and looked up at his friend. “Look Jonny I didn’t drink that much. I know my limit...Tyler though…”

In the background, he heard Jamie scream, “How many women did you flirt with?”

There was a hiccup and then, “Now-now Jamie...I-I-I...rainbows and unicorns make mesohappy.” Then there was a loud thud.

Jonathan and Patrick spun to see Tyler lying on his back, dazed. He was looking at the sky and pointing. “I see pizza and Hart Trophies!” Jamie sighed and grabbed Tyler’s arms and yanked him up to his feet.

They headed over to where Patrick and Jonathan were. The two Blackhawks were sharing a look. Jamie shook his head.

“Look, Tyler’s not a professional at holding alcohol...as you can see.”

“Yeah, he told me he could handle it...guess you shouldn’t trust Tyler Seguin.”

“Hey-hey Kaner,” Tyler began to say, before hiccuping again. “You’re agoodfriend andthebest!”

“Yeah, thanks. Okay, I see the problem here….Tyler’s drunk.”
