Irish Thanksgiving

'Kieran's POV'

With Tyler having already been to my parent's house I didn’t have to chauffer the dorks on Thanksgiving. Which was a good thing because I needed to update my mom on the J&K situation before Jamie and Tyler arrived. I dressed in maroon jeggings, a black V-neck with a black and white tribal cardigan, and black combat boots, lightly curled the ends of my hair and placed my gold and maroon Michael Kors watch on my wrist. Before leaving for the burbs I sent Tyler a text, *Don't be late Seguin :P* he replied immediately, *Like I'd forget about food, Jamie's already here anyway.* I smiled at my phone like an idiot, I am so lucky to have those two guys in my life.

I arrived at my parent's around 2 o'clock, we've had the same house since moving to Dallas a pretty big 2 story house with a 2 car garage and a wrap-around porch, typical southern style. My parents have worked hard their entire lives to own nice things, my dad is a biomedical engineer and my mom is a nurse practitioner, they know the value of a dollar. When I arrived I found my mom and aunt Sarah in the kitchen finishing up dinner, hugs were given and I was told the men were hiding in the basement AKA the man cave.

As they finished cooking I sat at the bar and gave my mom the update on Jamie and I. My aunt however was in the dark to who Jamie actually was, sure they knew my neighbor was Tyler Seguin but they didn’t know he and the captain were coming for dinner. I'm sure my uncle Patrick, who is a HUGE Stars fan, is going to shit when they walk through the door. When I was done telling my mom the details she kissed my cheek, "Proud of you Kier, I think I already like him." I smiled, God I hope they all like him! What's not to like?

Eventually I wandered downstairs to the cave, finding my brother Kilian and my cousins Luca and Sadie playing Xbox while my dad and uncle played pool. My family loved to have fun, even on holidays. I sat on the couch next to Kilian, "So where's the Stars?" I laughed, "They'll be here at 4 I think." Luca perked up, "The Stars? Like DALLAS STARS?" Sadie shoved him, "Calm down fangirl, they're normal guys." Sadie's 17 and plays on my volleyball team therefore she had already met Tyler. I couldn’t help but laugh at the two kids, they're my only cousins so we're pretty close. "Yeah Luc, the Dallas Stars, Seguin and Benn are coming for dinner. Your dad's going to freak."

We all laughed and agreed to keep the secret from Patrick that they were coming just to see his reaction. After visiting for a while longer my phone vibrated with a new message, Jamie. *Almost there* I got off the couch with a smile on my face, "Ooh, boyfriend must be here." Kilian said in a girly tone. I shot him a death glare, "He is not my boyfriend Kilian Fitzpatrick." He held his hands up in defense and the two teenagers laughed beside him.

I jogged up the stairs and stopped in the bathroom for a last look before greeting the boys. My hair was still wavy, and my makeup still looked good, I straightened my cardigan and walked to the front door. It was a cloudy day with the temps around 55, in the South we call this "chilly". I pulled my cardigan around my body and walked out onto the porch to wait for the boys. I looked around taking in my "childhood" home, one day I'd have a house out of the city somewhere with a backyard so I could have a couple dogs of my own.

My daydream was cut short when I saw Tyler pull up in his car. The two guys got out of the car and walked up the driveway, Jamie got to me first on purpose most likely, he pulled me into a long hug. We were interrupted by an annoyed Tyler "Ahem," he coughed, and we pulled apart "Hi Ty" I said hugging him lightly. I stopped them both just before going in the door, "Everyone but my Aunt and Uncle know who you guys are, and well my uncle's probably going to shit, so you've been warned." They smiled and nodded knowing this was going to be a fun dinner.

Walking in the kitchen I found my mom and aunt drinking wine and just talking as they waited for the food to finish, "Hey Mom," she turned to look in my direction and my aunt looked over at me and my two friends. I could faintly hear her mutter "Holy shit." under her breath. My mom got out of her chair to greet the boys, she hugged Tyler first "Nice to see you again sweetheart" she told him as they separated, "you too Renee" Tyler responded. I looked over at Jamie, placing a hand on his bicep, "Mom, this is Jamie." She smiled at him largely, "Ah, Jamie it's nice to finally meet you." she said giving him a hug, "Sorry we're huggers" my mom said laughing as she pulled away.

He let out a chuckle, "Fine by me, Mrs. O'" My mother cut him off, "No, no Mrs. O'Reilly is my mother-in-law and thankfully she's in Ireland. call me Renee." "Mom!" I scolded her for making fun of my Nana, she blushed "Oh, calm down Kieran I love the woman but holidays are much easier when they're not here." I rolled my eyes and walked away from my mother taking the boys with me, "Welcome to my dysfunctional Irish family." I said as we walked downstairs. As we approached the bottom I warned them once more about my Uncle who was bound to freak out.

As promised when my uncle Patrick noticed that Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin were in the same house as him he nearly fainted. "Holy shit." he yelled as he saw them talking to his kids and nephew, I could hear my dad laughing at him his Irish accent prevalent as he spoke, "Did we not mention Kieran was bringing her friends?" Patrick was in shock, "You did, but failed to mention her friends are professional hockey players." When I finally introduced my dad and Uncle Patrick to Jamie and Tyler he had calmed down a bit, but he still managed to be your typical embarrassing uncle asking which one of them was my boyfriend.

My dad looked between me and the two boys, "Neither, right Kier," he asked, I'm sure my mother had told him what was going on. I felt my face heat up "Uhh, right dad." I stuttered out. Leaving the two boys to talk hockey with my uncle, I got a beer out refrigerator and sat down on the couch with Sadie. I took a long sip from the bottle, closing my eyes until Sadie spoke. "So you and Jamie huh?" I looked over at her, "We're not together Sade." She rolled her green eyes, "Uh huh, I see the way he looks at you in fact he's looking right now, and you're blushing left and right around him." I took another drink and nudged her with my shoulder, "I don’t need relationship advice from a 17 year old." She got off the couch, "Whatever you say coach," and with that she was up the stairs.

Dinner went surprisingly smooth, no one interrogated my friends about their careers or questioned my relationship status with Jamie. In fact Kilian took most of the heat for not having a girlfriend or being married at his age, poor guy's only 28 but my parents think that he's behind. The only thing that actually went wrong during discussion was the fact that I had neglected to tell Jamie that my birthday was coming up on December 5th. Tyler knew and well we aren't together so I didn't think it was necessary. I was clearly wrong, when my mom asked me what I was planning to do for my birthday he shot me a gaze across the table. "Oh, uh I'm not sure it’s on a Friday so I guess go out." I tried to avoid making myself the center of attention, but continued to fail. With my impending birthday, boards, and graduation everyone wanted to know about my life. I answered questions left and right trying to dodge the ones about boards, I hated talking about them I was already nervous enough.

The only question I like was if I was excited for Ireland. My grandparents had sent Kilian to Ireland the summer after he graduated college as a reward and were doing the same for me, I couldn't wait to get back to my roots. Ireland would always be home. Jamie's head shot up when my uncle asked me about my trip, "So Kier, how long are you staying in Ireland?" he had asked me. I smiled at the mention of the country I loved, "Depends on if the center offers me a job or if I'll be unemployed after graduation. At the least 2 weeks, but I'm hoping for a month."

Nobody but my family knew about the trip, it was a shock to Tyler and Jamie. I didn’t think it was a big deal though, by then hockey would be over and they would be back in Canada.
Dinner was over and the guys retreated to the man cave to watch the Cowboys game, while the 4 of us women stayed in the kitchen to clean up. My mind was off trying to figure out the looks Jamie was giving me during dinner, "Hey Kieran," my mom asked "Yeah?" "You can go honey, I can see that you need to talk to him." I smiled at my mom, she always knew.

I walked downstairs and saw Jamie sitting at the bar with Luca, I stood beside him and wrapped my arm around his waist "Can I borrow you for a little while?" He smiled at me, "Uh, yeah." He followed me up the stairs and I led him out onto the back porch. I leaned my back against the wooden railing as Jamie faced me, "Sorry you got all of that dropped on you like that, you look like you've got some questions?" He ran his fingers through his hair, "A couple, first though we're going to dinner on your birthday just you and me." I smiled, "Okay." He reached for my hands pressing our palms together and lacing our fingers, "And second, Ireland? That's going to be amazing!" I couldn't help but smile even bigger, "Yeah, I've been waiting for it since I was 19 when Kil got to go. I haven't been to Dublin for a long time."

I shivered in the cool Texas breeze, and Jamie pulled me into him kissing my forehead gently. "Thanks for today Kier, the Irish are pretty cool." I tilted my head back and laughed, "Anytime, they like you a lot, maybe more than Tyler." I winked at him and he smiled, I could have kissed him right then but I felt like kissing him on my parents back porch was just a little too high school. Pulling away from the embrace I tugged his hands, "Come on, I'm cold."

'Jamie's POV'

God, why didn't I just kiss her?! She was so close, right where I wanted her the perfect moment a little cliche on the back porch of her parent's house but I still should have done it. Spending the whole day with Kieran and her family made me realize that she was everything I wanted, I just had to convince her that I was what she wanted too. Slowly but surely I would get that girl to fall in love with me, I needed that beautiful Irish girl in my life and in my arms.

Notes

Jamie's got the family approval, now all he needs is to get the girl! Is she going to give in soon!?
We'll see tomorrow :) xoxo -Ally
