Prove Me Wrong.

Ink pens, coffee cups, highlighters, and stacks of medical books now litter my entire apartment. I vowed to myself on the first day of February that it was time to crack down, with just over 2 months until boards it was go time. So these days when I'm not actually practicing medicine at the clinic I'm studying it, if I'm not studying I am sleeping, hell sometimes I even sleep in my books. Not by choice of course, but it has now happened more times than I can count, either Jamie or Tyler would find me asleep sitting at the island in my kitchen with my face in a book or a binder. They find it to be pretty hilarious, but it's really quite sad. In fact it happened just yesterday, Jamie came home from a roadtrip at 3 in the morning, and found me passed out face first in my feline study book. I was awoken as I was being pulled out of my chair and carried to bed, God bless those hockey muscles.

On the outside I am trying to hold myself together trying not to show the fear that I am currently drowning in. I still go to the Stars games to try and get my mind off things but during intermissions I find myself taking quizzes on my iPad. Internally I am a whole other story, I am constantly worried about this stupid test, the last 8 years of my life are coming down to this one test and I am not ready.

All I've known my whole life is school, and I've always been good at it until now when it finally counts. Thus far Jamie's been pretty understanding, he watches game film while I study he even attempts to quiz me sometimes but I can tell he wants the fun me back. And frankly so do I. But I can't say that he hasn’t changed either, with the season winding down the team is frantic to make the playoffs. Jamie feels most of the stress as captain, so between the two of us we're a hot mess.

Before I would really miss when the team was on the road, but now it's a lot easier just me and Marshall. He doesn’t talk, (except for to Tyler on Skype which is still weird if you ask me) and therefore leaves me alone to study without feeling like a terrible girlfriend. Other than crashing at each other's places Jamie and I haven't gone out since we got back from Mexico, and the cliché Valentine's Day date is already out the window because Jamie has a game in Colorado that night. Or so I thought, with a game on Friday night and an immediate flight after to Colorado I assumed that Jamie and I were not celebrating the in my opinion ridiculous holiday of Valentine's Day. Boy was I wrong.

Thursday at work I was delivered a bouquet of red and white roses in a mason jar, they were beautiful and I was shocked. I had just been with Jamie that morning and he had not given any indication about our plans for the evening. Tied to the jar was an envelope, that read "Kier" in Jamie's chicken scratch - looks like he had been playing delivery boy today after practice.

"I know you don’t care that we're missing out on Valentine's Day but I do, so follow the instructions and I'll see you tonight! Happy early Valentine's Day! I love you, - Jamie

Finish your last surgery, (please God don’t let there be an emergency) and go straight home. You'll find your next clue there. :)"

The key word there was INSTRUCTIONS, plural. This was going to be a scavenger hunt, damn Jamie and his love for surprises! Doing as I was told I finished my last surgery for the day without flaw and no emergencies I was out the door at 5 on the dot. Anxious to see what the next clue was I sped my way to the apartment complex, taped to my door was and envelope with the number 2 on it.

Fiddling with keys I finally got inside and was able to read the card.

2.Congrats! You're done with work, and tonight you are NOT studying! Take a shower, because as much as I love it when you smell like dogs where we are going it might not be so accepted. #3 is waiting for you in your closet ;) love - J

Somebody was feeling bossy today! But a shower did sound nice, and he was right I did smell like a dog today. In the shower I found new soaps, that he clearly had help with because they were from Sephora and I couldn’t imagine my boyfriend even going near that store let alone going inside. Dubbing myself squeaky clean I got out of the shower wrapping my body in a big, fluffy towel and my hair in a turbie twist I ventured into my closet. Envelope number 3 sat on a shelf next to a red dress I had never seen before.

3.Now that you're clean get dressed! (Don’t worry Jess picked this out an I haven't even seen it yet) I'll be over to pick you up at 6:30, I love you! #4 is in the kitchen.. - your boyfriend :)

This dress was gorgeous, I really needed to thank Jess for her expert fashion sense! Plugging my phone into the iDock I danced between my room and bathroom, doing my hair and makeup while trying to think of what #4 could be. Pairing the short skater style dress with black over the knee socks and booties, I was ready to go. Heading into the kitchen I saw the gift box on the island before I got to read the card. Sitting on top of the island was a giant Build-A-Bear workshops box. I could only imagine what was inside, and the torture he had gone through to get it. Opening the card with a smile on my face I began to read.

4. I know you're probably laughing, but you know what? I love your laugh! This little guy is for when your favorite hockey player is gone, I know he'll keep you company until I come back to you. At least for now.. ;) Ps. I promise to always come back to you. PPS. You should have seen Tyler and I in Build-A-Bear.. Talk about a hot mess. I love you so much babe :) See you soon, #5 is in my car…

Having not been to a Build-A-Bear in the past 15 years I was kind of excited to see what Jamie had gotten me, pulling the cardboard house open I reached inside and pulled out the cutest teddy bear ever. The brown bear was dressed in you guessed it a Dallas Stars jersey complete with a helmet and skates, he was too cute! Inside the box was a "birth certificate" Jamie had named the bear Aggie O'Reilly-Benn. The bear was ours, and I liked the way my last name looked next to Jamie's. Snapping a quick picture of the bear I tweeted it out, "Looks the Stars have a new player! Isn't he adorable!? #AggieBenn pic.twitter.com" I sat waiting at the island and promptly at 6:30 there was a knock at my door.

Straightening out my dress, I approached the door excited to see Jamie hoping the surprises would be over. Opening the door I groaned when I saw Tyler, "Please tell me you're not #5?" he grinned, "You look beautiful Kier, but yes I am #5. Come on there's 2 more surprises." Grabbing my purse from the table by the door I closed it, mumbling under my breath as I locked the door, "I hate surprises."

Tyler heard me as he ushered me down the hallway, "Come on grouch ass, be happy! I went to build a fucking bear for you." Oh how I wish I could have seen that, 2 grown hockey players in a children's store making me a bear! "Did you happen to take any pictures," I asked as I climbed into Tyler's Maserati. Starting the car Tyler handed me his phone, on the screen was Jamie and an older woman stuffing Aggie "One picture, Jamie was struggling with the whole stuffing process." God I loved that man, I smiled handing the phone back to Tyler, "So where's my note?" He handed me #5 and I opened it quickly.

That note gave away where we were headed, the Italian place from our first date on my birthday. Tyler pulled up and I looked over to him, "Is he in there?" he shrugged "All I know is that I'm supposed to drop you off Kier," I looked out the window, "Well, okay then. Thanks Ty." Opening the door I stepped out onto the blacktop straightening my dress as I walked into the restaurant, surprisingly empty for 2 days before Valentine's Day.

The hostess greeted me and I gave her a smile, "Are you Kieran O'Reilly?" she asked as I approached the desk. I nodded, "Right this way Miss," she spoke as she lead me to a familiar table in the back of the restaurant. To my dismay there was no Jamie Benn in the seat across from me. "Is he here?" I asked the young girl, she blushed "I'm not to say, sorry Miss O'Reilly." Of course. On the table laid another envelope, #6 this had to be the last one!

6. This is the last one Kier, and I know you're probably mad by now.. But it's all worth it I promise. So WATCH for me baby, I'll be there soon. -Jamie

Watch, this was the table he had given me my watch at this was our table. Looking around the restaurant I tapped my nails against the table, 5 minutes went by then 10 and there was still no sign of Jamie Benn. I pulled out my phone, *Babe where are you? People are staring at me..* No response, but it was read. *Jamie I swear to god..* read again but no reply, *Okay, seriously Benn I will leave this restaurant..* I huffed as I hit send and the message was received, and that’s when I felt the blindfold go around my eyes. Gasping as I heard the chair being pulled out across from me, "Umm, Jamie? I am seriously scared." Then I heard it, that deep chuckle I loved and I breathed a sigh of relief. "Jamie Randolph Benn, what in the hell?" I asked pointing to the blindfold on my eyes.

He laughed again, "You're cute when you're mad babe, it makes your accents stronger." Crossing my arms over my chest I smirked at the man across the table from me, "Not the time to be cute Jamie. Why can't I see you?!" My nose was then flooded by the smell of food, Jamie thanked the waiter and I could hear him coming around the table, whispering in my ear "Happy Valentine's Day, and early 3 months."

The blindfold was removed and I looked at the plate in front of me, the same food from our first date. As angry as I wanted to be at him I couldn’t fight the smile on my face, "Hi," I said quietly looking into his eyes. "Hi gorgeous, how was your day?" he asked with a wink. Shaking my head I picked up my fork, "Some goofball sent me on a wild goose chase and I wound up here, with you."

After finishing dinner Jamie reached in his pocket and pulled out another white envelope. Raising my eyebrows in a questioning fashion, "Uh no, you said 6 was the last one." Pushing it over to me he scratched his head, "I'm full of surprises today babe, just open it." I rolled my eyes as I tore the envelope open, having no clue what this one could even be.

7. "Half of 14 is 7, so this is where my goose chase ends because if I did 14 you would have probably killed me. :) You love animals and if you didn’t catch the hint in number 4 I said Aggie would keep you company "for now". I know you really want to get a dog, but right now isn't a good time so I found a breeder of Alaskan Klee Klai's that will be born April 20th ish.. And they will be ready to go home at the end of May when you get back from Ireland! I'll be in Canada by then so the dog is to keep you company until you either come visit me or I come back home..."

I couldn’t read the rest of it because I was too excited, letting out a girlish squeal "Oh my gosh!! Jamie a puppy!?!" He nodded with a huge grin on his face, "Yes ma'am, our puppy. A hundred some days from now we're getting a dog!" Jolting out of my chair I rushed to his side of the table, he rose and I wrapped my arms around him tightly, "I love you so much Jamie, thank you! Oh my gosh" I squealed as I squeezed him. "I knew this would make you smile, I've missed that." he said leaning in to kiss me quick, "You always make me smile," I said as I pulled away grabbing my purse and the note, giving him a wink I threw the bag over my shoulder "let's get out of here, I've got some presents for you at home."
