Prove Me Wrong.

Let's Just Pretend.

'Kieran's POV'

We had made it almost 2 long weeks without seeing or speaking to each other. Speaking for myself I wasn't necessarily avoiding Jamie I just wasn’t going to the games so that I could study, however I did notice that he wasn’t hanging around at Tyler's much anymore. And I knew Tyler wasn't intervening, he was continuing with the whole Switzerland neutral stance so I know he wasn’t telling Jamie that he couldn’t come over. Which lead me to believe that Jamie was indeed avoiding me, but could I really blame him? This situation was hard enough without having to see one another. So when we ran into each other, and I use that term loosely, at Starbucks both of us were unsure of how to act.

Keeping the situation on the DL meant that no one but our close friends knew what was going on, to the rest of the world including the media and Jamie's fans Jamie and I were still the happy couple. So when Jamie Benn and his "girlfriend" were in the same Starbucks and not talking there would have been a big red flag. I guess my first mistake in this adventure was wearing a Stars hoodie that's not available to the public with Jamie's name on the back, between that and my red hair I was fairly easy to recognize.

The barista didn’t even ask for my name. But conveniently when my drink was ready my cup read "Kieran :)" so the perky girl had to of known who I was. Any other time my name would have been completely butchered. I had been in the coffee shop for almost an hour before Jamie arrived, I was sitting in a booth near the back headphones in typing away on my iPad when his tall frame appeared in front of me.

Moving my eyes from the screen I looked up and saw him for the first time in almost 2 weeks, my mouth hung open and pulled the earbuds out of my ears. "Jamie? Ba-" I stopped myself from calling him babe. "Umm, What are you doing?" I asked as he slid into the other side of the booth.

'Jamie's POV'

Walking into the Starbucks I expected to have to sign a few autographs as usual but I wasn't expecting to be told by the barista that my girlfriend was around the corner. In fact it was still weird that people recognized Kieran, but then again her hair and height made her stick out a little more than most girls. I nearly choked when she told me after taking my order, her high pitched voice gesturing behind the wall "She's over there by the way," My face must have been confused because she continued, "Kieran, I assume you're meeting her?"

I nodded even though I wasn’t, "Yeah, uh thanks." I said grabbing my drink, if I walked straight out the door she would know something was up and then I'm the whole world would know. And that could not happen, no one else needed to know. So I swallowed my pride and walked over to where Kieran was supposed to be. She was in her own little world, hair in a bun, glasses on her nose, she was even wearing my sweatshirt well it was her size but it was just supposed to be for team members, God I missed her. Standing in front of her she noticed the shadow of my body and looked up, her face was shocked when she realized who I was. I sat down as to not cause a distraction in the establishment as she questioned what I was doing.

"Before you start yelling, think about where we are." I stated coolly, taking a drink of my coffee, "Okay, so what are you doing?" she asked again, her voice low and calm. "Well I came for coffee, but the barista said you were over here and well it would look weird if I just left and didn’t say anything." I watched as she pulled her bottom lip between her white teeth, she knew that drove me nuts, "Good thinking," I pulled my phone out as she went back to her iPad, "Yeah, sometimes I'm not an idiot.." That made her smile just a little, I had really missed that smile.
There wasn’t any talking which I'm sure looked funny but there was no way I was bothering Kieran while she crammed, after all that’s why we're in this mess.

So when she shut her iPad and looked over to me I was confused, "Done?" I asked as she swirled the green straw around in her tea, "For now. My brain hurts," Mine would hurt too if it were that full of information, she was stretching herself too thin and I was afraid that she was going to explode. "Take a break," she looked me in the eyes "With me." She cocked her head to the side, "Jame, we-" "Come on, let's just go for a walk. You don’t even have to talk to me." I took the fact that she was putting her things into her backpack as an agreement.

Leaving the coffee shop the fresh air hit us like a brick wall, Kieran took a deep breath soaking it all in. I knew she wasn’t seeing much of the outside world these days, "Let's go to the park," I said and she didn’t argue so we set off. No words, no touching, just the two of us side by side walking through the streets. I had to really fight the urge to not grab her hand, and I think she was doing the same when our hands touched as the swung next to our bodies we both stepped away. Reaching the park Kieran pulled off her backpack and leaned against the fence with her back, looking out to the city. I stood next to her hands in my pockets, watching as the people bustled around us one couple caught my attention as they threw a tennis ball back and forth to their dog. The dog, our dog, was it still our dog? Hell the dog hadn't even been born yet and here I am talking about who gets custody of it.

Kieran must have been watching the same dog when she spoke I was surprised, "Do you want a boy dog? I mean girls are a lot more work." She asked. Tell me about it, you're really putting me through the ringer right now I thought before answering her. I shrugged, "I paid for a boy, if that's okay with you.." She looked down at her feet, "Yeah, umm it's fine.. I mean it's not really my dog." That was it, she was thinking we weren't going to be able to fix this. Pulling my hand out of my pocket I reached for her hand and she didn’t pull away, she looked up from the concrete, "He's our dog Kieran, please don’t give up on us."

She closed her blue eyes tightly, and I could see a few tears forming on the sides, she pulled her hand from mine and swiped her thumbs under her eyes. "I'm not giving up Jamie, I'm just running out of fight." She reached down and grabbed her backpack, swinging it onto her shoulders, "I'll see you in a week." Then she was gone. Damn was she was getting good at leaving me, she was almost too good at it.
