Long Way Home

“Two weeks Jamie and then we’ll be back together, then I’ll come home” I said while sitting on the cool tiles of our bathroom. Jamie was sitting in front of me with his back against the wall and his hand holding an ice pack to his forehead.
“I know” Jamie said with a wince while I cleaned the cut above his eye. He had gotten into a fight during the game and thought the medical team looked at him I always liked to have a second glance, more for my well being then Jamie’s.
Its odd to say but some of my favorite memories with Jamie were spent in the bathroom at our house. He liked to fight, that was no secret and whenever he came back from a fight I always played nurse and helped patch him up.
“You couldn’t help yourself,” I laughed. Jamie was sitting on the on the floor with his back against the wall and I was sitting on his legs applying some peroxide to his cut.
“I know you like a tough guy” he said with a little smirk.
“Well tough guy you’re all patched up” I said while throwing away the used gauze.
“Not yet” he answered as he wrapped his arms around me “you have to kiss my booboo,” he said with a pout. I laughed because I should have known this was coming. Jamie thought he was a bug tough guy but he’s really just a huge softie.
“Where does it hurt my love?” I asked and he pointed to his left temple and I would give it a light kiss. Then he would move to his right temple, his nose, his right and left cheek and finally his soft lips would be the last to get a kiss.
“All better now” he would say with a grin.
“I’ll get my hands on some tickets for the Montreal game” Jamie said with a smile “but you have to promise to wear your Benn jersey” Jamie added with grin.
“Can I wear a habs hat?” I asked with a laugh, we always had this same argument.
“No” Jamie answered and leaned forward for a kiss.
“I’m just going to wear something under my jersey,” I said before kissing him.
“I know” he answered while his lips were still on mine.
Holly POV
I sat next to Sara on the plane without saying a word. She had been quiet all morning and I got the feeling that she was mad at me. Were we about an hour outside of Montreal when she finally decided to break the silence.
“Are you nervous about seeing your family?” she asked.
“I’m hoping I don’t run into any actually” I answered truthfully. A large part of my family cut ties from me when I decided to marry Jamie. They thought we were too young and that I was making a huge mistake, we were young but it was not a mistake. The only mistake that was made was all the things they said to both of us.
“You really think that’ll be possible?” she said with a raised eyebrow. I knew it wasn’t but I could only hope.
“Probably not” I answered as I looked out the window. It’s been a while since I came home.
Sara POV
The feeling I got when getting off the plane was not something I could describe. I was happy to be back in familiar ground but at the same time I left in such a hurry I don’t know how bad the mess I left behind is. I left my studio without much warning, actually im not sure if anyone kept it running. I could tell that Holly felt weird being back too, she had a mess she left behind when she left as well.
“Lets get this over with” I said grabbing my luggage off the belt and walking towards the exit.
“Oh I miss the snow sometimes” Holly said once we were outside.
“No you don’t,” I laughed as we walked towards a waiting cab. The ride back to my apartment was quiet, the cab driver’s music playing softly in the background. When we got to my apartment and I saw a piece of paper on my door by heart dropped. I took it quickly before Holly had the chance to look at it. Thank god it wasn’t an eviction notice but my landlord wanted to talk to me. I opened the door to my apartment and let Holly walk in first.
“Wow” were the only words to come out of her mouth as she surveyed the scnene in front of her. When I called her and she booked my flight to Dallas I threw some stuff in a bag and just left. There were clothes everywhere and furniture flipped over from my freak-out.
“I have to go find my landlord” I said quietly, leaving Holly to look at my mess. My landlord Jean was a nice quiet guy, lived alone with his cats. I found him right as he was walking into his apartment.
“Hey Jean” I said shyly.
“Sara you’re alive, the whole building was worried about you” he smiled while pulling me into a side hug.

“Yeah sorry I left without saying anything. I had a small family emergency and had to leave,” I said, giving the best excuse I could.
“Oh sorry to hear that. Look I just wanted to talk to you because you’re two months behind on your rent.” He said while scratching the back of his head. I hadn’t realized I had fallen behind.
“Oh I’m sorry Jean, I’ll have it for you within the next week I’m really sorry” i answered.
“Okay perfect. I’m happy to see you’re okay” he smiled before heading into his apartment.
When I got back to my apartment I found that Holly had already picked up most of the clothes and stuff I had thrown around and was flipping my couch back over when I walked in.
“So what did he say?” she asked when I walked in.
“Just a little behind on my rent” I almost whispered, I didn’t really want to tell her.
“How behind Sara?” she asked in her mother voice, her eyes narrowing.
“Like 2 months” She let out a sigh but didn’t continue on the subject.
“Take those bills on your desk and start sorting them.” She said pointing to the pack of mail sitting on my desk. I had only been in Dallas for about three weeks but I had let my mail pile up before leaving. I just got home and I already wanted to leave, it was going to be a rough couple of days.
