Holly POV

Getting Sara’s place back into order took a lot more than I thought it would. She crashed out on her bed about an hour ago and left me sitting at her kitchen table. As I looked around the apartment I couldn’t help but realize how upset she must have been before leaving. I had her bills laid out on the table in front of me and it seemed like every envelope I opened just made things worse and worse. I was about to go to sleep when I heard my phone ring.
How’s everything going? How’s Sara – Tyler
We’re good, she’s alright. I have a lot to sort out here before I can leave. – Holly
Let me know if you need my help... If she needs me – Tyler
Will do. How’s Jamie? – Holly
He’s sleeping on my couch. Didn’t want to go home to an empty house – Tyler

I put my phone back in my purse and went over to Sara’s bed. It felt like the sleepovers we had as kids when I crawled in next to her though usually I feel asleep before her. So much had changed since we were young; I just wondered if we had changed too much?

Sara POV

“I don’t even know if it’s still open” I said quietly as we turned the corner to the street where my studio was.
“Won’t know till we go” Holly answered while pulling her jacket tighter around her body.
“Hey Mrs. Sara you’re back” I heard a little voice giggle behind me. I turned to see one of my students Daisy dressed in her leotard and tutu.
“Hi Daisy, where you going?” I asked somewhat in shock.
“To class silly, Mrs. Amanda has been teaching but it’s not the same without you” she said taking my hand and pulling me towards the studio. I walked in to see everything running smoothly. My eyes immediately started to water, I couldn’t believe my staff kept everything alive after I just left without telling them.
“I gotta go talk to my girls” I told Holly with a sniffle before going into the staff room. Most of the girls were there except for Amanda who was prepping for her class.
“Hi guys,” I said shyly. I got a response of a bunch of “oh my god, where were you? Are you okays? And we missed you.”
“Umm well you guys know I had a bit of a problem with my injury right? Well the doctor said I was never going to be able to dance again, even with all the therapy I was doing. I kind of freaked out and left. I’m so sorry to have left you guys with everything” I said while tears were falling down my face.
“We figured that’s what happened when Amanda answered the phone and it was your doctor’s office. We put the pieces together when you weren’t answering your phone or your door” one of the girls said.
“I just wanted to thank you guys for keeping everything running,” I said not being able to control myself “it really shows how much you guys care”.
I stayed with them for a while and we made plans to go out together that night.
"Looks like you have so good friends here" Holly said with a smile as we walked out of the studio. The girls had been taking care of the financials and if that was the case I should have enough to cover rent and the more urgent bills. I left thinking my life was going to hell but it was turning out to be better than I thought.
"I do" I said with a smile.
We spend the day walking around downtown just like when we were younger. Everything was going well until we ran into one of Holly's cousins.
"Hi" the cousin said with fake enthusiasm.
"Hi Kristy" Holly answered.
"So how's everything with the husband?" She asked and the disgust in her voice was obvious.
"Really well thanks" Holly said and I could see she was biting her tongue.
"He didn't leave you yet?" The cousin laughed and if Holly wasn't holding my arm I would have jumped on her.
"No Kristy, only your boyfriends do that" Holly said with a sweet smile. I was in shock. She never spoke to anyone like that, it just wasn't her character. Kristy wasn't expecting t either because her mouth was wide open and her eyes showed the shock she was feeling. Holly didn't give her the time to answer before she turned around and walked off, taking me with her.
"Woah that's a new side of Holly" I said once we were walking normally again.
"Felt good. I'm just tired of being scared to come home because of some of them. I miss some of my family but I'm always scared to come home. I'm just done with all that."
Holly said confidently. I nodded, understanding how important family was to Holly.
"I need a drink" she said with a sigh.
"Yeah we should go home and start getting ready to go out" I laughed pulling Holly as we walked back to my apartment.

Holly POV

It felt good to go out with the girls and have a good time. I haven’t been out with just the girls in a while because back home I’m usually with the guys. Sure the wives and girlfriends of players go out once and a while but most of us want to spend time with our significant others when we can.
It was about 1 am when I got a text from Jamie.
Hey how are you? – Jamie
Good, you baby? – Holly
Good, you guys on your way home? – Jamie
No, were going to an old friend’s resto to grab a bite. – Holly
Ok – Jamie
I could tell he was annoyed about something but I was having fun so I didn’t push it.
The night went on and I knew it was getting late. Jamie sent a text every once in a while and I knew he was tired and probably nervous about me being out so late but he was starting to get annoying. I know he’s doing it because he cares but I’m old enough to take care of myself. It was 3 am when Jamie finally had enough and decided to call me.
"Why aren't you home yet?" Jamie's voice carried over the phone and I could imagine him sitting at the kitchen counter punching the bridge of his nose in frustration.
"I'm out with friends Jamie. Just go to sleep and I'll text you when I get home." You said looking at your friends who were walking a couple steps in front of you.
"You know I won't be able to sleep till I know you're at home. Why can't you just tell me what time you're going to be home?" Jamie answered growing impatient.
"Jamie honestly I'm in Montreal right now and you're in Dallas. I don't understand why we're having this argument. I'm an adult and can go home when I want." I answered with a bit more bite than you expected.
"Holly you know I have an early practice tomorrow morning and you know I worry about you. Please just try and make it an early night,” Jamie pleaded.
I don't know if it was the alcohol running in my veins or the rush of being home but my next response was not one I would be proud of later.
"You never make it an early night for me Jamie. I'll call you when I call you" I said and hung up. I closed my phone and put it at the bottom of my bag. I was out to have fun, not to argue with Jamie.
"Everything okay?" Sara asked. I hadn't even noticed that she had slowed down to meet up with me.
"Yeah Jamie is just being a little stuffy" I said with a weak smile.
Before she had the time to answer her phone started ringing.
"It's Tyler,” she said showing me the display.
"Answer it,” I told her knowing it was probably Jamie reaching out. She pressed the speaker button before answering.
“Hey Ty” she answered.
“Hey umm are you with Holly?” Ty asked and I could picture him standing with Jamie staring at him while he spoke.
“Yeah she's right next to me" Sara answered.
“Can you tell her to answer her phone please” Tyler said “I’d really like to go back to sleep but Jamie said he’s not leaving my room till she answers” he added.
“Tell Jamie I’ll talk to him in the morning” I answered and I heard Tyler repeat the message to Jamie.
“It is the morning” Jamie yelled in the background and I’m sure he’s running his hand through his hair.
“Goodnight boys” I said and closed Sara’s phone. She looked at me with her mouth open.
“Everything okay with you? You’re not usually like this Holly” she said in reference to my snapping more than once today.
“I’m fine” I mumbled and walked forward to meet up with the girls.
We ended up getting home at around 5 am and when I took my phone out of my bag there weren’t any messages from after the phone call. I knew Jamie must be mad but I had a good night and he wasn’t going to ruin that.
Home – Holly
I waited for an answer but he was probably sleeping at this point. I put my phone on the table and went to bed. Tomorrow, well later today was going to suck.
