Long Way Home

Jamie P.O.V

“If you don’t drive faster I’m going to end up giving birth in this car” Holly yelled at me from the passenger seat.
“Yeah if I go any faster we’re going to get into an accident,” I answered as I checked my blind spot to change lanes. I heard her whimper again as another contraction rolled through her body, her grasp on my leg tightened as he nails dug into my skin. I pushed down on the pedal trying to get us to the hospital as fast as possible.
Once I parked my car and grabbed the bags I followed Holly who was heading straight for the emergency room doors.
“Ready?” I asked as I caught up to her to open the door.
“I’m ready for this baby to come out of my body,” she said as she wobbled in.
The doctors checked her in and got her comfortable in her bed, she would still have to wait a couple hours before having to push. I thought she might actually fall asleep for a little until I heard voices coming down the hall. I was about to get up and tell them to shut up but before I could get to the door half of my teammates walked in.
“Did we miss it?” Ty spoke first.
“Where’s my little man...or woman” Jordie spoke up next.
“Guys shh Holly’s sleeping,” I said trying to push them out of the room.
“Jamie it’s okay, I won’t be able to fall asleep” Holly said turning and sitting up in bed “come on in guys” she said waving them forward. Only a couple minutes later Holly had about 9 large hockey players spread around her room. They had all come in with different gifts from blankets to toys to Jordie who had bought a little jersey. Each guy seemed to cringe a little every time Holly let out a little gasp in pain.
“Woah seems like you have a lot of supporters” Holly’s doctor said when he walked into the room to check on Holly. Most of the guys dismissed themselves from the room before the doctor moved Holly’s gown to check if she was ready to put. Jordie and Tyler stayed behind and look awkwardly in the other direction.
“We’re gonna get ready to push” the doctor said “so unless you’re staying I suggest you go wait in the waiting room.
“Yeah I’m out, ill be in the waiting room so just holler if you need something” Tyler said quickly and left the room.
“Need me?” Jordie asked.
“We’ll be okay” I smiled.
“Alright” he said with a smile and headed for the door “hey next time I’ll see you guys I’ll be an uncle” he said with a grin as he stopped at the door.
“Go call the parents” I said as he walked out with the biggest grin on his face.

Holly POV

“5 hours and 46 minutes of pushing. If anyone else in the world put me through that kind of pain I would never be able to love them, and yet there is no one in the entire world I could ever love as much as I love you J” I mumbled half asleep. I was exhausted and I knew I needed sleep but I didn’t want to be away from her, not even when she was sleeping.
“Babe come to bed,” Jamie said as I felt his arms wrap around my waist. Jamie and me had brought home our beautiful little girl only two weeks ago and we already fell into this comfortable rhythm. I was beyond happy; there were no complications at all in the birth, which I think saved Jamie from having a heart attack.
“Five more minutes” I said as I leaned my head against Jamie’s chest.
“Just bring her to bed with us,” Jamie said while releasing me and moving around me to scoop up our little girl into his arms. I followed him as he walked back into our bedroom and climbed up into the bed putting our little girl on the middle of the bed and then moving to curl around her protectively.
“You guys are so cute together” I whispered as I crawled onto my side of the bed so me and Jamie made a little barrier around her.
“Jordie and Ty and some of the guys want you to pass by practice tomorrow with ” Jamie whispered and I could se his eyes starting to close.
“Okay baby” I said running my hands through his hair. I knew he didn’t hear it because he was already thousands of miles away in some dreamland.
I looked at Jamie for what seemed like forever. I could see the resemblance between him and our little girl. I felt a calm fall over me. We were home, I was home, and damn was it a long way home.
